The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?) Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead. We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already. Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade. With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB. Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!" If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles? No, kill your idols instead! There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past. How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep? Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are. There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing. Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us. Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996! | |
Tianna Laguerre 11.06.2010 | it's no news, but are you as blown away by Netsky's album as I am? 'slike this track has summer all over it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHFr-z4b6PY |
Ranee Boome 09.06.2010 | Artwork for that Cooh vid is sick. Catchy hard tune as well! |
Adolf Hit 09.06.2010 | Nice, Im playing with at a gig that Cooh is playing in a few weeks, its a dubstep ting so under BalkanSkys though, should be real interesing |
Marguerite Salsedo 10.06.2010 | Ran into this recently and I can't get it out of my head. Some damn heavy stuff... it's awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssHc2AMn8uM&fmt=18 |

When I was 17 it was all about g dub and clipz but now you would have to pay me to listen to anything they made. No offence. Tech is like the older mans jump up, high energy but has some soul. |
Adolf Hit 03.06.2010 | I do like a bit o dirty jump from time to time, Especially digging this so stoked it has finally come out, BigC you should check the Chasing Shadows remix as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWfVfs7ziPA |
Audrey Pinda 04.06.2010 | Yeah I used to be a huge jump-up guy before I really started getting into Dubstep, and one of my buddies still is really into jump up, so I hear a lot of the new stuff coming out still. There really seems to be a jungle/ragga resurgence in my area though, and I don't quite understand but I'm cool with it lol. |
Xavier Emanuels 04.06.2010 | Not big on jump up tbh, but hey, different strokes for different folks |
Audrey Pinda 03.06.2010 | Man. I love Original Sin. And can't wait to see Sigma drop the dirty all over this on Saturday. |
Tianna Laguerre 03.06.2010 | i actualy realy like the term half step... as autonomic is brand now, and nothing else really fits that well. btw have you heard about new producer Conrank? he has some sweet new releases. try dis> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKSVQQd1LYY |

Gilda Bousfield 02.06.2010 | I use Abstract elementz - abysmal depth as it has a nice little Tech house part. Or Hadouken - MAD (Phace remix) if u want it breaks style |
Xavier Emanuels 02.06.2010 | Alrighty kicking off some tracks that drop in bpm (or go half time) half way through the mix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTzxRq_j-lE Ill keep posting as i find more |

Xavier Emanuels 01.06.2010 | I been looking for more tracks that drop into electro house half way though, i know danny byrd has one out (cant remember off the top of my head what the track is called though) - anyone know any more ? |
Ranee Boome 01.06.2010 | There was a whole EP that Limewax released awhile back that was straight up halfstep (and yes, it's been called halfstep for quite awhile now), I believe Current Value did quite a bit of halfstep as well. There was a whole big phase where tons of producers were doing it. We've even got a halfstep tune out by Bishop awhile back |

However, we do have someone we work with that goes by NeurofunkGrid, that we send clips of most of our incoming tunes, and he posts them up on his youtube page. Can find him here: www.youtube.com/user/NeurofunkGrid Also, on the Breed comment, they've got some really great stuff out! We actually have a few artists that Ammo discovered, that have released on Breed, suchas DaVIP & Encode, which was their latest release I believe. (Vamanos & High Technology). Have another release incoming w/ DaVIP on our "Russian Roulette" EP, which also has artists Flame vs Paperclip, Nvader, and Hectix |
