The NI Traktor X1 MK2 Thread

With news of the new NI Z1 I was looking at online retailers and came across this at one of them

http://www.pssl.com/Computer-DJ/Nati...-DJ-Controller

Looks good.

I have not seen it announced anywhere so it looks like someone jumped the gun.

Press SYNC and touch the LOOP encoder and it displays the Tempo in the display. Turning the encoder (with sync pressed) then changes the Tempo.

Sounds a bit fiddly but its actually not.
So normally manual beat matching requires two functions - pitch adjust to change speed, and pitch bend to keep them in phase. How much work is it to do this quickly on the X1 Mk2? How hard/easy is it with the encoder to make precise small increments, and conversely can you also make big changes easily, or is it one or the other?

Yep it sends midi when touching it.

So the encoder is ACTUALLY touch sensitive!!! i thought that was an error in the review!

There are other more basic functions such as SNAP on/off with SHIFT+LEFT LOAD button. QUANT same but with RIGHT LOAD.

FLUX button can be assigned in prefs:
Primary : Flux Mode or Hot Cues 5-8 or Abs/Rel
Secondary: Tap Tempo or Flux Mode or Hot Cues 5-8

Think mapping the touch strip to pitch bend is doable and would work well enough? Phase change is kind if useless if you're mixing into someone else leaving the decks. Unless I'm misunderstanding this feature and it already works as pitch bend?

The LED readout displays the BPM which is very cool indeed.

Also, some of the buttons have secondary functions and options for that secondary function.
Could you elaborate a bit on those other button combos and secondary functions? I mean, the absence of pitch adjust was my main gripe when there were only those leaked pictures available. The NI website only hints at those secondary/hidden functions (e.g. how is the switch from 4 hotcue buttons to 8 hotcue buttons done?) and if you try to download the manual you still get the old one.

I'm quite tempted now :>

I dunno. DJ gear is almost like a car. The difference between used and new gear is massive. I find it hard to justify buying anything at new prices now.

I do wanna try it out though..

Couldn't any controller with knobs and buttons do the same thing for ableton in his case?

And you missed that "pot" is also something you smoke as well as a prefix to a type of noodle...

Not totally sure how you missed that but, because you did, you are personally voided from handing out or removing seewhatididthere points.

Jokes on u

Seriously tempted to pick one of these up when they're out, sell my MC6000 and pick up a proper mixer (probably x1600). Only ever use 2 decks with Traktor, and this way I could use filters/effects with my SC2900's!!

I love the idea of the touchstrip, I am hoping for a jog wheel type controller, but can see NI never coming to the table after the release of the X1MK2, one can hope though right?

I believe I would've made a new X1 with two touch strips stacked like the decks horizontally and updated the X1s with new colours for the LEDs and stacked the FX horizontally as well, might do some photoshopping to illustrate what I mean

If anyone is interested, the old X1 is on sale at Musicstore for 169€ with bag!

So basically you can have full 4 deck control with two x1's and also have 2 bags for having them at mixer height for 340€ which is awesome

Ah ok, yeah that should work

I believe I may sell my PL-1 and get one of these badboys. I like having two deck control on one slimline controller... like the og X1 basically

Adjusting tempo using strip wouldn't allow precise changes but that is definitely something mappable.

I shall wait for mdc to make a map lol.

I'm looking for something to bolster my deck control since DJing with just one Contour is still kinda weird to me.

The Blog article mentions a few "missing" functions.
There are quite a few old X1 functions that are now 'hidden'. Basically they involve button combos.

According to newest DJTT blog article the touch strip is remappable

Ditto. The touchstrip having discreet sections with LED feedback is a game changer for me. At the moment I'm using the cuepoint pads for gater/beatmasher FX on my contours, but if the X1's touchstrip is remappable, I can see it taking the place of one of my Contours. Either that, or adding it alongside the 2 Contours in conjunction with my F1, then get a Z1 for the mixer.
