Traktor Karlos, however I'm not sure how I'm going to map the beast.
I'm used to 1d & 2d that I've mapped to have full direct controls over 4 decks and 4 fx units. So never occured to me to work with layers, mainly because most of the time I may have 3 decks in use at one time.
The number of extra faders & knobs on the D(s) allowed me to have direct access to fx combos or specific set-ups/ direct access. I'll probably miss those controls.
Same I'll miss the above rank of endless encoders/push buttons that were my direct controls over loops for the 4 decks.
I'll probably start with mappings for the central/mixer part and the corresponding leds/vu meters. I've 'planned' (big word) to use for example the top two ranks of push-buttons to act for the first row as low-kills and the second rank a bit like the djm800 to specifiy the mode for the first rank of knobs (filters/gain/key...and something else probably I didn't decided yet). The leds next to those buttons would come handy to check what's going on. The "Fx units on" for decks would go elsewhere.
I may also use the push-button labelled split cue (a feature which I usually don't really use) to enter a modifier mode so the mentioned top two ranks of push buttons (8 in total) would enter hotcue mode.
Well, the number of possibilities are quite endless but I need a plan. I know also that a definitive mapping would take some weeks/months after testing in actual use.
I may have a look at mixarchitekt mapping to steal ideas (or to understand how it is done, mappings layers and modifiers could get me insane).

I've ordered from HTFR.
Anyway I've a tracking number and a carrier site that's just saying it doesn't now the parcel so...
I may have to be patient a little longer. Probably will receive it Wednesday (tomorrow if I'm very lucky) or Thursday or...one other f%

the dx is as complicated to map for traktor in direct relationship to your ability to handle traktor's midi mapping methodology. it's not that much different for any other device.

if it's too much of a challenge to get the bi-directional stuff going or you're not excited about mapping over a hundred midi parameters, you can always use my map once we're able to put it back on line...

on certain levels, it has been a bit easier to organize since you can map each midi layer of the dx as a separate device in traktor. this also extends the use of modifiers, so you're not limited to a single set for the entire device. each layer has it's own set, which makes all sorts of things possible.

from a use perspective, one area the dx is aimed at is as a replacement for carrying around 4 cdjs, a mixer, and an effects box. if you pick up one of the incredibly nice mono dj bags, you can fit everything you need to perform in it (dx, cpu, cables, headphones, etc), and even get it onto a plane as a carry on. i just did that from bkk to the uk and back.

it is very possible to arrive at a house party and connect it to the sound system, or in a club situation - go into a free input of the house mixer.

as for delivery, be patient. they are being built as you read this...

Was at my local A&H dealer today, they say the DX is slated for a May release. Anybody heard any different?

Unless they are self-powered speakers I'm afraid you need an amplifier in between.

So the ever itching question is, will this be a PITA to map for traktor?... Im def interested of going to this route, I was gonna get 2 cdj's and TSP, but I got TP now with RMX and X1. The only reason why I wanna change is that, the RMX dont have the reputation of being a "brand name", which I dont really give a fuk but just the DX has more features and for me less to carry to a gig...

I guess the pre-production models arent covered by NDA but its cool if you can share the knowledge.

well, i have a dx and have been showing it all over the place. lots of people in asia/oceana have had a bunch of hands on experience with it using the 4 deck version of itch and traktor pro at clinics we've been doing since december.

my dx is a pre-production unit that was just updated to the full production spec at the allen & heath factory last week. it's sweet.

as for functionality and the like, i've posted a lot on the topic already, but the basics have been stated and still remain - multi channel audio interface, 5 channels of midi control across 3 layers, bi-directional communication with led's, you have to have a computer connected to pass audio through it (except for the mini-plug di), etc.

the main point to digest is that it's not a mixer and strictly an audio interface and midi controller. even the channel meters require a level to midi cc conversion for them to bounce...

if there are any other questions, just ask...

I dont believe so. Anyone i know who has a DX at the moment is bound by a heavy NDA that prevents them from even telling people they have a DX nevermind saying anything about its functionality.

back to the DX, the final product that's being shipped is incredibly nice - the bumpers on the corners are sort of rubberized and the brushed aluminum buttons look great. i just saw them being built in the factory last week...
So what version is the one you're using? any differences, pics maybe

so, lets pretend i have a dx and play alone @ a party. there isn't really any reason to have a mixer if i'm the only dj, right?

I will, I'm kind of "MIDI-moron" I can map some easy controls like buttons and stuff but I don't see myself geting a "MIDI headache" doing modifiers and such, I just want to play the music.

The Asian Rep for A&H has been making Traktor templates for the DX already. I believe he can't post them up until it gets released. He had them up before though.

I wouldnt worry about that. It works just great with Traktor, as i keep saying.
Dont need anyone to make anything else. If you like the DX and want to use it with Traktor, do it.

American Audio's 4 decks controller would come with a specific version of Traktor as a bundle.

That's what really caught my eye on this item. I am still looking/planning on getting a MIDI controller. And this might be worth the extra month or two wait if I can convince a friend to get one as well.

Any thoughts on that aspect of this controller? A&H are well known to make a quality product, and this one has my eyes as a possibility at the moment because of the very fact of being able to duo a set seamlessly.
sounds very similar to what serato/rane is doing with the TTM 68.. its good to see all this collaboration going on.. alot less headaches for future dj's

ive seen a demo of the dx just now singapore time as tim(mixarchitekt) a representative from allen heath in asia region did a demo showcase of the dx and i can say that the controller itself is well built but theres still bugs for the 4 deck serato itch and i guess thats the reason why hopefully it would be release which tim says might be in march. the dx itself is only a midi controller with an extra audio input. its not an analog mixer by itself and u cant use the mixer without plugin it into the usb slot. at least its a good improvement on serato's side to have 4 deck controls plus itch finally now have effects in it. but personally i find traktor is still a better 4 decks software and have better effects capabilities than itch. surprisingly the dx is slightly heavy cos of the metal chasis. the sucky thing bout the dx is that at the moment certain leds on the dx have to be mapped out if im not wrong in serato or issit traktor, cant remember. but in my opinion id rather save up and get a 4d rather than the dx.

Looks like they changed the soft rubber buttons to metal! That was my only grip with this controller. Looking forward to it's release.

To Kai: Lol! No man I dont have six arms or alot of money. The two CDjs can be hooked up to channels 2 and 3 on the DX so I could still beatmatch with turntables. And with the new ableton serato collab Im planning on song made from clips fed into channels 1 and another song Im making with clips being fed into channel four.

I've pre-ordered mine. After being at the BPM show in October and getting a full run down from Richard at A&H plus getting a play around with the unit even though it was still a prototype and the software was in beta. I loved the feel of the unit. It ain't plastic and doesn't feel cheap by any means. I currently have the Vestax TR-1 which I'm now going to sell when my dx arrives.

fable: you're going to be utilizing 6 decks while simultaneously launching clips / controlling fx with an apc20? mebelieves someone has more money than sense...or 6 arms.

Mmm I can just see it now- Serato Itch + Xone Dx + 2 CDj 900 or 2000's + Akai apc20 with the new ableton integration = immense joy! Lol...
