That depends... are you using the DJM effects or Traktor's?

To me, mixer FX are just utterly, UTTERLY pointless. There's nothing more irritating than being in a club and hearing the DJ using the flanger/filtersweep constantly.

EDIT: Hence why I'd rather use one of these than a DJM; I'm not having to waste space/weight carrying a 7kg, 12x16" box around with me just for 2 faders and 8 EQ knobs.

It's nice to see dedicated shift button. I'd map rotary knobs to deactivate EQ kill while adjusting bend volume and to kill certain band via shift - same with my MM-1 mapping.

EQ kills are nice, although personally I'd prefer push-pots with a center detent; turn the knobs normally to affect the EQ, then push down on them to immediately reset the knob to 0. The amount of times I've seen people over/under-shoot the center detent after doing a 4-bar bass kill when playing house.

It's the only thing I'm waiting for to ditch the CDJs. The Z1 will replace my S4 that I keep around just for the mobility. Home setup: DJM-2000 and bla bla bla; mobile setup: 2xZ1 + X1 + F1 + 2xP1 (or whatever they would call it if they release something like this) and I would be in heaven!

Audio definitely is. Not 100% sure about Midi though, need to confirm.

Worst case scenario, let's say it's not, the iOS software is developed by NI themselves and can develop their app "decode" their proprietary crap from Z2, Z1, S4, S2, etc....

Really nice. This is great for someone like me who travels and likes to Dj for friends. I can just throw this and my x1 in a bag and I don't have to have some crazy midi mapping to get the same functionality (I really only use two decks). Plus this probably does RCA out which mean I can hook up to. 3.5 mm input real easy with an adapter. Definitely will be getting this.

I am sure once they update the iPad and iPhone apps, you will be able to use the Z2 as well. there is no technical reason why it would not work, unless NI intentionally disables it and allows only the Z1 to function with the software.

Kontrol Z1 & Ipad = a complete setup?

its great for the ipad dj... and people who have gridded tracks and a x1 , f1...
doesnt do alot for the people with a proper mixer...

reminds me of djtechs controller...

So if you wanted a similar feeling to, say an S2, what would you use it in conjunction with? An X1? Isn't an X1 also a midi controller? I confusey.

this changes everything.... its a must have! this paired with an x1 and a midi fighter, is an unstoppable combo. i must say this REALLY puts the hurt on the midifighter mixer djranking s was planing.....

also this is pretty valuable tool for on the go producers, who just want a small 24/96 sound card that doubles as a mixer.. Genius move NI

it's just easier to keep your music all in one spot as opposed to having to worry about a storage limitation. if i have to limit myself to say 16gb or buy some crazy expensive ipad just to bring a decent amount of music it sucks. If I'm limited to 16gb that means I have to go into my library and make playlists for every single gig as opposed to have access to all my master playlists that are super organized already

I was just referring to the whole "it will be in every club comment" I agree it's not aimed for clubs,
Alphonso Deitchman

I believe the lack of MIDI transport controllers holds it back more than storage. An updated class compliant X1 would be a nice addition/accompaniment to the Z1.

It's not aimed at clubs.

The big thing holding the app back is lack of external storage though. Although, I'm not sure why I would ever need to bring more than a few gigs of music anywhere other than a wedding.

No, if you got it....it would say "We get it, not everyone uses midi controllers"

This is not revolutionary by any means. The shift that I see taking place is not so much the actual product, but the expansion of the iPad app.

I don't know what clubs you play at but there is almost no chance any club would buy one of these. It's definitely a cool as hell product but you won't see clubs adopting this as their installed gear.
