Got my S4 yesterday, had a shitload of problems with drivers/communication/etc.
After 14 hours of uninstalling and reinstalling and eventually formatting my c-drive and installing Windows 7 again, it finally worked

But then the left jogwheel was doing weird stuff, the signal was lost everytime I pressed the top of the jogwheel in. Eventually a mod on the NI community gave me a couple of tips to solve it, had to get the top of the jogwheel off and re-position it again. Then calibrated it and everything worked, although it was very tiring and frustrating

Anyway, here are some pics!

Yeh, i just love the adjustable brightness for on/off states on the X1. I'm sure it doesn't really affect the performance of the S4, or how awesome it must be to use!

Not all the buttons are backlight? I thought the S4 has a power cord and all the buttons light up, and only if you use USb then not all of them will light up?

You can't remove them, but if you go to a sign shop you can get some black vinyl circles cut to cover them up for just a few dollars I bet.

Its an option on preferences.

I was gonna post on this but i read that Rainer posted this at NI so ill retweet it kinda.

You can assign different functions to the jog wheels.

1. Goto Preferences/Traktor Kontrol S4
2. Change the function of the Load buttons by checking Jog Mode
3. Set the Jog Mode function either to FX or to Filter

Now the Load buttons on the S4 behave different:
a/ LED in load button off: pressing the platter and turning the jogwheel = normal scratching/seeking
b/ LED in load button is on: pressing the platter and turning the jogwheel eithter changes the filter parameter or the third fX parameter, depending on what you have configured
releasing the jogwheel plate resets the filter/the FX parameter

You can still load tracks with the load buttons by pressing Shift+Load

According to Karlos on the NI community s it's impossible. He also noted how it comes in very handy in a dark booth.

If you have a GC nearby and they have stock, I highly suggest you pick one up before Sunday as GC has a 10% coupon that is valid until that day. I used my 10% discount to help offset a purchase of GC's extended coverage so I'm covered for two years for anything except a theft.

Can't wait til I'm finished with work. Love you Guitar Center!!

The On-Stage Mixer Stand (got it from GC) is a perfect stand for the S4. You can angle it, and raise or lower it as you see fit. None of the front or rear jacks and controls are blocked either - solid.

Wow... you just made my day. I just Order this for $879 from GC in NYC with tax. This coupon saved me. Thank you so much.

I Have Ableton 8.2 running and using the S4 for audio output. I have the S4 the APC40 and a MPK49 all hooked up and working fine in ableton. I am going to start tinkering with some midi assignments for the S4 in ableton but not sure if it will work since the s4 is HID not MIDI but i assume it is sending some sort of signal so i should be able too... I am actually on a Windows XP box and have Windows 7 on my performance laptop.

There's actually one thing I'd like to know.

I see you have an APC40 besides the S4 and you're on Mac. Presumably, Ableton too I'm wondering how would it work if you output Ableton to the S4's Master Out channel and monitor to the S4's Headphone channel.

Ideally, i'd like to know if that would work fine with S4 + Maschine, but it should be almost the same if it's done with the S4 & Ableton - they'd both end up to the same CoreAudio set of channels.

If you ever feel like testing it, I'll be very glad to know how it goes.

P.S. Routing S4 to Ableton (or vice versa) through Soundflower should also be possible, I guess, but that means that S4 wouldn't be usable with timecode control when it comes.

Congratulations on your new gadget! Thanks for sharing with us.
