Wow this looks promissing

http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Produc...neK2&SubCatId=

So if you link two together with the ethernet cable through USB, will it 'merge' the soundcard so you have a 4 channel soundcard?

If it does then you could bring two to a gig, hook them together with ethernet and not need another audio interface and have a 4 channel soundcard. It kind of sucks they put one 1/8" on the front instead of having both outputs in the back. It makes it a little awkward if you wanted to run both outputs to separate channels on the mixer, now you have to run a cable to the front. Also remember you have the option to run each channel in traktor mono so you could use one of them as a 4 channel soundcard with a few adapters (like you would with an audio 2 or 4). Plus a lot of systems are mono anyway.

I really like the idea of having one or two of these with a DB2 or DB4 for a home setup then just take them to your gig with a laptop and you have an audio interface to use already in your controller with the house mixer.

I love the X1s but I might have to give them up for these, i would love to get my hands on one.

That's annoying. The knobs are not a huge deal...but I am not a huge fan of the studio style faders...

anyone have a good x1 emulator mapping/overlay?

the one that comes on the CD seems to be wrong..

quick review:
spent about an hour with it. i bought it with the hopes of taking it to gigs by itself and plugging into the mixer and still being able to do a set since i don't really use jogwheels except for skimming around tracks.

some thoughts-

-the stock x1 mapping it comes with seems to be wrong with some of the labelings on the overlay provided in the CD.

-using the built in soundcard + midi uses ALOT more cpu than my s4. i have very very minimal popping issues with the s4 but almost nonstop here. my cpu load in traktor is constantly in the red. i dont have the fastest laptop, but like i said it can run the s4 just fine. haven't tried it with an external mixer yet, but im hoping it will be alot smoother.

-having to map with traktor suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. NIs fault, not a&h though.

-there is nothing nice about this case....but at least its free.

-i need to figure out how to do the headphone mix split cueing/volume soon as well...

-this is definitely a higher learning curve than the s4...

all in all, i believe i can eventually get it to where i need it to be with some time. anyone else get theirs yet?

I'm believeing a K2 paired up with a Behringer LC-1, seems like the perfect 4 deck Live setup. It pretty much doesn't get more portable than that!

In fact seeing all of these new modular controllers is really making me reconsider heading back into Live, or completely condensing my setup, as having large amounts of gear is completely unnecessary for a basement dj such as myself.

Don't know about everyone else, but I am getting both...for me, they serve different purposes. I already have an X1 that handles my basic 2-deck workflow. I don't use Traktor's sample decks as I find them cumbersome...the Remix decks, on the other hand, look like they might be more useful. So, for me, the F1 will be strictly for remix decks...while the K2 will serve as a sort of hub for traktor handling internal mixing, eqs, filters, fx assign etc.

Mostly I will work with the K2 and an X1, and periodically work in the F1.

If they do that it would only harm themselves and product partners. If you suddenly can't use your setup with X program you change the software side, simple.

It just goes against the flag they have been holding for so many years now.

the midi mapping flexibility of traktor is one of the major things it has going for it - so they're hardly about to remove that. i don't suspect there's many people who *only* use NI hardware with traktor (if they have multiple controllers ofc).

i'd like to see them open up their hid format as (at least in traktor) it does seem to offer some advantages for jogs (still don't know *why* tho) but apart from that hid doesn't offer many advantages over midi, unless they were to really add features like being able to display the waveform on a controller or something or browse tracks actually from a controller with the track names on the controllers display.

midi has been around for 30 years and isn't about to go away just yet... it would take some new open format protocol with significant advantages over midi, while somehow keep some kind of backwards compatibility, to make that happen. i don't know much about OSC but it certainly hasn't killed midi - and while that's the case NI will have to keep mapping their software open to midi and other manufacturers.

so no - i can't personally see NI going the rane/serato route - they would lose too many customers.

I was going to buy one, but I wanted to see what NI was going to do. What if NI decides to cripple everything and you have to get NI stuff? Similar to what Rane/Serato is doing. I know the K2 looks awesome, but lately, I've been afraid to buy anything because it would be a lost investment 6mos later or so. I do have a DB4 and I just love the sound that comes out of this thing and haven't heard anything (digital) that compares to it. But I do feel a bit of remorse in that it's not completely free.

I've read Mix Architekt's posts and seen all the other product reps vids and I can see the excitement they have with the xone line, but I just can't feel it the same. I love A&H stuff, but ... I just don't know anymore. Just seems every piece of hardware need software to be useful these days. Is there something I'm missing?

the PL-1 does look very nice. after finding out what they're like when finally released i believe i'll opt for either a pair of those or two DNSC2000's. i'm pretty sure i'll go for a k2 and not mm-1 as it seems to have a lot more potential and i do need a soundcard. mm-1 and audio2 is probably the same price but i do like multi colour led feedback

It will be used alongside my Kontrol X1 and I may go ahead and acquire a Kontrol X1 when they are released.

here's my tsi for 2 K2's connected through a DB-series mixer or directly via usb. it is based on my 4D map, where 2 columns of controls are dedicated to each deck, CABD layout, and a bunch of new things for pitch bend, master tempo control, etc... loop on load enabled by default, since that's how i use traktor. and it's written in TP1.2.7 for now, because that's what i like to use. i've had these running since october of last year, and they work incredibly well in performance.

http://mixarchitekt.com/teknik/MA_K2_tsi.zip

also, for any of you wondering why your K2's are not working via xlink, make sure you have the in/out order proper (DB mixer is the IN, the K2 sends OUT to it...) and that you haven't damaged the xlink port by shoving usb cables into them and bending the teeth of the ethernet contacts. if the contacts are equally flattened, you can some times tuck the ethernet cable under the mixer to put some tension to make contact, otherwise if the teeth are crossed, you'll want to look at a repair option.

B&h had a few in stock on wed and thur - my boy grabbed one for me from there.

Theres another place in Li that has new stuff in stock sometimes.. Cant recall name tho but theres not alot of dj stores in li.. Its kinda close to queens.

If guitar center is selling them, try calling around to different guitar centers and u might find one in stock.

Everywhere else i can believe of usually doesnt stock anything but rather ships from manufacturer

That and in most cases is left sleeping in the customs office for 2 weeks - 1 month, unless you payoff the dude there. I'm not paying a single dime to those leeching c_nts. Yes, as openly as I tell you is how these guys work, it's really sad.

It's a hard moment for imports so everything is worsened.

Still, the apc-x1 combo somehow avoided my thoughts till now, little odd considering i owned both.

1700 new, I'm selling mine for 1300 without software (it's tied to a scratch duo license and I can't be arsed to split it and get a new one). It's in pretty decent shape, but it's the oldest here (first unit to cross the border) and has a few teaching lessons under it's wing. Customs offices catches everything technology wise unless it's a gift or you pay them a little fee for their trouble...

In all honesty I believe they are totally off their minds with this one because it's Allen (and the 2D still goes for around 900). A totally reasonable price would be 500, and that still leaves them a nice cut.
I might just drop the k2 pair concept and get an APC40 and a pair of X1 for the same money, I already have a nice soundcard, only thing i'm missing is 4 deck external mixing but the state of booths around here is the main reason i always mixed internally.

Luckily I earn part of my salary in dollars, else I would have to add the currency conversion to that like the rest of the peeps here have to. It's quite hard to buy dollars atm (long story, google it if you wish) so the bastards add a 0,5 peso difference per dollar.

Long story short, if it wasn't for the band I'm in atm I would be moving to aussieland in about a month. I'm fed up with this kind of crap
