Xone: DB4- the official unofficial thread

(former thread title Xone: DB4- convince me not to sell off my possessions and drain my bank account)

I mean it's just a mixer, nothing I should sell my S4 and some other expensive possessions for and drain my bank account completely for... right?

I am having a hard time with this decision. I know it won't make me a better DJ, yet it gives me the urge to make irrational spending decisions. Please talk me out of it.

I just got back from Ultra and I'm pretty certain Dubfire was using his, his set was absolutely incredible.

Look at that grin, he definitely had a DB4 up there. I could hear the DB4 reverbs and delays he was using and it sounded sick.

I would be awesome if you could route a channel's output back into another channel and chain the FX units...

It's also twice the machine that the S4 is.

I actually agree with him. As long as the mixer isn't trash, I'd rather use almost anything they have than bring a mixer unless the booth was big enough to have 2 full DJ setups. If the mixer actually is trash

Honestly the DB4 would be less of a pain to bring to a club than an S4. It is light, smaller footprint, and comes with a nice padded shoulder bag.

What do you mean Savour? If you really wanted to you could lug a DB4 to shows, it's not that heavy

If you play out like me, wasting your money on things like this is pointless - you'll rarely come across it in a club set-up - all the magic you learn at home will be wasted.

At least with your S4 you can take it shows etc. Invest the money into other things, like promotional material to further your career.

If you don't play out...then yes, sell your parents if you need to and buy this badboy - it is divine.

The new firmware is dope, not sure if I would really want to control it with an ipad but whatever works. I ditched my ipad/traktor fx setup when I got the xone.
I still use an iPad on stage to be able to move away from behind the table to interact with the crowd. Also, my idea of integrating an iPad could allow to use 2 or more FX at the same time with multi-touch and motion capablilities... i guess like a wireless midi fighter 3D.

...Oh yah! Cudos on your rotary idea.

It would be great if the fx parameter names were displayed on the lcd screen somehow.. Theres so many great fx but sometimes i forget the parameters.. For example, if i choose masif delay, the lcd screen would show me that
Exp will control feedback
Adj will control freq
Time will control time

Obviously delay is easy to remember but the res, mod and dmg r where i could use the hints..

So after receiving the humbling Allen & Heath DB-4 late last week, we made a quick discovery. Our 12” Pro Mixer cover; part code DS-PC-DJM800 actually fits the DB-4 and DB-2 perfectly. As you well know our 12” Pro Mixer cover is one our founding covers originally designed for the DJM-800, however fits a range of mixers; Allen & Heath XONE DB-2, DB-4, 62, ,92 - Pioneer DJM-500/600/700/800/850 & Denon DN-X1100/1600/1700.

Cant believe of anything thats like ramp or tape delay.. But i do like the db4 pingpong and scatter delays.. If u turn them to a low time like 1/64, it might sound a little like ramp delay..

Ditto proaudiostar is great.. Fast drop shipping.. I believe i had mine 2 days after ordering with standard free shipping.

On another note - looks like decksaver just announced that the djm800 12" cover fits the db4.. Lol.. I actually ordered this a month ago when i put 2 and 2 together and figured it would fit. Cant believe it took them over a year to tell ppl about it lol

Thnx for confirming.. I get a lil confused with some of the technical stuff sometimes but now i get it. Thats cool that u can basically get a few variations on this fx. I do like the digital input version as it sounds like nice clean noise which was something i missed from the djm.

And thnx for repost of my fave mixer vid ever lol - can we have another vid of some other crazy undocumented use of db4?

That's the worst thing. The headphones are too quiet and have pretty poor sound quality. I was fine though, I had my HDJ-500s

The other DJ had to play cheese and commercial a lot of the time, so he was switching over to my channel instead. You should have seen the reaction when I played dead prez haha.
