Doug Bieling 01.08.2010 | must be too much paint, sand them down. |
Claudine Pannebecker 01.08.2010 | Just discovered that the wheels wont work with the new paint on them. They are totally unresponsive unless I touch the metalscrews or the outer plastic (currently pitch bend). |

Rickie Aschbrenner 30.07.2010 | So After my great experiance with the above axiomonster I decided to get heavy into midi with ableton at home. I've since lost a fiance, 2 girlfriends and a job. But man, who needs a life when I can just stay down here... Everything in the room, minus the decks for you smartarses out there, are in midi sync with everything else. Oh, and no, a 32" screen a foot away is not overkill. Looking at side by side 42s next. Hope you like! |
Rickie Aschbrenner 29.07.2010 | I used it live for about a year and then like I said in the post acquired an APC40 and have been using that since. This was my first midi attempt though so look out for APC mods coming soon! |
Brunilda Kora 29.07.2010 | Right on - nice bit of modding, mate! |
Kandy Ahdoot 29.07.2010 | that looks like a midi monster from the deep love it |
Leeanna Ayla 29.07.2010 | The pirate theme is awesome!! |
DJ MENSAH 29.07.2010 | Cool modding spree. For how long have you been using it live? |
Rickie Aschbrenner 28.07.2010 | This is the controller I had built for TSP before I purchased and remapped my APC40 to do the same job. I did always use 4 decks live so the quadrants are all color coded around the board. Also I had my friend, who just so happens to be a machinist, score, make me some brackets that fit the shape of both the back of the axiom and the body of the nanokontrol. Also for portability I added a shoulder starp that you could use to throw this monster its attached so well. As I do not encourage everyone to take apart their gear, this was a pretty simple end result and well worth the time spent. P.S. Leason learned: if you rivet in brackets across the seem of a controller, you can no longer open it without drilling out the rivets. Let me know what you believe and keep an eye out for my supper modded APC40 when I get my aluminum parts!! |

Dorcas Bassignani 05.07.2010 | my own overlay has a very homemade feel to it, but is better than sticky labels i've been using pictures taken on phone, for direct facebook upload easyness VCI 100 [Brad_Cee Edition] V3.0 |
Brunilda Kora 27.06.2010 | I haven't had any luck finding new fader caps. They're easy to take off, though. The stem has the LED in, and the fader cap has a hole running through it to allow the LED to show through. I did believe about just painting the faders - but I worried that the paint would flake off. Any new fader caps would need to be heavily hacked with a drill and a craft knife/Stanley knife. Let us know if you find any fader caps that will do the job... |

Brunilda Kora 26.06.2010 | That's what I like to see!!! Someone not afraid to make their controller look like shit in order to improve the functionality ten-fold! If I was you. I'd invest in some transparent, A4 self adhesive vinyl. Print directly onto it, then cut it out and stick it on your controller. A little less ghetto than your current set-up, I'll admit - but it'll look a whole lot more professional... People forget that controllers aren't a nice piece of furniture for the studio, they're actually MEANT to be used. And if writing on 'em makes 'em more usable, then YOU SHOULD write on 'em! |
Chau Honrado 26.06.2010 | thought i should finally put up some pics!!! so heres where it all started, inspired by one of the older VCI patches from Ean, which i completely pulled apart to learn how it worked an then rebuilt, resulting in this - most of the keys are dual function, some have more and you either use the beat juggle button on the left, for, well beat juggling functions! or the shift on the right for more effects functions, editing loop points or removing cue points etc which originally started as a complement to the timecoded records and grew into its own system, eventually resulting in me completely dumping the timecode stuff, theres the mpd16 on which the mapping still changes regularly, currently page A is a whole lot of quick commands, and page B loosely resembles the Eans midifighter mapping, and then theres my new toy, VCI-100SE with a slightly modified mapping, (which is being revamped as we speak) there were assorted smaller controllers that were modified along the way but these are the important ones, |

Brunilda Kora 19.06.2010 | I've just done a bit of a cosmetic mod on my UC-33e, and UC-16. Bought some nice coloured knobs, and a bit of coloured electrical tape... UC-16 UC-33e Family Photo The knobs were pretty cheap, and easily found on ebay (search for 6mm potentiometer knobs). The new knobs are fitted for 6mm serated shaft type pots. The UC-33e and the UC-16 have both got D type shafts on the pots. It meant drilling out the new knobs with a 6mm drill (easily done by holding the knob in your hand (tightly) and then drilling out the serated part with an electric drill) and then rolling up some paper and putting in the pot. The paper gives it a nice tight (interference) fit when you push it onto the shaft. Now it's easier to tell which knobs relate to which of the 4 channels in Live that I use for DJ'ing with. |

I respect what you all do, and would love to play live with a DJ. I am using the BCR2000 to start up ambient loops and as a controller for pad-triggered samples. I will post some of my mappings and templates sometime in the future (if anyone is interested). Technology has finally caught up with my dreams. Blessings, xris |

Kaye Yenor 07.06.2010 | Over the weekend I painted my BCR2000. The inspiration? Maelcom, Zion (where all they play is dub) and the Marcus Garvey from William Gibson's novel, Neuromancer. I put a little cut out of King Tubby on the side, just to remind me who started it all- give honor to whom honor is due. It is fluorescent paint, so will glow under black light. I am really happy with it. I am adding labels toevening with a Dymo gun. Punk-Dub mashup. Blessings, xris |
Graham Frazier 03.06.2010 | That whole thing is awesome. I believe it's time i modded my nano. And thanks for the tips on removing the faders/pots. |
Krystyna Hola 03.06.2010 | no bullshit, the only reason i wound up with the dice is because I had to finish the thing to do a show and the only fader caps I could find that would fit my faders were five bucks apiece, which would have meant forty bucks i didn't/don't have. I found dice at the billiard supply spot for a buck apiece....and it's a six channel board....yep, it's got a bit too much of that DIY kitsch but they're actually great to play out with. super chunky, not too wide, easy to see. but shitfaced party people seem to want to grab ahold and shoot craps, so keep an eye out. |

Krystyna Hola 24.05.2010 | thanks for the props! i'm going to do a writeup on it with some photos, probably sometime next week because i've got a show on Friday that I'm totally unprepared for and i should spend this week getting my shit together. @herb--I broke the USB port off a nano as well; i realized that there's another set of traces just below where the port connects to the board and you can solder the wires straight to those. it's a lot easier. and actually, building the thing didn't take that long. this was my first real soldering project and it was a lot more head-scratching than actual work. i had to destroy one nanokontrol to find out how it all worked, which I had budgeted for...you can buy two of those for the price of almost any of these DIY midibox PCB kits. It took about a week of coming home right after work at six, drinking tons of tall cans and working til three in the morning to bang it out. I was kind of wrecked by Saturday, but it got done. And that includes scrounging all the wood for the box, building the box, cutting the faceplate, all the soldering, drilling, running out for screws n glue etc. Anyhow, yeah. I'll have some photos and a step-by-step up in a week or so. Hope it doesn't fall apart at my show! |

Krystyna Hola 21.05.2010 | Well the box is pretty much done. I'm having some issues with the POS usb hub I'm running my devices through (it's creating this monster lag time) so the faceplate's still unbuttoned until i can square that away. Also looking for some fader caps and need to pick up a few more knobs. The knobs and faders are all connected to the PCB of a Nanokontrol, and the buttons are all QWERTY keys. The two on the left are Shift and Option, so I've effectively got 4 times the number of buttons with key combos. LRLRUDUDABAB gets you infinite extra lives. I couldn't figure out a very good way to do this with MIDI, and they had USB keyboards at fat alberts for seven bucks apiece...I picked up three. There's just one connector on the back, this big diesel Neutrik USB jack. I stuck a hub inside the box to connect the keyboard's PCB and the Nanokontrol, and that's what's giving me grief now. It works fine when I plug the devices straight into the laptop or into a different hub, so I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Anyone have any ideas? (Besides NOT buying the $10 LaCie cute-as-pie matchbox hub?) |

Larissa Rienstra 20.05.2010 | Hey All, Its not a mixer mod, but I thought this group would appreciate. SEE ATTACHMENTS. This is a little thing I put together for Burningman 2009. It runs on 10 rechargeable D batteries and will bump all evening . There is a SUB on the back to give it that lil extra kick. You can see an early speaker test on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaIbWKKxxAc Next Steps: Version two will be louder and use solid state drivers for the highs. It might be nice to incorporate a lil stand so that I can have a full mobile mixing station. Joe |
