Each one can have control their own decks and pump out of a house mixer.) Z1 + X1 + Turntables or CDJ's + Laptop = Raise the roof. I just pre-ordered here on DJTT. I believe while the Z1 is not a game changer, it definitely serves as a multi-purpose device. I am looking forward to getting crafty on it this summer. That said, my gear library is growing...I feel the need to purge some electronics. |

Lately I've been just using the iPad and Traktor DJ and plugging into their house speakers, and it's been just as fun with none of the set up and transport issues. I miss seperate cueing and hardware control of the mixing though, so this looks like a really fun option for me. Just hoping it doesn't NEED separate power if we don't want to charge the iPad, bus power is still preferred for me. |
Samuel Stamaria 11.06.2013 | For little parties/small time slots this can be INSANELY amazing. Seriously takes away one of the gripes people had about dvs, the laptop and serato face! With my ipad mini and one of these things I could walk in ready to mix almost as compact as I do with my cd wallet!! |
Georgie Lukowiak 11.06.2013 | Z1 + F1 + X1 = super duper portable effective setup I like what NI did here! |

Right now I use a K2 and an F1 and it's great simple, easy setup. 3 decks and Fx on the K2 and one remix deck with the f1. Why I like this is, the soundcard for one, If anyone has used the soundcard on the K2 knows it's soooo quiet. you have to crank the gain on any mixer you plug into.(I have plug it into djm-800/900, A&H 42/92) and no, it's not the cables. Sure I could buy a better soundcard, but this gives me a better soundcard and an extra midi controller. With the Z1 I can use it for 2 decks, the k2 for 1 deck, loops, fxs, cues and the f1 still doing it's thing. I just wish it was bus powered, but I guess it needs it's own power to charge the Ipad. As for sound quality with internal mixing, you have to be on a SUPER nice system to tell any difference, and most raves / clubs around here don't have that kind of quality and I would believe is the same story other places too. If i ever get newer ipad, this could be cool for that for small house parties, but I'm in no rush for a newer ipad so. |

However the functionality of it just isn't fully enough for me to jump on board with it. As people have also mentioned traktor's quality isn't exactly the best. I mean I'm not going to compare it to a DJM2000, or Xone, but the vu's, gain, and volume overall on the s4/s2 were awful, the headphone volume was always really low. I personally would also still stick with a K2, the use out of that could be the only thing you need to carry if you wanted. |

Latoria Kavulich 11.06.2013 | i use the 3d for the remix decks, i just don't use them enough to justify buying a dedicated controller for them. tbh i only use them to launch jingles for my radio show at the moment. |
Latoria Kavulich 11.06.2013 | fader needs to be on the side, no need for 3 crossfaders if they bought 2 and have a Z1 eh |

Latoria Kavulich 11.06.2013 | Dont get me wrong this Z1 looks badass, but just because its new and shiny doesn't mean you NEED it eh. We see more and more guys buying new kit and it just gathers dust on the desk because they didn't believe how to implement it in their own setup before buying. (i'm looking at you Mr. F1) For me, a real mixer and 2 X1's is still the perfect setup. |
Alphonso Deitchman 11.06.2013 | I'm happy with my VCM 100 for my portable setup. It has way more controls, amazing build quality, and I got it for about half the price of the Z1. Only thing that's missing is TDJ's generic MIDI support.. |
