(former thread title Xone: DB4- convince me not to sell off my possessions and drain my bank account)

I mean it's just a mixer, nothing I should sell my S4 and some other expensive possessions for and drain my bank account completely for... right?

I am having a hard time with this decision. I know it won't make me a better DJ, yet it gives me the urge to make irrational spending decisions. Please talk me out of it.

meaning you bought one or you really want one?

I really like that mixer, but I'm still not sure I'd buy it.

DB2 does not have a send mode at the moment. it has post fader fx with a few different routing options related to the xfader.

i made a minor error of clarity in my send mode description (post fader is on the mind and we're still in a pre-fade world for a few more months.) the return of the fx engine on the db4 in send mode is running parallel with the dry signal in a pre-fader routing. the send function allows the tail to ring out, since you are feeding the fx engine at the head, which allows you to sweep in a delay or if you believe of your knob movements as ADSR, can yield all sorts of expressive facility with the delays in particular.

send mode does not feed the fx output back into the input. you can do that by creating a feedback loop with record send into an input channel or digitally using the master out into a coax in.

our NZ and AU tour starts today so looking forward to seeing the locals out over the next 3 weeks. kindred studios gig in melbourne will be fun fun.

Do you know if the DB2 has a similar function? I believe you mentioned those effects were post faders?

It seems like it just keeps feeding the fx output back into the fx engine so ur deay or verb will keep growing and growing..when turned back to completely dry, it will take time to fade out.. Definitely gives some different results than classic modes.. Have to be pretty careful because it can grow into a loud noise quickly if u dont watch what ur doing carefully..

It sounds good.. I just like the classic modes too much i believe..

Yeah it needs to be a quality 4gb or less usb stick formatted fat32 with just the (extracted) firmware on it. USB sticks larger than 4gb or no name brands may not work. I use a 4GB Crucial for flashing.

Well if it shipped with an old firmware that is a version behind the one that came before this latest release that could be a problem. I would just update the firmware or at least to the last one (not sure if it's on the website still, I can send it to you when I get home). But really you can just flash to the latest, only difference is you lose the ability to do the original killsend toggle mode which may not matter to you.

Just route them as normal to the DB4 soundcard outputs like you would any soundcard and turn the usb input toggle switch on for each channel of the mixer.

First the toggle kill/send mode was via holding down the FX and another button? Because it didn't work when I tried it ...

Awesome! I would play around on the original, the one thing I don't like about the new firmware (if beta is the same) is the original toggle kill send mode is gone.

Dunno if this helps anybody but heres how i run tsp with timecode routed thru ableton and into db4.

Traktor uses ni audio soundcard in and outs which is cabled to db4 via rcas. Ableton uses db4 soundcard in and outs to route audio to db4. Midi clock from traktor is sent via Loopb1 virtual cable to ableton. Same virtual loopb1 cable is sent to db4. Aleton and db4 set to receive ext midi clock.

Db4 usb routing menu (which i screwed up and changed by accident after firmre upgrade) is what seems to make this possible. I basically am sending the returned timecode controlled audio from db4 into traktor and then back out.

Works quite well for me. Wish i had less cables but oh well, doesnt look like nis gonna certify so wont keep crying over spilled milk.

4 decks of traktor into the db4 via ni audio interface.
stereo out of maschine into the db4 line/mic in for the 2nd laptop.
midi cable for sync between the 2 laptops.
2 cdj's as back up in case the laptops fail.
he was not using the db4's usb audio interface.

that's it.

if you want timecode and a db4, you can use the native interface and all is well.
Why wasn't he using the DB4 audio interface, it's just a pity to use one more soundcard, right? But I've read somewhere else - I believe on your Facebook - that he since then is using the DB4's audio interface?
