So whatever happened to our request threads? Vinyl + CDJ thread and DJ gear modification thread.

Does it really take that long for the bosses, admins and mods to decide and put these matters into consideration?

Is this some kind of hush-hush job. Are people being gagged about it.

Or have i missed some vital information here cus it seems to be that he members of DJF are totally in he dark.

I dont get it.

Last couple times it went down there was an argument in the OT community that mods dont have to explain crap to members because we arnt paying for anything. I believe any explanation they would give would be in a thread that ends up on page 4 in 15mins so no would see it. Stickies were brought up and using FB but they must be stressed out or something....

If that's true, I'm amazed that nobody kept any kind of backup, especially given how unreliable the host was. Even if it was from 6 months ago or whatever, it's better than having to start fresh. Oh well. Maybe it will work out for the best as it means they can use the latest version of the community software and give it a fresh new look.

It does run smoothly. Trawling through community s to move threads would be a evening mare no matter how many mods we had.

Duplicate threads are ok if they are duplicates of threads that have totally disappeared in time or been closed naturally by being outdated (im not sure what the timescale is for auto-close on DJTT or even if we have it, i should check that).

Also, we dont need anymore mods at the moment. Ive been on community s where there are loads of mods and it leads to less cohesion.

And maybe old Serato threads in the General Subcommunity can be moved to Serato subcommunity , would prob prevent duplicate threads on the same topic while making that Serato category more interesting with more material?

I would suggest the same for any new Subcommunity s that may be created.

Any area that is not covered currently can be discussed in the General Forum. Most likely the traditional djing section will be added soon but i doubt the other suggestions will tbh. If a particular thread gets enough interest, we will certainly consider giving that its own community .
Take for example the serato community . DJTT is definitely more slanted toward the traktor side of things, but we got a lot of serato related posts in the general section. Thanks to Jesc we now have a dedicated serato community , and one less area i have to mod as thats jess's domain

+1

I'm all for diversifying this community , I feel like the current subcommunity s tend to focus too much on a certain type of stereotypical controller DJ and it attracts mostly that type of person to join and things can get myopic in here, I believe this place has grown enough that it can safely expand to other types of DJing and not lose its origins.

It will always have a digital DJing focus but I don't believe that means there shouldn't be a place that invites all these other discussions. I would love to see a lighting and PA community , mobile community , CDJ & Vinyl community , etc.

I'll take your call on the Batphone in the Batcave if your prefer:-)

I'm 90% club DJ and about 10% mobile. I pick up mobile gigs here and there mainly corp and school functions. I don't do weddings or kids parties.

I agree mobile is totally different from club DJ'ing. Mobile DJ's tend to be more multi genre and multi era with regards to music. There are also differences in gear s used. Mobile DJ tend to have more gear to worry about. Lighting, speakers, amps, displays for those video DJ's etc. Not to mention the way you market yourself as a club DJ is somewhat different from a mobile DJ. I also believe more mobile DJ's tend to embrace the controller market more so that club DJ's. Although, that is slowly changing. In that regards, I believe a separate community would be very beneficial.

Think of it this way, if you like hip hop, you won't really go to an electro club would you? I mean music is music right?....not so much.

Although i dont see Top40/Open Format Djing the same as Mobile, i mean my Top40 gigs include Dubstep/D&B/HipHop/Indie etc and can get pretty far removed from just playing Black Eyed Peas but...

Unless persuaded otherwise, im erring on a +1 to this.

I am both a mobile DJ as well as a club DJ.
the reason a separate mobile section is good is for the reasons you just mentioned. club DJ.s look down on the entire wedding type mobile DJ, and for the most part the mobile guys are understanding of why. club DJ's are artists. people pay cover charges to hear the style of a club DJ.
a wedding/mobile DJ is a whore that does whatever they are told. its a completely different attitude. giving us our own little section to hide in works well for everyone
