The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X
Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead.

We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already.

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

^^^Bass is so cash!^^^

Im from Puerto Rico and we are having like 9 electronica gigs a month with 4 - 5 being Drum n Bass and Electro/fidget . On march we had Paul B, LTJ Bukem, ROB SPARX & DFRNT, DJ SS among others.

Now on Holy Week we are having the http://www.SynergyWesternFest.com/, an electronica fest from April 1 - 3 on a outdoor venue called "The UFO road" where many believers come to film and do tests about many UFO sightings in the area. So you could be dancing to the dnb and see a fcking UFO taking off the nearby hill to finally cream your pants. Im so going there.

New one out on Ammo for you Tech heads

Flame started electronic music production in early 2000. After much hard work, Flame was at the forefront of the successful Russian project known as Skyform. After having successful releases on local CD & Digital labels, he joined up with fellow countryman and producer Lex, to form Tenebra.

Since 2002, Flame has been DJ'ing in clubs around Eastern Europe, gaining experience playing alongside names like Goldie, Dom & Roland, Dillinja, Paradox, Pyro, Optiv, Shroombab, Loxy, Ink and many others. This was also when Flame began taking his production in a neurofunk/tech direction, which you can still hear today. Inspired by artists he had played alongside, as well as the likes of Raiden, Sinthetix, Black Sun Empire, Ed Rush & Optical, he developed his own signature, highly respected sound.

To date he has a lengthy back catalogue of material, spanning many respected labels as well as vinyl releases on Sudden Def & Leet with Tenebra, and incoming solo productions on the likes of Cyclone (12"), BlackSeeds (12"), Fallout, Modulate, and now Ammunition!

Currently out now on Ammunition's 38th Digital installment, Flame's "Space Pioneer" EP featuring Encode! Big techy numbers with basslines that smash dancefloors, these have gained huge approval all across the globe by some of dnb's finest!

Andy C and RAM crew are playing Toronto, Canada this month in what could be the biggest evening club in the city. Drum'n'bass is not dead, it's just always evolving.

DJ Zinc coined his own 'crack house' breaks/house/bass music sound.
All the dubstep and bass music kids (Drop The Lime et al) are digging in their crates for early 90s rave and jungle records.
Breakage, Chase & Status and others are going the dubstep route.

And with future 2-step, garage and UK funky getting so hot it's only time before d'n'b gets caught up in it as well

Juan Jose Diaz, otherwise known as KUNG, is a young producer of drum and bass music, reigning from Granada, Spain. His beginnings in electronic music began some years ago, but it was not until 2007 that he decided to devote himself to it professionally.

Kung's first release was in The Factory Digital Recs Georgia. Shortly after, labels suchas Ammunition Recordings (USA) and Melting Pot (Spain) also worked with him to cultivate and push his sounds to the masses. Kung's tunes were widely accepted by the public, and also from some major producers, both domestically, and internationally (Possible Axiom Remix Incoming Ammo!)

In 2010, Kung also joins some very respected labels suchas C2D (UK) and the up'n'coming Black Seeds (ITALY). 2010 is shaping up to be a very promising year for Kung. But don't let us tell you... these are only words... inflict yourself with his sounds!

Currently out now on Ammunition's 36th Digital installment, we bring you Kung's "Subpoetry" EP! Massive tunes showcasing his diverse sound! High energy, melodic, minimal, whatever you enjoy, be sure to checkout this EP! Massive support from some of dnb's finest!
