What black slabs of wax (vinyl) have you bought this week?
Posted on: 10.10.2013 by Lawana Mileto
Just wanted to see what wax people had been spending their hard earned money on?

Myself, I picked up the new;

Delroy Edwards on LA Club Resource
Delroy Edwards vs Funkineven on Apron Records
Dungeon Meat/SE62 on My Love is Underground

Bugger it. Only meant to buy one thing....

Floating Points - Vacuum EP - Eglo

Lumigraph - The Yacht Cruiser EP - Mr Saturday Night

Palace - Dreamscape EP - Hot Haus

Traumprinz - Mothercave - Giegling

I was only after the Traumprinz as I got my fingers burnt when the Prince of Denmark album sold out. Wanted to get this early doors.

Thx. I've got it queued up in my car for when satellite radio isn't playing anything of interest, but I can't seem to keep my finger off the button for the Where Dancefloors Stand Still disc....and now the John Talabot DJ-Kicks disc. I have a feeling with some more time, the appreciation will come...just have to give it time.

Thanks! Motor City's definitely growing on me.

Also love finding old used stuff for $2/$3 a pop...

BTW, that John Talabot is a really nice mix CD for some downtempo stuff. Haven't listened to the records yet, but heard the selection on RA, and loved the songs.

I was a massive fan of the Vatican Shadow project since the very first release, was rabidly evangelising about it to whomever would listen - but the latest 'album' is some of his weakest material to date, I have to agree. I bought it whilst in a record-store on good faith/impulsivity, without having heard it, and it's definitely not as strong or evocative as his earlier work. To add insult to injury, he/Hospital Recs put out a follow-up EP about a WEEK after the LP release! With some even better reworks of its tracks and some other above-average stuff. Cheeky bast*rd! Never heard of a 2xLP release, I guess... definitely feel a bit burned on that one.

I also picked up an MMM release, Que Barbaro/Casio Dub, and Fiedel's Trinidad/Positron. Totally forgot about them as I haven't even played them once yet! But Positron is an absolute banger.

Some good stuff there. The Kupfer is the best of the bunch, IMO; I believe it's a fantastic record.
Got to be honest about the Vatican Shadows album - I've had it a few weeks now and I just can't get into it. I do find a lot of his stuff very hit and miss, though.

Haven't got any of the Sex Tags stuff, always meant to but just didnt pull the trigger. And haven't got that Kupfer one but is on the discogs wantlist.

I'll have to check the Objekt stuff, sounds up my street. And yeah Hessle Audio is a good stamp of approval, still need to pick up the latest Joe release. But as I'm on a vinyl ban they'll all have to wait, it's killing me and it's only been a few days.

And it's official: Houston, I have a problem. Talking record store digging with my buddy today which got me interested in checking out one of my local shops. I was looking for a couple things in particular that are old school, which of course they didn't have. But I did wind up with...

John Talabot - DJ-Kicks
Terry Lee Brown Jr - Side of the Shark
Bernard Badie Featuring Dajae - Train
N-Joi - Anthem
Jamie Anderson - Nite:Life 013
Kerri Chandler - Ozone EP
Motor City Drum Ensemble - The Revenge / grooveman spot - Looking Up to You
Boo Williams - Looney Chunes Volume 1 - Back to the Future

considering I was looking at some Theo Parrish stuff and MCDE's Raw Cuts #5 & 6, I guess it could have been a lot worse

Nice purchases there, most notably the Omar-S and Naples one's. Those two are fantastic!!

Got an order in on Juno, only a couple though;

Joge Zamacona/Ben Buitendijk - Mosaic Spit Series: Part One on Mosaic
Archie Hamilton/Hozoc Moss Co VA 1.1 on Moss Co
Ron Trent - Humans Drums & Machines on Electric Blue Germany

All three are definitely worth checking.

Noticed on Soundcloud new Moodymann album dropping on the 10th of December if I remember rightly, be quick on this one as with any of his stuff.

Also anyone recommend a good trolley dj bag?

I've just bought these. I'm in Vienna. Sitting at the breakfast table. In the hotel. I can look out the window on Central Euopean Imperial grandeur and I'm on an iPad buying scruffy analogue techno.

The GF is just staring at me.

We're off to the Prater in a minute to get our Third Man fix. She's going to throw me off the ferris wheel for this. I'd better do a Harry Lime and Disapear.

Congrats on the 1210s. Buying my 1200s way back in the mid nineties was still the best investment I've ever made. Wish I had the room to set them both up.
Man sounds like your having a good time over there!

Yeah man, loving the 1210's, wanted a pair for years, and finally a pair came up for sale locally so decided to go for em.

So payday today which is always nice so here's the list so far;

Professor Inc - Guidance & Protection on Phonogramme
Dario Zenker - Old D Tracks on Illian Tape
KMFH - The Boat Party Bonus on Wild Oats
Slow Life - We Are All on Slow Life
Nimbus Quartet - Later Lover on Lazare Hoche
Greg Beato - Who's The Licho In Charge Ovaa Here? on Apron
Iron Curtis / Leave pres SMPL on Black Key Records

Now to put in my juno order

Well, none of those four are even available for preorder yet - except for Beato one I guess. 'Forthcoming' would be a better word... Actually, the TX Connect one seems to have vanished from trace since I first looked into it. The rest should be out before Christmas I believe.

Have to admit, I was going to pass on the Eomac one but I love the cover - it's just so....I don't know; like one of those creepy Eastern European things we used to get on tv in the 80s. My mate's got Will Bankhead playing for Numbers this weekend (Joy Orbison too,) but I'm going to have to pass as I'm away on Sunday and I just can't afford it. Be a damn good set, I believe. Oh aye? Missed that bit of news. Any one good? The last Hawkes was a stormer. I see there is a LIES white label by TX Connect out a few months back. His DABJ release was one of the highpoints of the year for me. Doubt there's much chance of getting my hands on this one, though; i only discovered it's existence through Discogs.

On a related Rubadub tip, (Dan from DABJ is the Rubadub store manager after all,) their second own label release is out. Might be in town tomorrow for the first time in months so I'm going to try and pick it up from the shop. Acidy wonkiness - not bad. No idea who it's by. They're keeping that one a secret so I imagine it's someone big doing the anon act.

Been listening to the Kupfer/Vereker release on Russian Torrents today a few times. The two Kupfer tracks are so so good.

God. I Love House and Techno.
