The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?) Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead. We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already. Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade. With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB. Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!" If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles? No, kill your idols instead! There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past. How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep? Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are. There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing. Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us. Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996! | |

Thats key a, not being raped for internats, were trying to form somewhat of a collective and collaborate to try and sort international tours more cleverly and get costs down (and avoid assfuckery). Also working with Matt who runs DubTub & ThisWayUp agency in Ak and a stack of other guys from around NZ. I'm from Welly a. My mates (The Collective guys ^ ) run tings in the Tron & got several mates in Ak and of course Welly as well. Yeah bro should be down, I'll keep you updated. Prob start coming down there more often as well doing some stuff with Gus (getting him into Welly more also).. If you guys would be keen to colab on stuff as well let me know and we can prob sort something (getting you lot to welly etc). All the people I do stuff with so far are mates so we basically have a no cunts policy :] anyone who trys to cause shit and GTFO real fast. Ez |
Monet Yucel 12.08.2009 | Yeah I know those guys, Gus and George, I went in on the computer club gig with them. I'm from the Urban Terror Unit, we've been rinsing it down here for about 7 years now, played all round the show including Phat twice, promoted a few internationals but managed to not get down on our knees for gigs If you know what I mean. You're from Auckland aren't you? You might have met a guy called Rhyas up there, he does the Split radio show, he knows who I am. Anyway if you're gonna be commin down for a gig I will have to keep my ears to the tracks and pop in for a meet and greet. |

After the taster I'm hitting the decks at Bath St for some late nite rinsing, Bathies always packs out after the taster tours. Sick |
Adolf Hit 10.08.2009 | Im not familiar with kinetix or the VCO, but I met Nasty when I was playing down at a gig midian put on a few months ago, top dude, wicked set. I had a taster of a tune of his "Effortlessly", cant wait for it to release its one of my favourites at the moment. |
Tianna Laguerre 10.08.2009 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO-lYccnq1s Jussa another liquid choon i found the other day... nevertheless, it's beautiful. |
Ranee Boome 10.08.2009 | Hey since you're from NZ midifidler, are you familiar with KinetiX, Nasty G, or The VCO at all? |
Adolf Hit 09.08.2009 | Its a good week for me & D&B this week, caught SOM & Black Sun Empire on friday evening , and playing closing set after Concord Dawn on this friday evening . |

Adolf Hit 05.08.2009 | +1 on the hospital podcast |
Andriy Gavrysh 05.08.2009 | i already found a few good labels... nice idea, thanks, i'm gonna search for information like blogs on them really like your releases of brainfuzz and axiom btw, i like that ogonek type of d&b! you should get something from catacomb and rawtekk! |
Ranee Boome 05.08.2009 | Find a label with a sound that you like and subscribe to them / follow their progress however you're able. Most labels usually put out info a good amount of time before their incoming releases, and promote it through mixes, radio shows, etc. Like for Ammunition Recordings, I tell people to subscribe to our blog on myspace to be kept in the loop of what's going on since we always update our blog when we've got a new podcast up, release, features, etc. |
Andriy Gavrysh 05.08.2009 | yeah, i love liquid! i'm really into that... thanks for the hint - gonna subscribe right now hospital records (nearly) always means quality releases! any other hints how to find all that gems in the haystack called d&b music? |
Verona Fashbaugh 05.08.2009 | To be honest, usually the way I find tracks comes from digging through this thread. If I find something I like, I look for other tracks by that artist. Also I don't know if you're into liquid, but if you haven't already you should subscribe to Hospital Records' podcast |

Amada Brierley 05.08.2009 | good shout lambox! I want to see you play out.. come to the UK |
Verona Fashbaugh 05.08.2009 | This thread needs to make a triumphant return asap. I'm sure someone's already posted this track, but I fiend out this jam... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EEN2H1CXPU |

Btw if you ever need any artwork/web stuff done hit me up. Always keen to do music related stuff. (www.touchcastnext.com - thats my companies website which I also designed) ;] |
Ranee Boome 28.07.2009 | Nice man, where did he play at? We actually got him a gig in NZ through one of our m8's Damien that played there alongside him, as well as alongside The VCO, who does some work for Ammo also. Funny that you say so, we've got a tune called Nerdy Gerner incoming from em, and possibly a 2 tune EP as well. Unfortunately digital, we're still trying to get on a vinyl distributor, in speaks with Triple Vision at the moment. 1st piece of wax is gonna be Axiom on one side, and unconfirmed for the other side, but in speaks with Gridlok / Misha / Insideinfo - Kiro for the flip. Will keep you guys posted most def |

Adolf Hit 28.07.2009 | lol first time Ive heard deadmau5 mentioned round these parts, he produces some good tunes, but his style is so different I'm not sure why you would bring it up. He makes tunes which are a tad more accessible than say Noisia. He also hates DJ's |
Arcelia Rile 27.07.2009 | I'm not a fan of dnb or dub step all i know is Deadmau5 is far from anything dead personally i believe his music along with stuff like Arnej and others are the new wave of things in trance/house/electro. Styles like theirs are "the wave of the future" if you will. I don't believe any styles ever dead just more out of the spot light for a while. |

Ranee Boome 27.07.2009 | Bigup on the link to the dnb heads Kaon |
Virginia Ortiz 25.07.2009 | yea that is a sic/weird track. yo midian whens next grounded? and where the poster? |
Ryan Morales 24.07.2009 | Hes a seriously siic producer a. Ramadanman is also the biz, his release Blimey is rather sexual. Theres a bunch of similar producers making some fresh as fuck stuff.. not really dubstep anymore, kinda percussion and bass. Tribal, 2-Step vibes with heavy basslines. I love it. So much soul and depth. I'm somewhat over the excessive dubstep wobble to be honest. Untold, Ramadanman, Appleblim, Martyn, Panagea, TRG, even Jamie Vex'd new stuff. As well as of course Kode9, Cluekid, Chef, Loefah, Breakage & the rest of the Souljazz/Hyperdub crew. |
