Let the others know your setup here:

What kind of computer and cable did you use? Any specific steps you found helpful?

Thanks for sharing!

And just HOW do you use that cable then?

Can you explain?

Did you use the adapter kit provided here with that cable or?

upgraded my firmware today.
running vista and a dynex serial to usb cable. It didnt work the first couple times but i followed Andyc's steps and it worked first shot.
•make sure you have the USB cable disconnected.
•Attach the firmware PCB to the mother board
•connect the serial cable to the computer and to the firmware PCB
•connect the USB (for power) to controller and computer
•now turn on the vci-100 (it should be in boot mode)
•press program flash

I purchased a $4 serial to serial ext cable and the firmware upgrade kit. I used an old machine with Windows XP installed and Renesas 4.02
The first kit I got from DJTT was defective but they repsonded immediately and sent me another kit (at no charge) and then the install went flawlessly.

My advice: use a serial to serial cable and if you are in Los Angeles CA and still having problems I can help!!

thanks DJTT!!

Success here.

After struggling for ages with a null modem cable, a straight through serial cable worked perfectly. For those in the UK maplin part no L67BT is what I used.

The videos are top drawer and make the process dead easy.

With the new firmware and the overlay, the VCI-100 feels like a totally different device!

thanks! after dj-ing for almost 20 years, i've finally made the move to digital. i've been fortunate to have been able to lug my headphones and crates all over the world and spin at some of the big venues here in nyc. so far, digital makes things slightly easier.

the macbook, traktor scratch pro and the vci-100 (because of this site) is where i've started. i've been able to do some amazing things and haven't missed my usual 3 turntable setup. after upgrading my vci's firmware and faceplate i've spent 15 hours straight over the past two days 'playing' with the new gear. amazing stuff.

now, if i can only figure a quick and easy way to digitize these 5,000 records and acetates i have. (yes, i said 'acetates' -- metal records given to certain djs before the vinyl version was pressed for 'regular' djs)

this site is great and i'll try to contribute where i can. you guys have built a pretty nice community here.

i received my 1.3 firmware kit yesterday, and have a successfully upgraded vci-100 today!

for this upgrade, i used a dell inspiron 1100 laptop running windoze xp. i also used a USB-to-Serial adapter (google the model #: WBT-3030A) -- it's a little bulky, but it was $10 and it worked. i also downloaded the firmware updating software as shown in the upgrade video here. i switched the com port setting in the software from COM3 to COM4, and 43 seconds later my firmware was successfully upgraded.

way to go, guys!

I used my Dell XPS 1530 running vista and the usb to Serial adaptor on monoprice.com. It worked on my first try. Don't forget to attach the adaptor to the flashkit before snapping it on the pcb!

I've joined the 1.3 firmware club after upgrading earlier this week. I must admit I've noticed a number of improvements to my VCI 100 as a result of the upgrade such as my jogwheels seem more responsive and the sound from my speakers seem richer (but I may be imagining this). I still need to get used to the new features though as after the upgrade the layout of the buttons change dramaticaly. But to VCI 100 owners contemplating upgrading I would urge you to just go ahead and do it. Now bring on 1.4 firmware!

Yup.. Vestax team makes me crazy too. 1.3 really rocks. Dunno wtf they say it is not backed. I guess they worry about you can break the device trying to disassemble it to update firmware.. but still I guess everyone disassembled his pc to replace/upgrade parts and did't break it)) If you did - stay away)) Otherwise, if your arms are at the right place do not waste time believeing - go and upgrade to 1.3

And I read this on the official Vestax community : "Djranking s firmware is third party and not backed by Vestax. Vestax has Tracktor tks updates here
http://www.vestax.com/v/info/support/support.html Other then that it is third party. And for changing any of the stock vci100's features will void the warranty so we don't recommend this." (http://community .vestaxpro.com/phpBB3/vi....php?f=17&t=77)

So if I don't want to update my vci does a tks file help?

Thanx a lot
Nick
These kind of statements from Vestax actually pisses me off quite a bit, as they are the ones making a product with a known issue (ramp up issue) and there's no way whatsoever that a customer like me can get that fixed through the official channels.

Seriously pissed right now...

worked like a charm!
used an old desktop with native com ports. Also used a laptop to power using usb (usb power on desktop is unstable, so flashed using desktop's com, powered using laptop's usb).
OS: windows xp sp2

Hi Nick,
The tks (now Tsi in TPro) only changes how the software (traktor pro) interprets the data your midi controller sends, not how what data the midi controller will send.

Assides from adding compatibility with the special features of the Ean Golden TSi one of the main advantages of the firmware upgrade is that it fixes a number of issues with the v1.1 firmware.

Vestax did make the 1.2 firmware which fixed these bugs available to service centers, but many customer live far away from the approved service centers and it was not covered under the warranty, meaning that while having it upgraded at a service center does not void the warranty, you still have to pay for the upgrade, some reports suggested prices over 100 USD.

Companies not supporting anything which requires the customer to open an electronic device is standard procedure. Their assertion the DJTT firmware is third party and not supported by them does not speak for the quality of the firmware ( it was modified soley by Vestax engineers) nor for the quality of our product.

It is stipulated to avoid them having to bare any cost associated with supporting the modifications.

I used to tutorial vid and it was done in a jiffy! Thanks a lot for all the info on the community and making such a clear video of the upgrade process! it's so bloody nice to not have that ramp up thing anymore, since I was so stupid to actually purchase my vci as soon as it was on the market here.

Now let's play a bit with the tpro 2.2 functions

I found a big reason I was having problems was cause the virtual port was the same as the actual ports. So when I installed the drivers it was trying to install Port 4 when there already was a Port 4 and that prevented everything from working.

So I changed the existing Port 4 to Port 5, let the drivers install and then everything worked fine.

Hope that makes sense.

I can't get my firmware to update. I get the..

Attempting 4800

Error No 15024: Boot failed

It feels like i wasted my money on this cable and firmware kit. I have tried different usb ports, different speeds. Im on windows xp and im using a serial to usb. Everyones solution to this i have seen is use another usb to serial or another computer. I don't have the money to be going out and buying another one of these cables and this is the only computer I have, So what do i do?

Finally I dared to upgrade my firmware to 1.3

I have to say, the whole progress went much smoother than I thought

I used:

- Digitus USB to Serial Converter
- a Mac Pro (2008)
- Windows XP on VMWare Fusion on OS X 10.5.7
- a serial cable (the converter itself has no cable attached to it)

Apart from installing the newest drivers from their website, I had NO other settings to be made with the adapter, left everything on default. Upgrade went 100% OK it seems, no hassle - kudos to DJTT!

Thanks for the answer!
So if I got it right you just upgrade it via the plate and the remove all the stuff and leave it like it was, right?
Could there be any problems if I try the vci with Virtual DJ (cause I work with both programs, mostly Traktor)?

Hey guys!
With the new tsi file ready and the overlays in the store I was believeing about buying the firmware upgrade kit for my 1.2 vci. But I've got some questions for you:
1. Does the plate stay in the vci after the whole process?
2. In addition to that do you need the serial to usb cable afterwards or do you connect the vci to the pc via the normal cable?
3. I bought my vci from Greece. Could there be any problems, because of the european edition?

Thanks a lot for your time!!

Hi thanks for your response, If you mean the firmware plate , yes after I hit disconnect, and turned the vci power off and then I took off the plate. The power switch was off on the middle and on to the right and there were no lights at all when I turned the vci back on .The messages in red like I mentioned , are those ok to have before the update?

Hey Sammyz,

Did you remove the update PCB from the VCI after the update?
Is the power switch on the back of the VCI in the correct position?
Do any leds light up when you plug the VCI in?

Did this about 3 weeks ago. Bought a USB to Serial cable from Frys for 15 bux. I have a Vista64 tablet that I use for Djing and I never want to use it for anything else, so I used my XP laptop to upgrade. Kept getting error messages in the middle of the update(sorry I forgot the error#). After several failed attempts, my last resort was to try with my tablet. With the first try it successfully upgraded the firmware. Bought the overlay, but I believe my custom TSI works better for my needs. I have the black VCI-100, so it naturally looks pimp. I'm just glad I have that one button working right instead of triggering the effect buttons also.

I just finished upgrading my firmware from 1.1 to 1.3. Below is my setup:
- Dell XPS M1530 laptop running Windows Vista 32-bit
- USB to Serial cable (purchased on eBay for $2.99 incl shipping)

I was able to flash the firmware on the first try, without any problems whatsoever. Thanks, Ean and the DJTT community!

Hey,

So I just got the firmware upgrade and actually bought a $35 dollar serial to usb (actually had problems with it, but found a vista app that recognized the cord that i bought), but have loaded the firmware successfully. As i side note i am relatively new at mapping and may have made a mistake. I would like to know if accidently flashing an improper file would pose a problem? more along the lines of flashing the .tsi and the .tsk onto it..... is there a way to set to default or does reinstalling the firmware just wipe over it?

I used the Radio Shack USB-A Serial Cable that was recommended in the community . When I ran the software I got a "Error No 15024: Boot failed". I read over the FAQ Common Problems section of the community and followed the directions for the USB to Serial troubleshooting section and realized I made the silly mistake of forgetting to download the driver on the cable--I had no clue that cables had drivers too. Once I did that and changed my port number to 4 (before it was on three) everything worked great.
Thanks for all the great information, tutorials, and firmware!!!
