Xone: K2 Thread
Xone: K2 Thread Posted on: 30.09.2011 by Romelia Stankard Wow this looks promissinghttp://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Produc...neK2&SubCatId= So if you link two together with the ethernet cable through USB, will it 'merge' the soundcard so you have a 4 channel soundcard? If it does then you could bring two to a gig, hook them together with ethernet and not need another audio interface and have a 4 channel soundcard. It kind of sucks they put one 1/8" on the front instead of having both outputs in the back. It makes it a little awkward if you wanted to run both outputs to separate channels on the mixer, now you have to run a cable to the front. Also remember you have the option to run each channel in traktor mono so you could use one of them as a 4 channel soundcard with a few adapters (like you would with an audio 2 or 4). Plus a lot of systems are mono anyway. I really like the idea of having one or two of these with a DB2 or DB4 for a home setup then just take them to your gig with a laptop and you have an audio interface to use already in your controller with the house mixer. I love the X1s but I might have to give them up for these, i would love to get my hands on one. | |
Horace Yemm 03.10.2012 | Alright people. I have a K2 and have an X1 emulator tsi running Traktor just to start things simple. At the moment I seem to only be able to run it through usb, i get nothing from the Xlink - Any ideas? I have tested a loaded a TSI for Ableton and this time I cannot get the K2 to be recognised in the Midi sync tab under control surface yet it shows up in the input output and also midi ports. I run a mac so from what I gather I don't need to install any drivers and cannot see anything on the cd that comes with it. I am a mapping novice and have only mapped basic stuff in Ableton to my APC40 in the last. I might have missed something really obvious and only have limited knowledge so can someone help a brother out? Cheers - Mark |
Larae Knifong 18.09.2012 | I need more channels for my live shows to be able to work video, lighting, sound and robotics. It would allow me to use the A&H gear as an all-in-one console. I'm just trying to simplify my set-up. |

Leeanna Ayla 18.09.2012 | You will not be able to aggregate the sound card on any K2 connected via X:link. So K2 <X:Link> K2 --> USB 1 on the Mac will give you output 1-2 and output 3-4 on the K2 connected to USB. Because you're connected via X:Link to the other K2 you will not be able to use its sound card. Just to clarify output 1-2 is l-r headphones on the front and 3-4 is l-r of the main RCS's on the back. |
Larae Knifong 18.09.2012 | Yes I concur with x-link protocol. But Let's say it was hooked up like this - K2 <x-link> K2 --> USB 1 on the Mac - this gives me 8 channels then DB4 --> USB 2 on the mac - this gives me 8 channels also Can I agregate the 3 soundcards whilst they are hooked up to both USB ports on my Mac? |
Leeanna Ayla 18.09.2012 | No sound goes through the X-link at all so you would have to connect all through to USB to aggregate them. |
Larae Knifong 18.09.2012 | I have a question. I want to buy 2 K2's. By what I've researched the K2 only emits CC data through the x-link on the DB4, not sound. So if you hook up the K2's to one USB port on your Mac and the DB4 to the other USB port, are you able to aggregate the 3soundcards to provide 16 outgoing channels? |
Alejandrina Hicken 05.09.2012 | Definitely rubber feet on the K2 I got shortly after its initial release. They work great, and it's a shame if they decided to switch over to plastic. |

Carrie Vongonten 06.08.2012 | Nothing unfortunate about using an MBA You have 2 USB ports, one for the K2, one for the Launchpad.. What's the third device? |
Basil Forshee 06.08.2012 | Always be looking for a powered USB hub. But try to connect the Xone K2 directly to the laptop if you're using its soundcard. |
Kevin Tarman 05.08.2012 | i should be getting my first k2 this week, unfortunately ill be using it with a 13" macbook which only has 2 usb ports. has anyone used a similar set up, or know if i split one usb port from the mac with an unpowered usb hub and use it with a launchpad will it have enough power for both, or should i be looking for a powered usb hub? or will splitting both on the one port cause problems for both? |
Carrie Vongonten 05.08.2012 | Got it, sorry for my ignorance |
Kiyoko Wellisch 05.08.2012 | Instant gratification is the name given to a DJTT midi fighter mapping that just spews generic sounding effects over tracks when you put buttons randomly. People port it to different controllers, he's looking for one for the K2. |
Carrie Vongonten 05.08.2012 | Well how should we know what brings you gratification? The possibilities with the K2 are huge, as are your expectations probably.. |

Laquita Gerbert 29.06.2012 | Thats very helpful. With what setup? |
Kandy Ahdoot 29.06.2012 | I use a k2 and the sound is more than loud enough and I have ran the k2 and audio 2 side by side and they are pretty much on par |
Laquita Gerbert 29.06.2012 | Yea I know. I read the soundcheck on TraktorBible. And I already tried a new unit. My software is Traktor, as said, and works absolutely fine with every other soundcard... Edit: And I tried with a few different mixers, Pioneer, Denon, Vestax, everything! Just not loud enough! |
Kiyoko Wellisch 30.06.2012 | Really? The reviews I've read say it is suitably loud. You sure it wasn't a software problem? Maybe you have a dud unit? |
Laquita Gerbert 30.06.2012 | Well, this weekend was the first time I used the K2 in a Club. I gotta say that the sound quality pretty much sucks. Its way more quietly then even the maya44, the most quiet soundcard I've ever heard. I am very disappointed. Nobody else noticed the lack of loudness? Using K2 with Traktor 2.5 on Mac, internal mixing mode. Via chinch into a mixer and had to go full gain to compete with the maya44. |
Kiyoko Wellisch 28.06.2012 | Midi mapping is super duper easy. Have a go! What you've described sounds like a good beginner project. The traktor manual explains midi mapping pretty well and I'm sure there's a few good DJTT youtube videos that could help. |
Shalon Jaranilla 28.06.2012 | Is there a tsi file out for 2 k2's that work with the db4, and incorporate pitch control through the fader or a rotary knob, Because i play a lot of different genres and i like to change tempo through my sets so from 126 bpm to 105 bpm with two decks synced, and to do this i need a pitch fader. in a way make the functions a bit like a s4, scroll through song, loop knob to contol the measurement of the loop loop with possibility to shift loop forwards and back wards, pitch fader, pitch bend, pre-listen songs without putting them into a deck, i know the asked functions scream denon sc2000 but i would like to have the function of xlink. never midi mapped before and don't know if it's difficult, so if somebody made already a mapping that would be nice. |
Rosamaria Wehrung 28.06.2012 | Well, it would be good news if the K2 works as it should. I would hate to see my PC die on me though. |
Kiyoko Wellisch 28.06.2012 | I thought electronics were commonly grounded like that? |
Rosamaria Wehrung 29.06.2012 | Experienced something weird with my new K2. When it was plugged into the USB port and hooked up to headphones and speakers, the metal face plate had an electric current running when I touched it. This definitely wasn't static electricity, but alternating current around the amount a USB port would produce. I contacted the retailer, who in turn contacted Allen & Heath. The answer was really strange; they told me there was current leaking from my computer to the unit, which was grounded on the face plate. So the unit should be OK and my computer should be the culprit. My question to you: is this a plausible answer from Allen & Heath? It sounds incredibly stupid that the circuits are connected to the face plate. |

I used to work at the highest sampling rate the hardware and software would allow but I've been pretty much convinced to stick to 44.1 after reading that stuff (and I never noticed any difference sound-wise anyway). |

Kandy Ahdoot 21.06.2012 | just bit the bullet and ordered my frist k2,hoping to get a db2 in the next few months and add another k2 |
Lynetta Stanislav 21.06.2012 | Mix Architekt when do you believe the new Db4 tsi update will be released. Thanks for all the great help you give here. |
Brant Briski 19.06.2012 | ok, if pin 1 is off, that can definitely be the cause. i had a similar situation in beijing last month where the K2's would illuminate but not transmit. on close inspection of the DB4, the xlink port had been raped by usb connectors and pin 1+3 were bent. some times you can use a very fine probe to push the pin back on track, but be super careful because breaking it will require it to be sent out for service. i have updates in the works for TP2.5, though it's taking a bit longer than expected since the LED output did not transfer gracefully in this new version. 4D and DB4 are complete, K2 is sorted except for chained/advanced fx mode indication. i can't for the life of me get consistent results for led output with the new tsi settings. |
