Xone: DB4- the official unofficial thread

(former thread title Xone: DB4- convince me not to sell off my possessions and drain my bank account)

I mean it's just a mixer, nothing I should sell my S4 and some other expensive possessions for and drain my bank account completely for... right?

I am having a hard time with this decision. I know it won't make me a better DJ, yet it gives me the urge to make irrational spending decisions. Please talk me out of it.

If it didn't cost over $2000 I would be giving him hell to.

Good point, I'll check it once I'm at home.

I start working for NI next year and will try to Traktor-certify the DJM2000 myself (for myself).

This thread is great. I almost felt all the anticipation in here.

While you're at it:
Please convince me to return my DJM2000 and get the DB4! I decided not to get CDJ 2000s because the sucks so there's no need for a Pioneer-mixer anymore.

Just wanted to awnser the question in the first post, new expensive gear versus what he already has.
I believe nearly every DJ knows what I said, I would just hate to see him spend a huge amount of money because he might regret it later, I know I would really regret it today if I had bought a pioneer set up a few months ago.

Lol at reliable surely?! It's faulty.

This whole thread isn't about being a better DJ, it's about gear lust.

Nothing wrong with that but is what it is.

I don't see xonetacular posting loads of links to mixes he has made... Just pics of gear.

But this is a Dj gear dedicated site. So if you can't post and chat about gear here then where can you?

I guess I should return my db4 instead of getting it replaced. I thought if I told the promoters I would be bringing my Xone: DB4 it would pretty much guarantee me a gig.

I can't tell if you're being serious coldfusion, are you saying 4 CDJ2000s and a DJM2000 will make you a better DJ?

God damnit, seriously? I just wasted like a TON of money on all this gear and ... that won't make me better? Fuck. Guess I better go return my 4 CDJ2000s and DJM2000.

So you can add it in your sig and put pics in "Show Your Setup II" thread and make everyone jealous, duh!

We are all well aware that gear doesn't improve skill but gear can make a set by giving tools you just can't do with other stuff- and if you really believe that then by all means have fun with two turntables and a two channel mixer.... However it is not a reason not to get awesome pieces of technology that make the whole process more fun, enjoyable, reliable, and sound better regardless of whether or not it could be done with other gear.

If I really like and am passionate about the gear I'm using then I am more comfortable and mix better and the gear gives inspiration and dictates workflow.

It's truly incredible, I hadn't even seen one in person until I got mine. I mixed with it a bit last evening by messing in the menu and setting the booth output to output cue/headphones and plugging my headphones into the booth output.

traktor's effects are toys in comparison. the bpm detection is outstanding and the in line loopers are awesome and way more useful than traktor's autolooping a lot of the time.

I just dropped it off at UPS to send back to proaudiostar, hopefully this doesn;t take too long

the effects on the db4 are incredible and make some of traktor's effects sound like a joke.

the reverbs and delays are out of this world. I love the nextdoor reverb it sounds exactly like you are standing outside a club then you bring the d/w down and it's like you are walking inside.

I was a little annoyed, I got a quote for $2099 shipped new that they said they would honor for 15 days then said A&Hs prices went up and the best they could do was 2299 new and could no longer honor their quote. I got them to offer 2199, it's kind of annoying but still a good price and $100 doesn't mean too much in the scheme of dropping 2k. They only offered 2199 when it was clear I was about to hang up and after being put on hold to talk to whoever was in charge a few times.
I believe you got an awsome deal. They quoted me $2,350 incl shipping to canada. The cheapest I could find in Canada was $2,658. I didn't buy form Proaudiostar becuase they would only give me 30days warranty. After reading forward into your story about the cue gain, I'm glad I didn't. I bought locally for piece of mind. I hope you get your issue fixed. I ordered one too, two weeks ago for $2640. So It'll probably be at the shop next week.

I was in the market for a new 2 channel a month or so ago, and being a A&H fanboy, I immediatly went for the small Xone22. After trying several out, wasn't impressed at all...went with the Ecler. I agree completely that their quality has degraded. Humming noises, clicky sounds when buttons are pressed...

I've also just noticed one of the phono preamps doesn't work too. The 1st input is really really quiet and the sound doesn't change when you hit the phono/line switch. Inputs 2 and 3 work fine for phono.

Got mine thru proaudiostar who just has them drop shipped direct from distributor.. So i dont believe that its anything specific to them. Mine was ok so i believe its just an f'ed up coincidence. Id be a bit pissed too about the wait but proaudiostar is a good place so theyll probably do the best they can to get u a new unit asap if u hassle em just a bit.

Btw, mine was at my door 2 days after i ordered from them using std free shipping.

Mine was completely DOA when I got it; now I'm worried. Proaudiostar was cool about handling the return though; my new unit should show up next week so we'll see how it goes. Also go to the Allen + Heath website and send a message to support -- they can advise you as to whether there's an easy fix, which is what I was hoping for when I got mine.

Hopefully this is just an unlucky coincidence if they had two bunk units.

I'd be completely pissed about that. It's not like it's an inexpensive piece of gear . That mixer costs more than most cars I've owned.
