The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?) Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead. We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already. Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade. With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB. Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!" If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles? No, kill your idols instead! There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past. How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep? Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are. There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing. Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us. Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996! | |

Ranee Boome 09.11.2009 | Not to plug or anything but you guys should defo checkout Ammunition Recs. We've been compared to Spor, Noisia, C4C, etc, and actually have C4C playing a few of our tunes, as well as Audio, Prolix, Elhornet (Pendulum), Shock One, etc. We've got our 1st vinyl incoming with Axiom on one side, InsideInfo, Kiro, & 59Crime on the flip, and LOTS of other great stuff out digitally by some great producers. I got started in electronic music with dark brutal dnb business (Tech Itch / Evol / Counterstrike). I bought 2 shitty decks and a mixer and my buddy let me borrow this crate of vinyl, and it had some really hard shit along those lines in it. Afterwards, I drifted to some breaks / house, but found it didn't have a fast enough tempo and energy so I ended up getting even more into the hard stuff, and have grown more towards tech / neurofunk. Gotta love those growling moving basslines! *PS* Showing my inner dork but I got post 1337! * |
Virginia Ortiz 09.11.2009 | yea i'm into the dark and angry too. a metaller at heart but anything with epic smashy bass noizes is tops imo |
Gilda Bousfield 09.11.2009 | I like the hard stuff too stuff like Noisia, Spor and Calyx and Teebee. When I was a teenager I used to love jump up, that is what if refering to as rubbish. Listen to Spectrasoul, Rockwell, Alix Pirez and Commix all amazing artists. Better than any house I have heard in a long time. |

Ranee Boome 09.11.2009 | Lol @ the angry teenagers comment. I'm no teenager and I like the harder more energetic stuff most of the time, but then again, I also grew up on a harder rock background, so it kinda fits. On a note of it splitting up and lending itself to outside influences, Ammunition has a release out today by an artist named Xilent. 3 Drum n' Bass tunes with an Electro'ish feel, killer combo, and he pulls it off nicely! Getting some huge support on this one from John B and many more, check it out if you guys are interested, the release info's posted up here: http://djranking s.com/community /showthr...7542#post77542 Respeks djranking s! Dnb is not dead! |
Gilda Bousfield 09.11.2009 | Drum and bass dead????? R u joking???? At is at it's peak!!! The only problem is that now it has split like house did, which is a good thing as alot of the stuff is terrible and made for angry teenagers. Listen to my mix and I believe u will agree that D&B has never been better. |

Adolf Hit 17.10.2009 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2GE2...layer_embedded Best one I have seen so far ! |
Lyndon Petrusek 02.10.2009 | By the way, I love me some electro house and other stuff too, and I'm in no way a dnb Nazi; however, there u have my 2 cents. |
Lyndon Petrusek 02.10.2009 | I dabble in many other genres... But DnB will never die. It moves from here to there but it's still kicking. I like a lot of dubstep but... In small doses. It is hardly a replacement for dnb... And now some dnb and electro house producers ate using a ton of dubstep tricks and bass and well... Damn... More energy. My main gripe with dubstep is that I can't listen to it for extended periods. I mean... It's bad ass sh*t, but only for so long. However, dropping a dubstep tune at the right time in a mix can create a devastatingly awesome effect. But to me, that's what it is--an effect. Trouble with a lot of the guys that switch from dnb to dub is that they are overdoing the effect, and it can only last so long. It's great music but very difficult to consider dance music. Myself, Gridlok, and many others may agree. Ha ha, that's a name drop, but u gotta love a guy you've known since highschool, got into the music, and dude is still kicking as and holding a strong flag in the US. |
