Wow this looks promissing

http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Produc...neK2&SubCatId=

So if you link two together with the ethernet cable through USB, will it 'merge' the soundcard so you have a 4 channel soundcard?

If it does then you could bring two to a gig, hook them together with ethernet and not need another audio interface and have a 4 channel soundcard. It kind of sucks they put one 1/8" on the front instead of having both outputs in the back. It makes it a little awkward if you wanted to run both outputs to separate channels on the mixer, now you have to run a cable to the front. Also remember you have the option to run each channel in traktor mono so you could use one of them as a 4 channel soundcard with a few adapters (like you would with an audio 2 or 4). Plus a lot of systems are mono anyway.

I really like the idea of having one or two of these with a DB2 or DB4 for a home setup then just take them to your gig with a laptop and you have an audio interface to use already in your controller with the house mixer.

I love the X1s but I might have to give them up for these, i would love to get my hands on one.

Definitely noticed what you guys are saying about the human side of A&H. Just from the trade show vids the guys explaining stuff seem to have genuine passion and belief that they're delivering a quality product (really noticed this with last year's db4 unveiling videos), while many other companies' marketing is just a guy reading off the same feature list you find on the website. Combining that with my A&H fanboyism gets the hype rolling pretty easily.

K2 looks like a cool little unit. Pleased to hear it's built well too. I'll have one without batting an eyelid.

Not only the guys that made the products but the Product Specialist Mixarchitekt (Tim) who is a great DJ and has a passion for the products.
Talking to the developers is great but when you speak with Mixarchitekt he gives you the low-down from a DJ perspective and that is priceless.

Mixarchitek is also a member of the DJTechTools community

"ALLEN & HEATH KILLED IT AT BPM 2011.

Know what you mean, all four of us in the car I went up had no need for another midi controller or flash 4 channel mixer but we all went home fondling catalogues and believeing about what to sell on ebay!

Everyone knows im an NI fanboy... Its a given.
The NI stand was fine, the new S2 and Mikro are cool. All good stuff.

Im quite friendly with a few of the guys at A&H but i have zero affiliation with them so this is a totally unbiased view.

The guy in the video talked about aggragate, but probably for more than 2 unit... who knows?!?

The preliminary brochure do not says much... let's hope for an intelligent driver...

I didn't believe the audio from one K2 would be able to pass over Xlink. I wonder though how things work if you use two USB ports?

Also, if it helps anyone, the guys on the stand said you can power two of these off of one usb cable, joining the two together via the X-Link cable and all that differs is that on the second unit is the audio interface shuts down.
Must say that in the metal these units looked even better than in the pics - really solid metal and a decent size with good space between all the controls.

Yeah mainly in ableton concerning possibilities and my will to create a liveset with own content. But for small sessions this would perfectly work in Traktor aswell. Too bad it will still take 3 months until the K2s are availible, that's a lot of time if you are waiting on something.
I would almost cut one of my pinky fingers for getting them right now ^^

At this price I'm sure they will be around at guitar centers. I'll be keeping my X1 but definitely buying one of these. The two together is the perfect mobile rig for internal mixing, mebelieves. I also plan to have a mapping for home use (where I mix externally) and a mapping for internal mixing that will use the K2 as a basic 4channel mixer. Probably have one layer where I duplicate some of the midifighter functions on the bottom button grid including effects and cuepoint juggling.

This thing is months from being released but I already can't comprehend how I have gone through life without one.

I don't see it affecting sales or value of the X1s much at all, as with most allen & heath stuff I believe it is more of a select enthusiast type dj market and most people are still going to want stuff from NI or Pioneer and places like guitar center won't stock the xones.

lol... tho many people do sell their soul's ofc

they are kind of different but also kind of not. the X1 has 4 encoders and 4 pots? the K2 has 12 pots, 6 encoders and 4 faders i guess. so close but no cigar...

both have buttons by the pots/enc's, and a 4x4 grid (ish) of pads.

i can't see why i would go for the X1 over a K2 unless i really just hated faders or something...

the X1 is still a really nice bit of kit - and i will be interested to see what happens on the 2nd hand market with them once the K2 comes out. i may well pick up an X1 as well if i can get one cheap enough.

He did say ableton!

And yeah, I don't see why you couldn't use the internal soundcard with that setup.

My mapping would depend if i get one or end up grabbing a pair for a tight booth setup. I'd like to have both external and internal mixer versions for more flexibility and making the map adapt better for other people (like my X1 one does). Fun times ahead indeed.
A friend already offered to buy my X1 the day before this got announced (at a price a tad higher than i got it ) so looks like things are going in the right direction. Will set up the iPad meanwhile to replace the X1.

I just switched from Traktor 2 to Ableton Live (which I was using before for producing only) and compared all availible, sense making units during the last three days (APC40, Launchpad, Korg nano series, Akai LPD8/LPK25/MPK mini).
Ordered APC40 + Launchpad for testing this weekend with 30days money back.

A few hours ago I found out about the Xone:K2 and couldn't believe my eyes.
I fell in love with Xone faders and potis a while ago so this is amazing.
Just one idea that came to my mind:

This would really cover everything, not less and not more. Am I missing something?
And now I don't even have to sell Traktor because there's still everything in control.
The questions that came up to me so far:

- Would I still need an Interface like NI Audio 2 or can I really use the inbuilt soundcard of one K2 after linking up to the other one and my PC via USB? The master volume control is gone in this case (would create an individual workaround in launchpad for this) but practially possible?

- How do the buttons feel like, for those who already had the chance?
I suppose they are smooth and made of silicone.

Guess I will now stick with launchpad standalone, learning and understanding all function at first until these sweeties are availible in stores.
Would be nice to read some comments of convinced Ableton Live users, what are your thoughts about possible setups?

pretty sure i'm going to be boring and just use the top part as eq+levels+filters+kills for 4 decks

the 4x4 pad area should be fun tho

Power will flow from the laptop into the first K2 and then into the second one via the xlink. At least that's what I've read.
Romelia Stankard
02.10.2011
Karlos you say USB powered, does that mean there is no power transferred over xlink and it will still have to get some power over USB from a hub or something? Because that would totally suck.

I remember with the 1Ds if you wanted to use MIDI cables you still had to power them through an AC USB adapter and it was really, really annoying. It would be a huge shame if they couldn't share power.

What about aggregating the soundcard through xlink?

Yeah they were on some specially made MDF stands which wont be available. The case is quite a but wider than the K2 and looks a bit like a long egg box and zips up like the original X1 case. The case didnt seem to have room to fit the USB cable inside (hunch).

Also, be prepared for losing the headphone adapter because even if i take mine off the Senns for 10 minutes to use in the laptop i still end up looking for it for 20 mins *note to self, always put it in the Senns bag*.
