That's the hipster bit right there, in bold. It's not "new and fresh", it's a 70s style track. Saying that it's groundbreaking in ANY way is what hipsters do.

Daft Punk "We wanted to do what we used to do with machines and samplers," he explains, "but with people."

Pretty much exactly what I was saying earlier about them wanting make "songs" with a band rather than sampling a band to make tracks.

So far I'm pretty excited. I have always enjoyed their sound, and music. Its music that I both really enjoy listening to and playing out. I mean sometimes there are songs that you really can only listen to and can never play out, and there are other songs that are rager rager songs, but I can't sit down and enjoy will having coffee in the morning. I don't know if this makes any sense. I feel they are approaching that kinda of music.

Well, I'm just glad that the artists they're collaborating with on this release have been making timeless dance music for years, and they're not just reaching out to the Beatport Top 10.

I really loved Homework and its heavier sound compared to the following two releases. I still enjoyed them but I just wished there was a bit more thump to them. I'm not expecting them to change the sound of dance music forever with this album, I just want quality tunes.

But I don't care about that.

I bought 'Homework' on the day it came out.
I saw them live.
I DJ'd for their record company at the regional album launch for 'Alive'.
I ran and e-competition for their promotion company and I gave away 20 pairs of tickets for their gig at the O2 Fest in Leeds.
Ive got a bike with turn up handle bars.
and my dads the King of Siam.

I am far from a hipster. I am a genuine fan.

(all of the above is true apart from the bike and the king bit)

...and I totally acknowledge that but you cannot level the 'hipster' tag at everyone. You have no basis for it. Just like I have no basis to say that you are trying to be cool by saying you don't like them (so I won't say it). Not liking something is ok, we can get along just fine, but don't assume to know why others 'do' like something.

The thing with this new Daft Punk album (and Daft Punk in general) is that you cannot like them without someone calling you a "hipster". I have read the same crap on Facebook this week. Equally, you cannot 'dislike' them without someone claiming you are trying to be 'too school for cool'.
I'm more than aware that they are a 'cool band' to be seen to be into. This makes them both cool and uncool at the same time. This happens to artists that become legendary whilst they are still going (Nirvana for instance).
Nail on the head. I used to get laughed at for liking Daft Punk at school because it wasn't Wigan Pier bounce yet wasn't alt rock/punk. Now, everyone and their dog is into them and people are like "Yeah man I liked em since their first single 'Around the World'" and I'm all "Grrrr" and what not.

Man I love Pharrell.

Well based on this thread it seems like liking Daft Punk is the "in" thing right now. Apparently people can't say a single bad word against them without getting bitched at, kinda like Beats headphones and Apple. Therefore, hipsters.

Sounds like Daft Punk with Niles Rodgers on guitar which is exactly what it is.

I don't believe that Daft Punk will have moved on much with this album other than to have written more actual 'songs'. Sounds like it's gonna be much more of band kinda affair and as a guitar player myself, that's only a good thing.

I also believe that this album might be a little bit to "middle of the road" for many especially those expecting a remake of "Homework" or some mental experiment in electronica.

I absolutely love The Neptunes stuff, cannot believe they teamed up with Pharrell for this. My boner just went triple platinum.

Exactly the same. First time I read it I giggled a bit, but for some reason the lyric section just blew my mind. I believe it's because even the songs you don't believe are repetitive, ARE repetitive, you just don't realise till you see it like that.
