The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?) Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead. We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already. Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade. With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB. Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!" If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles? No, kill your idols instead! There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past. How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep? Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are. There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing. Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us. Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996! | |
Ranee Boome 06.12.2010 | Not to take away from the amazind dubstep / dnb mashup but, latest here from Ammo Clips @: Buy Now @ Beatport *Copy + Paste Link in Some browsers* - https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/...n%20Recordings Buy Now @ JunoDownload Buy Now @ DogsOnAcid Buy Now @ TrackItDown Buy Now @ Chemical-Records Press: Normally when promoting a release, we'll tell you something to the extent of "Oh man this bassline, wompy goodness all over your face, great engineering, yeaaaaah!" So yeah... all that. We were previously reading a description on a release and someone commented, "Like we need a description rather than just listening to the tunes."... and we thought, hey, good point. So here's the facts: 1) Massive DJ / Producer support from some of the most respected names in the Drum & Bass circuit. (Optiv (C4C), Axiom, Blokhe4d, Bad Company, Uman, Maldini, Miss Redflower, and tons more) 2) Tried and proven on dance floors across the globe, these go over on a large scale, every single time. 3) Wompy goodness all over your face? Have a listen. sinior cliff 01.12.2010 | @ Mike - PFFFFFT @ Everyone else- Vital Signz is looking for DJs to fill timeslots for our monthly event called Sacred Sounds as well as several one offs and dnb stages at massives and undergrounds. Sacred Sounds is primarilly a liquid dnb evening with some minimal and deep, funky neuro. Our past lineups have included LAOS, Method One, Jo-S, Atlantic Connection, APX1, and CRS? to name a few. All DJs must be 18+ and eligible to work in the United States. Local to Southern California would be ideal. If you are interested, go ahead and toss me an email with the following: DNB Demo (Some Dubstep is OK, but a mix entirely of dubstep will be discarded) Resume detailing the shows you have played in the last 3 years Bio Links to press sites 3 professional references Thanks in advance! ez -D [email protected] |
