Also, sometimes its nice to have less buttons and just focus on smooth EQ tweaks. Good for learning your tunes and getting a feel for the different EQ ranges in each track.

Can someone tell me the power draw of the adapter? Size, etc? I'm believeing something like this would work if the z1 power socket will fit and is within power specs. Can't find them on NI's site.

Thanks!

tell us if you find something adequate..

It's cool striping it back and playing with just what you have in front of you.
Spent some time with just the Z1 and all you have is a filter and a Play/Pause button. It's fun and it's good to play about with the tracks and pay more attention to subtle EQing rather than whacking umpteen FX all over the place.

I have remapped it a little so that the Filter buttons are Low Kills. Makes sense to have them there with the EQ section and I have no need to change Filter type so they are better used and the Fliter knob has a centre indent anyway.

Its great for at home use, house parties, or messing about with traktor on the ipad. For gigging, I would def prefer an analog mixer and a couple midi controllers with an interface if I were to be modular. Most spots already have a mixer.

This argument is dumb and we should be working together to see this thing expanded using custom mappings and modifiers.

What you just said makes no sense whatsoever. In Traktor you've got gain controls for each channel, a separate autogain function, a limiter AND headroom. DISaS73R is quite right, internal mixing - if configured properly for the setup you're using - shits all over a DJM. And the difference is, Traktor's internal mixing mode is constantly IMPROVING; things like the addition of the Z ISO EQ curves and filter, and just general under the hood tweaks. To improve an external mixer, you pretty much have to go out and buy a new one, as firmware updates tend to be few and far between, and if you're using an ANALOG mixer, it'd require getting the soldering iron out.

I don't know where the whole "internal mixing mode sucks" myth came from; maybe it USED to be crap, but these days it's on a par with DJMs if not slightly better, and the difference between the Traktor IM and A&H's analog stuff is a matter of personal preference rather than quantifiable differences.

For me, the ONLY way the Z1 could be better is if it was a 4 channel mixer; but then again, I can just buy two of them for less than even a DJM350, let alone a DJM700.

Agreed, very silly.

I've owned a ton of high end gear and have played a ton of high end clubs. That said, I ordered a Z1 and can't wait to have it. Will I play a mega club with it? Prob not, but I will a have a whole lot of fun learning a new way to DJ. I learned how to DJ about 22 years ago. Gear like this makes me excited about djing in a new way. In the end it's not what gear you use, it's how you rock the show.

This thread has de-railed into a big flamey ball of flame, and it's only going to get worse. Everyone stop negging out, and lets carry on discussing the Z1.

I like how they gave it the gloss face so it still has that S4/S2 vibe when you sandwich it between the F1/X1

You mean louder environments where everyone turns up the volume so much that the kicks become distorted and even when I wear ear plugs it's too bloody loud? And I was rather referring to the EQ which is just poor on the 700.

I haven't used external mixing a lot, but Traktor's internal mixing shits on DJM 700 and that's not a low end mixer at all, so you can't say external mixing is better.

External mixing so much better than Traktor's crap internal mixer...

The whole point about MIDI gear is that its limitations are only that of the software you use it with; it's just a control surface, and I for one would much rather use one of these than an external mixer.

You need to have Traktor 2.6.2 installed for Z1 support.

Actually there is transport. Press MODE and CUE and that acts as a play/pause button (works In TPRO). I believe this feature will be implemented in the next app update.
Built for kids? Well its basically the mixer section of an S4 or Z2 so add and X1 or 2 and you something very capable.
Dont get why it takes skill away from a DJ. Its just a mixer. It does little else. The skill is still down to the DJ isnt it?

I've used one to 400 people with an F1 where I usually use an S4 and no-one was complaining. Its what you do with it that and what tunes you play that matters eh?

Sure its not the most intricate piece of kit. It is was it is.
I'm talking about the way it interacts with TDJ. I'm not dissing it. I really like the idea of it, but it does make me feel like an old phogey. Hit play on the iPad and slide the fader over. The app does all the work. "Get off my lawn."

Like I said, I'm interested in it, but its designed for kids with an iPad to be able to play at house parties for $220, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. With no 1/4" out, you don't even need to buy a pair of decent headphones.

I believe we all probably feel some sense conflict with all the new technology. On one hand, the portability and accessibility is great. The more kids that get interested in dance music and dj'ing, the better. On the other hand, technology is making it too damn easy.

I still might get one for ease of use, but it really is taking whatever skill was necassarily to dj IMO.

You missed the point. By a lot. Which is ironic considering you would get one based on reasoning that supports the point.

Not every piece of gear is destined, nor designed for Avicci at the club bruh. This is a piece of hardware that's targeted at their iOS app, for the sole purpose of convenience, not to replace Pio decks.

After an hour of trying to fix up a stand for the Z1 & X1 (the booth is high so I need them on an angle) I gave up and took the S4.

I'm having a little stand made on wednesday so next week will definitely be Z1 & X1 or F1.
I'd be scared to bring a new setup out, good idea to stick with old faithful. Per djranking s, my z1 ships tomorrow, I can't wait for my new toy.
