(former thread title Xone: DB4- convince me not to sell off my possessions and drain my bank account)

I mean it's just a mixer, nothing I should sell my S4 and some other expensive possessions for and drain my bank account completely for... right?

I am having a hard time with this decision. I know it won't make me a better DJ, yet it gives me the urge to make irrational spending decisions. Please talk me out of it.

Rotary update: A&H responded and said they forwarded the idea to the dev team so who knows, it would be cool. If it sounds like something you're interested in you should send a ticket to a&h support as well so they see there is more interest.

I switch between EQ and ISO mode, I haven't really messed with the filter mode yet since it's very non traditional and I don't quite have the hang of it.

A friend of mine, who works at our country's distributor told me about the price hike before I bought the mixer. He only knew about the hike becuase of oil & gas going up. It cost them more to recieve the units and to ship them out to retailers.

I'm mixing and I realize there is potential to easily turn the DB4 into a rotary mixer with a small firmware update. All they would have to do is swap the D/W knob and the volume fader on each channel so the linear fader becomes D/W and the big chunky knob (which by the way is the same knob used on the 92R and Xone: S2) becomes volume.

Seems pretty simple and it is laid out perfectly so that you could actually have a rotary mixer with a firmware update, that is absolutely huge. You could switch between rotary mixer and linear mixer with a press of a button! I'm going to go talk to A&H about this, they must have thought of it...?
Email A&H. Might happen.

Just tried that track and the DB4 kept up just fine. Dipped off as much as +-4bpm on some parts, but was steady at 168 through almost the entire track.

I really wish I could show everyone who is at all interested in dj gear who has never heard a DB4 what this thing and the effects sound like on a good soundsystem. Absolutely incredible.

I have been experimenting with the NxtDoor reverb some more and have come up with some cool mixing/efx techniques. Basically I will turn NxtDoor on on the incoming cued track channel 100% wet with expression knob all the way to the left (I believe it is filter but the lows are boosted that way most), then an agressive slope on FX ADJ.

At the very start of a long breakdown on a track I will start the incoming track and mix it in with the effect on all the way wet so it sounds like it is being played in another room then very slowly bring the D/W down over the course of the breakdown of track A so it sounds like it is getting closer and closer until finally it 'enters' the room.

Alternatively you can create an awesome effect where you have NxtDoor engaged on each channel at the same settings with the incoming track 100% wet and the outgoing track 100% dry then you turn both knobs so it is like you are walking from one club room to another each with a different track. As a bonus the D/W knobs are the same as the volume knobs on the Xone: 92R so it feels like you are mixing on a rotary mixer. So cool I will have to make some effects video demos but I don't know if my camera can do justice to the sound. I encourage you DB4 owners to give it a try and let me know what you believe.

@kev - There was actually a few reasons why I didn't buy from them.
Mainly warranty issues a I don't live in the US.
Your previous post mentioning the drop-ship turned me off too.

We have a different distributor. So I spent more to get the best warranty and service.

Got mine from proaudiostar and they basically drop ship from the distributor. You can even check with the distributor and they'll confirm whether a serial # is brand new or refurb.

I believe this is how most places are selling these (drop-ship from distributor) so they are all coming from same place.

ProAudioStar was the absolute cheapest deal around by quite a bit. Luckily Im in their neighborhood so I did a cash deal. I've used them for other stuff in the past and they are pretty good and straightforward guys imo. I certainly dont know them well enough to vouch for them personally but they seem OK to me + they are the cheapest around for most everything you could want..

I dont believe they could somehow get faulty units for cheaper if its coming from distributor and quite franctly, if they have to replace them - it wouldnt benefit them to do so even if they could..

Great! Thanks for checking.

How high did you have the volume up? Each line gain was at 12 o'clock and all faders were up. I can start to hear the noise with master, booth, and heaphone volume around the 1 o'clock mark. It really sounds like aliens are trying to communicate though my mixer using radio static.

I raised a ticket with A&H yesterday and they closed it today but raised the priority on it. Not sure what that means.... Though I am concerned they haven't updated me personally.

I'm assuming this is a known issue with them. I read somewhere that resetting the mixer solved the problem. I tried this, but didn't work for me. Maybe they'll address it in the next firmware.

I was surprised to find that I never had any issues with breaks/dnb bpm detection. In 6 months I haven't found any track with a constant bpm that eludes the detection system. I'll try with that specific track when i'm at home and let you know if no one else gets to it first.

It was only happening on the 2nd channel strip and when I assigned that channel to no filter or filter 1 audio came back as normal. I had traktor minimized while this happened so I didn't see what was going on on screen and it turns out the db4 was sending a conflicting midi signal with an old map I had in traktor and was stopping and restarting the deck. Pretty crazy and a big relief, I guess the db4 sends midi signals for everything on the mixer?

Ya.. theres something funny that happened like this with midifighter.. if I pressed a midifighter button, it would cause the db4 menu screen to come on.

Havent figured that out yet.. I cant really see why it would happen since db4 is on channel 16 and I believe mf was set to channel 3..

any ideas? would a midi signal of:
channel 16 e1 + channel 3 e1 cause a conflict?

I definitely have some midi commands that are the same but I thought that being on different channels wouldnt cause a conflict.. maybe Im wrong..

Theres a vid of A. Rigby-Jones at UK BPM 2010 (google this> Allen & Heath Xone DB4 - live demo at the UK BPM Show 2010 approx. 06:24mark) where he shows all the delay FX. There's somthing like a BP Delay 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. And much more. I don't have these. It looks like there's more reverbs and mods too. Worth a look anyway.
