Xone: DB4- the official unofficial thread Posted on: 18.10.2011 by Romelia Stankard (former thread title Xone: DB4- convince me not to sell off my possessions and drain my bank account)I mean it's just a mixer, nothing I should sell my S4 and some other expensive possessions for and drain my bank account completely for... right? I am having a hard time with this decision. I know it won't make me a better DJ, yet it gives me the urge to make irrational spending decisions. Please talk me out of it. | |
Basil Forshee 28.02.2012 | Euhhhh, I believe you don't get the point of the USB soundcard... I don't care about Traktor Scratch, as long as I can use 4 USB channels on the DB2/4 with Traktor, which in this case, I can. Together with two 1D's/X1's/K2's they're are a powerful weapon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHPLFPMintM If only you knew the possibilities... |

Buy a soundcard... lol Thank you guys for all your help, helped figure out what I am going to do..... |
Tatum Ansaldo 28.02.2012 | If you take the dn-x1600 as a comparison, it's much less clear what a particular channel is assigned to. |
Romelia Stankard 28.02.2012 | Good point, it's all about the Matrix input which would not work right if there were individual phono/line inputs. You would need an added switch on each channel to toggle between the two which would just confuse things. When things get crazy with the matrix routing it can be confusing enough and to have to worry about another switch would not be worth it. |
Tatum Ansaldo 28.02.2012 | The setup I suggested doesn't even need the digital inputs. If you had more inputs it would just make the matrix input system too complicated, or you'd have to have yet another switch up at the top for line/phono. I believe the simplicity of the matrix input is worth sacrificing a couple of RCA sockets. |
Dorie Scelzo 28.02.2012 | If you use the digtial IO, I guess it'd be fine. It's just limiting for no good reason. |

I'm not willing to use a thru mode, even if I upgraded to an SL4. It's a pointless flaw masquerading as a feature. The 04 pro IV can do it, and it's a 2-channel mixer. There's no reason for the db4 not to. It's a really sad day when I would choose Pioneer over A&H. |
Romelia Stankard 28.02.2012 | There's really no need for more than the 4 stereo in pairs on the DB4. It only affects people using first generation DVS soundcards that were designed to use multicores or two sets of RCAs like on the SL1, and if I'm spending $2200+ on a digital mixer and I really was serious about using DVS I would just get a proper A10 or SL4 and it wouldn't matter. You can still run 4 decks plus a 5th channel running Maschine on the DB4 just fine which is what quite a few people do. Hell you can still run 4 turntables (with latest firmware and soft RIAA) and 4 CDJs all connected at the same time just fine on the DB4 with the digital inputs. |

If you're using DVS you have inputs for 4 decks which is surely ample, and if you want to play real vinyl or CDs here and there that's why we have thru mode. If you're just using CDJs you have digital inputs and analogues. So far the only disadvantage I see is that you can't use the direct through feature of multicore cables for more than 2 decks, which I doubt many will see as a massive problem. I do enjoy your rants mostapha, but I do believe you're often far too quick to write something off for having a small feature you don't like. If you don't want the FX, the DBs were never going to appeal to you anyway. |
Dorie Scelzo 28.02.2012 | The inputs on the db4 mean I would never buy it. I'd probably try to avoid using it in a club if possible. Seriously, IDK what they were believeing. The stuff I already use would take up more inputs than it has, and I'm not willing to change just for effects that I don't want. |

Is it fiddly or straight forward to switch between vinyl and control vinyl? |

Juliette Vensel 27.02.2012 | just found place in Illinois selling with promo DB4 ~ $2320 (1 left) DB2 ~ $1440 (pre-order) |
Kalyn Billodeau 26.02.2012 | I use the rotary function too, love it! U just miss the send/return like the 92 has. Any way to work around this? As I only use two channels, but would love to use an external looper (Soundbite) or distortion pedal... |
Felipe Rasper 26.02.2012 | I also Love the Rotary option, use it a lot. Was using the send knob on my :42 as a rotary option now and then. |

Loreta Altema 25.02.2012 | So I stumbled on this last evening
.. In the settings Menu under Rotary, you can change your channel vol to be controlled by the D/W rotary and then use the slider as your D/W.. I likkee. |
Judi Sissel 25.02.2012 | Well I have only experimented with what can be mapped through traktor, I have never been able to get my hands on a Xone before. I could only imagine that the quality of sound coming out of a DB mixer is amazing. As far as using filters to eq it has completely gotten me back in to mixing. I unknowingly happen to mix for almost 2.5 hours last evening - that's the longest I have mixed for in a long time. I am sure you guys do and/or use your gear more then me, but I am only a hobbyist who is financially stable with no other responsibilities. I am still considering a DB model cause I love mixing and making sounds with music. With what I've seen and heard on the DB models, making "sounds" (by effects) is one thing that no other mixer manufacturer can come close to replicating (outside of completely switching to abelton, which I wont do). To clarify- I don't mean using effects to mask or make overly muttered transitions, builds and breaks, but more along the lines of a clean sound and style of a "live remix". I can see how the DB4 can be very beneficial in respects to the style of mixing I want to pursue... ... time to really believe about this "hobby". |
Felipe Rasper 23.02.2012 | The DB2 is beast no doubt about it ! I believe you would be very impressed with it. Are you used to Xone filters at the moment ? |

Judi Sissel 22.02.2012 | If thats the case, would you guys mind talking me out of getting the DB2? I believe I am going through my 1/4 life crisis- I am either going to buy the DB2, get a motorcycle (and probably kill myself on it) or build an assault rifle (probably kill someone else with it) lol. |
Felipe Rasper 22.02.2012 | Cool idea ! |

Romelia Stankard 22.02.2012 | Listen to the reverbs on good speakers, particularly the NxtDoor reverb is really cool |
Loreta Altema 22.02.2012 | Mine jsut got here!!! Can't wait to get off work and start playing!! Anything a virgin DB4 owner should check out in particular? |
Alverta Papapietro 22.02.2012 | Does anyone have a good trolley for the DB4 included accessories? It must fit inside: Xone DB4 MBP 15" HD25 2x Midi Controller (Like X1,K2 or the new F1) A few cables Powerstrip |
