Xone: K2 Thread
Xone: K2 Thread Posted on: 30.09.2011 by Romelia Stankard Wow this looks promissinghttp://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Produc...neK2&SubCatId= So if you link two together with the ethernet cable through USB, will it 'merge' the soundcard so you have a 4 channel soundcard? If it does then you could bring two to a gig, hook them together with ethernet and not need another audio interface and have a 4 channel soundcard. It kind of sucks they put one 1/8" on the front instead of having both outputs in the back. It makes it a little awkward if you wanted to run both outputs to separate channels on the mixer, now you have to run a cable to the front. Also remember you have the option to run each channel in traktor mono so you could use one of them as a 4 channel soundcard with a few adapters (like you would with an audio 2 or 4). Plus a lot of systems are mono anyway. I really like the idea of having one or two of these with a DB2 or DB4 for a home setup then just take them to your gig with a laptop and you have an audio interface to use already in your controller with the house mixer. I love the X1s but I might have to give them up for these, i would love to get my hands on one. | |
May Artman 04.10.2011 | Definitely noticed what you guys are saying about the human side of A&H. Just from the trade show vids the guys explaining stuff seem to have genuine passion and belief that they're delivering a quality product (really noticed this with last year's db4 unveiling videos), while many other companies' marketing is just a guy reading off the same feature list you find on the website. Combining that with my A&H fanboyism gets the hype rolling pretty easily. |
Emanuel Kepics 04.10.2011 | K2 looks like a cool little unit. Pleased to hear it's built well too. I'll have one without batting an eyelid. |

The DB2 and K2 were just that good... and it always helps that on the A&H stand you meet the actual people who made the stuff they're selling who can answer your questions honestly and accurately - no salesman bull. |

Lisa Lochotzki 03.10.2011 | The guy in the video talked about aggragate, but probably for more than 2 unit... who knows?!? The preliminary brochure do not says much... let's hope for an intelligent driver... |
Leeanna Ayla 03.10.2011 | I didn't believe the audio from one K2 would be able to pass over Xlink. I wonder though how things work if you use two USB ports? |
Asuncion Vongunten 03.10.2011 | Just for the record, the ones on display at BPM this weekend did not have a centre (12 o'clock) click on the pots. Although I guess they are prototypes and could change before the drop... especially if everyone badgers A&H. Also, if it helps anyone, the guys on the stand said you can power two of these off of one usb cable, joining the two together via the X-Link cable and all that differs is that on the second unit is the audio interface shuts down. Must say that in the metal these units looked even better than in the pics - really solid metal and a decent size with good space between all the controls. Strange to say that of all the stuff at BPM, the two new A&H products may not have been the cheapest but stood out noticeably as the best value for money things I saw. |

Danae Dumler 03.10.2011 | At this price I'm sure they will be around at guitar centers. I'll be keeping my X1 but definitely buying one of these. The two together is the perfect mobile rig for internal mixing, mebelieves. I also plan to have a mapping for home use (where I mix externally) and a mapping for internal mixing that will use the K2 as a basic 4channel mixer. Probably have one layer where I duplicate some of the midifighter functions on the bottom button grid including effects and cuepoint juggling. This thing is months from being released but I already can't comprehend how I have gone through life without one. |
Romelia Stankard 03.10.2011 | I don't see it affecting sales or value of the X1s much at all, as with most allen & heath stuff I believe it is more of a select enthusiast type dj market and most people are still going to want stuff from NI or Pioneer and places like guitar center won't stock the xones. |

Kiyoko Wellisch 03.10.2011 | He did say ableton! And yeah, I don't see why you couldn't use the internal soundcard with that setup. |
Nedra Fresneda 03.10.2011 | My mapping would depend if i get one or end up grabbing a pair for a tight booth setup. I'd like to have both external and internal mixer versions for more flexibility and making the map adapt better for other people (like my X1 one does). Fun times ahead indeed. A friend already offered to buy my X1 the day before this got announced (at a price a tad higher than i got it ) so looks like things are going in the right direction. Will set up the iPad meanwhile to replace the X1. |

Jillian Wehrkamp 03.10.2011 | Wow, this must be the best news for me in 2011 !! Proof: Just got a member of this community to join the discussion I just switched from Traktor 2 to Ableton Live (which I was using before for producing only) and compared all availible, sense making units during the last three days (APC40, Launchpad, Korg nano series, Akai LPD8/LPK25/MPK mini). Ordered APC40 + Launchpad for testing this weekend with 30days money back. A few hours ago I found out about the Xone:K2 and couldn't believe my eyes. I fell in love with Xone faders and potis a while ago so this is amazing. Just one idea that came to my mind: This would really cover everything, not less and not more. Am I missing something? And now I don't even have to sell Traktor because there's still everything in control. The questions that came up to me so far: - Would I still need an Interface like NI Audio 2 or can I really use the inbuilt soundcard of one K2 after linking up to the other one and my PC via USB? The master volume control is gone in this case (would create an individual workaround in launchpad for this) but practially possible? - How do the buttons feel like, for those who already had the chance? I suppose they are smooth and made of silicone. Guess I will now stick with launchpad standalone, learning and understanding all function at first until these sweeties are availible in stores. Would be nice to read some comments of convinced Ableton Live users, what are your thoughts about possible setups? |
Lisa Lochotzki 03.10.2011 | The more I know of this little baby, the more I'm in love, and now, knowing you can also use it to link 2 computer and transfer MIDI clock... it add some icing on the cake. |

Kalyn Billodeau 03.10.2011 | Im gonna use the bottom part similar to the X1's mapping. I have no clue what to use the faders and knobs for though, as I dont use the Traktor effects (only the effects build-in to my DB4). |

Kiyoko Wellisch 02.10.2011 | Power will flow from the laptop into the first K2 and then into the second one via the xlink. At least that's what I've read. |
Romelia Stankard 02.10.2011 | Karlos you say USB powered, does that mean there is no power transferred over xlink and it will still have to get some power over USB from a hub or something? Because that would totally suck. I remember with the 1Ds if you wanted to use MIDI cables you still had to power them through an AC USB adapter and it was really, really annoying. It would be a huge shame if they couldn't share power. What about aggregating the soundcard through xlink? |
