I hoping it gets back online soon as there was some good info and advise on there but as I've found this community maybe i should leave it behind me ..... surely it cant be that hard to keep a site up & running or at least fix it within a few days.

Not sucking up or getting in a clique that reps each other or getting bad rep just cus you have a difference of opinion. Plus, you dont always get good rep for being helpful or useful which, as far as im concerned is the most important thing on a community . Just being funny or posting great pics or 100s of posts of OTT is nice and all but its hardly gonna change someones world.

Only need to be around here a few weeks to realise who helps, or who is a bit spikey or who you want to read/follow.

Its like i said in the thread about DJTT becoming like YouTube. Theres a hidden hand that guides this community . I dont believe any artificial conventions or features will add to the way the community works.

Its not perfect but its certainly not broke.
Pretty much sums it up perfectly.

You can add people to an ignore list now. Click on their name and go to profile, select userlists under their name and add to ignore list. Not sure that's exactly what you're looking for, but it may be close.

I've always thought Rep was a good idea. We've got a few members with several hundred posts that might not have a very good rep. It would have to be able to be modded though so we could make sure it wasn't abused.

DJF's reputation system has actually been written about in the NY Times as one of the more interesting and most successful ways to maintain civility on such an active board.

What are some things from over there that would make you guys feel more at home here? I don't expect everybody to stick around when they come back up, but we aim to please here so if there's a feature or something you miss let one of the mods know and we'll see if it's something we can implement over here.

thanks both of you

I honestly have more fun now than ever now, I used to never even make it to the club and now going out is about the music and friends and not getting messed up and being a evening mare to anyone around me.

Yeah I'm sure I was a major dick on djcommunity s a couple years ago up to maybe a year and a half ago. To be honest I had some major drug/alcohol problems and was pretty messed up constantly so I don't really remember much of what I did and that's not an excuse for my behavior I'm just throwing it out there because I honestly have little recollection of it. I tried signing up a few weeks ago believeing people would have forgotten about it but I guess I left a stronger legacy than I thought.

So, to any djcommunity users who were on there during the gerty/bateman era I apologize for how I acted- since getting sober I try not to act like that anymore anywhere including online.

No. The problem isn't pure DNS. My understanding was that the route to their IP address winds up pointing to nowhere significant for some reason. I have their IP address logged, and it doesn't go anywhere.

I'm going to make note of the IP when it gets back up.

but.., that will only get you to the web server. if they are using a hostname for the connection to the database server (likely), then it will probably also suffer from DNS issues.

I wonder how much advertisement revenue DJF has lost because the host can't stay up. I know they've been down now for at least 4 weeks with the last two outages. If I was the site owner, I'd look into legal action to make up for the lost revenue... I bet the host would start paying attention to DNS then. I assume it would also give them an out to any contract.

I bet that a simple letter from a lawyer would be enough (and not that expensive).
