Leeanna Ayla 01.07.2010 | Which blue LED's? The ones under the jog wheel or are there blue LED's on the Audio 2? |
Flavia Brule 01.07.2010 | Hi, I have a macbook pro, traktor pro 1.2.6, audio dj 2, VCI 100. I upgraded to version 1.3, works fine, but there are two things that don't work. 1. blue LEDs don't work 2. when active function loop, sync out Sorry for my bad English, I hope it is able to explain Thanks for the reply |
Daphne Almony 22.04.2010 | new home mod SE family member! I've had a VCI-100 1.2 (silver) for just under a year. Last month I ordered my overlay and upgrade kit. Received the goods last week...if you're in the UK customs charges are |
Randal Biza 22.04.2010 | I successfully upgraded my firmware using a native install of Windows on a Dell laptop and a USB to Serial cable. In order to make it work, I had to follow the DJTT instructions on "using a USB to serial cable" I also had to change the USB-serial's COM port to 3. My computer said this would be a conflict, but it worked anyway. I tried it because the USB-Serial cable was not working on COM port 11. I encountered some trouble removing the cable harness in order to attach the DJTT firmware upgrader adapter. I was reeeeally paranoid of damaging the VCI. At first I tried attaching the DJTT adapter without removing the harness, but that didn't work. Eventually I just gritted my teeth and wiggled that damn thing until it came off. It was attached quite tightly! I was very relieved when it came off without damaging anything else. Now I'm upgraded to FW 1.3, and the added functionality is totally worth it. |
Siu Krimmer 19.04.2010 | I got it done on the first try. Im running on windows 7 and the best way to go is to use a serial to serial wire. The Serial to USB wire is a PITA!!! |
Siobhan Steinhart 17.04.2010 | Followed the video instructions and got it on 1st try (just had to try different COM ports until I got the right one, COM4 in my case). I was on XP SP2 and used a Rosewill 2-port Serial PCI adapter model RC-301 and a DB-9 M/F serial cable. WooHoo!!! |
Elnora Wisegarver 11.04.2010 | I have an older pc that was 0sitting in my garage and it had a serial port found the male to female cable at radio shack worked like a charm. Now if i can get the tsi to work ill be happy |
Elna Swienton 02.04.2010 | Very pleased and relieved. Have successfully upgraded firmware using Macbook Pro, Parallels 5 and USB to serial cable. BIG thanks to Alex.Kitsch (see his post) for the necessary instructions. I too ran into the exact same difficulties, but his steps proved to be the answer. By following EanGolden's video and using Alex's help, Mac is possible! |
Elnora Wisegarver 13.03.2010 | wow when are they coming back in stock cant wait (sitting here biteing nails to a bloody stump) |
Alishia Horbal 10.03.2010 | followed the video, on a win xp sp2 with serial cable , no problem |
Charlott Podell 09.03.2010 | Got it to work on my first try! Macbook Pro 10.6.2 Monoprice USB -> Serial Prolific USB -> Serial driver (http://www.prolific.com.tw/Eng/downloads.asp?ID=31) WMware Fusion (Windows XP) 1. Install Prolific Driver on Windows side 2. Plug in USB -> Serial cable 3. Run Device Manager and make sure COM3 appears 4. Connect USB -> Serial cable to FW unit 5. Connect another USB to VCI-100 for power 6. Turn on VCI-100 7. Run the Renesas Firmware Flasher, make sure to select COM3 8. Success! Imported VCI Mapping 3_4 also, and works flawlessly. Very happy with DJTT. |
Cedric Ojha 04.03.2010 | Aberdeen? Not usually up that way but if I had a reason to I probably would get me a residency up there as well and I'll be up lol |

I actually had the serial cable attached to the flash module and plugged into my VCI before I plugged in USB power and switched it on, not sure if that made any difference at all though. Flash process worked perfectly first time and the firmware has clearly changed as before when i turned it on I would only get lights on the transport controls but now I get them all over the place! Thanks to DJTT for the kit and guidance, I am well pleased to have gone from v1.old to the newest version in one fell swoop, looking forward to rocking out with it later toevening . Anyone in Scotland needs help with this then let me know! |
Cedric Ojha 03.03.2010 | I upgraded my vci using a macbook pro, usb to serial cable. Worked like a charm, needed some extra tweaks in the flashing software but apart from that all is working fine apart from my right jog wheel sends out extra midi stop messages? |
Lanelle Crumble 26.02.2010 | First time succes upgrading to firmware 1.3 Used a HQ USB 2.0 RS232 cable (installed with software), which made a com-port from my usb. Running Windows Vista btw. Thanks people. Nick |
Nelia Bowders 01.01.2010 | Had a couple issues with the USB to Serial cable, so I used a female/male Serial cable and everything worked on the first try! Only issue I'm having now is that the right jog wheel won't send the MIDI CC, but the touch works just fine. Did I tug on one of the cables a little too hard? |
Alma Dilbone 25.12.2009 | Thank you so much for the upgrade kit. I was successful today. I used a USB-serial cable first but it didn't work so I bought a straight serial cable today and it worked just fine. I am Japanese and living in Japan but I wonder why vestax hasn't fixed this bug for the customers. I searched for this bug on the internet but none of other Japanese mentioned about it. Hmm... I didn't contact vestax, though. I thought upgrading using your kit would be fun to do by myself. Thank you so much for your effort and inspiration. I wrote about your web site on my blog in Japanese. I hope you get more traffic from Japan! http://disdj.wordpress.com/ |
Kesha Isabella 25.11.2009 | So, I'm upgraded now which is 'yay'. Kinda curious in terms of the firmware if this is just stock VCI 3.0 firmware or there's been mods to it? |
Lonna Steede 25.11.2009 | After upgrading to 1.3, everything works fine. But now, the original buttons "vinyl mode" and "sync" behave different for deck A and deck B. Is this a bug or a feature? |
Tonya Lende 04.11.2009 | yesses! how long will it takes to ship to germany? |
Sheba Pachman 04.11.2009 | did you send the midiFighters too???? |
Adolf Hit 03.11.2009 | They will be in stock in the time it takes for them to ship from NZ to the US, I sent them to Ean today |
Tonya Lende 03.11.2009 | i need the fimrware 1.3 why it's out of stock so long? pleeeeeeease |
Winston Mazeika 28.10.2009 | THE CAKE IS NOT A LIE! I did it. I finally did it. My baby is 1.3 years old now :P I may be the role model of how it was suggested that we don't do this, but I managed to update the VCI using a Mac, VMWare Fusion and a USB to Serial adapter. I had a lot of headaches along the way but here I am, ready to tell of the things I learnt the hard way so that you don't have to. Problem 1 (in chronological order): Rensanse Flash Development Kit software doesn't give you an option of selecting the right (or in my case ANY) COM port. Fix: Ensure you have the right driver. The cable I got along with the upgrade kit I borrowed from Ciar2001 (as the two I was sent were most likely lost in the post due to the damned postal strike) didn't come with a driver. I tried many including the Prolific USB-Serial driver and a bucketload of others but the cable was not being recognized properly. It still gave "Error 10" under the Device Manager in windows (it had a little yellow circle with an exclamation mark). Somehow I stumbled across this file and it fixed it for me, maybe it'll work for you as well. Download driver here Problem 2: Finally got it working fine, assigned it to COM port 6, hook everything up run Program Flash but get "Time Out Error 15005" in Renesans Flash Development Kit (FSD from now on) Fix: I read that you had to put a flow control in place as the USB was too fast for the serial interface etc. So go to C:\Program Files\Renesas\FDT4.02 and run FDTAdvanceSetup, click "Configure Serial Port", tick the box that says "Enable serial port delay fix" and enter 1000 as the delay value then click OK and close it. Those were the two hinderances I had which may not seem much, but just that driver hunting took me at least 3 hours. But it was worth the trouble for that sweet, sweet, smexy 4th FX button |
Herlinda Koep 28.10.2009 | HELP! i believe mine updated did all the steps and it said complete once it was done, i can now use the foruth fx knob in both a mode an b mode without it turning on the cue buttons, Does this mean that my unit is upgraded?? |
Dennis Stanislawski 26.10.2009 | So I got busted down an old VCI-100 that wasn't being used but it's the original firmware. Any idea when they may be back in stock? Or maybe a really generous person might be able to sell me theirs? I'm not too sure how to make a custom cable and what not. If someone has a good link to some instructions for an upgrade without the upgrade kit, I'd be game to try it out. I'm fairly handy with a solder gun. |
Beatris Kratzer 08.10.2009 | Finally managed to flash it. Using old laptop with serial port & serial 9pin - 9pin rs232 (straight through) cable. Had to change the default com port from 1 to 2 in the device manager to get it to work though. thanks DJTT |
Lilliana Perris 30.09.2009 | Damn man...... I have 2 kits.....and STILL no dice! I am sure it MUST be me doing something wrong. Being an IT professional....its actually rather embarrassing.... I just can't get mine into boot mode. |
Sherice Schoel 30.09.2009 | Got the kit in the mail today, and 10min later upgraded my vci-100, to FW 1.3 No issues upgrading with: HP PC XP Pro SP3 Renesas - Flash Development Toolkit 4.02 Basic USB to serial cable adapter (by ST-LAB) Thanks for the youtube guide Ean ! Now i wait for my arcade-kit with SE overlay... |
Donnie Decosse 13.09.2009 | I just did it following the wrong path but I guess I just got lucky. Sony Viao with Windows Vista USB to Serial Cable (purchase at CompUSA for $12) Kit received from DJTT was working ok. At first I had the USB power connected from the Mac I usually use the VCI with and where I have my Traktor Pro installed. Port for serial had been setup automatically on COM4 by the driver that came with the-cable's own software. First strange thing I found out is when I finished all the steps with Renesas, after turning on the VCI (and it turned on in "boot" mode perfectly), still I wasn't getting and "active" status (avaialbe to click) for the Program Flash button on Renesas (it was still grey). Then discovered that if I exited the program, when I started it up again, it opened up directly on that last page of the process, but this time the Program Flash button was active. So, clicked on it, firmware updating started, and of course I got the infamous "Error No 15024: Boot failed" message. Then, first measure I took was to change the USB power cable, disconnecting it from the Mac, and reconnecting now to the same PC from where the Serial connector was coming. New attempt, and got same Error result. I tried switching the USB inputs on the PC, and when I connected the USB-to-Serial Cable to the other input (the one I was using as power), the cable's driver software now assigned it to COM5. Tried to change then the configuration on Renesas to match this, but couldn't find the way to "go back" in Renesas. Even when I tried to completely abort the setting up and quit it, I restarted it again from zero, and Renesas still always opened on that same last page of the steps. Frustrated that I couldn't find the way to modify any previously set parameters in the software, I switched back the USB connectors as they were before; and then to my surprise, I hit once again "Program Flash", and this time it went though all the way until it showed me the "Installation written successfully" message (or something like that). I almost cried of the emotion. I really didn't pay attention to the exact order that I used when I re-switched back the connections and which one I plugged in first (if the power, or the Serial), but somehow I hit a right way, and it all went through. Can't wait to start playing with my new toy! Thank you, DJTT. |
Sammy Slaybaugh 22.08.2009 | Just successfully updated the VCI formerly known as Foxfire's VCI formerly known as djhipnotikk's VCI. I tried to do it via Parallels on my unibody Macbook without any luck (had trouble getting it to see the USB-Serial adapter), but my partner was able to do it on her Macbook Pro without any issues. Some driver issue between my laptop and the USB-Serial cable. Her laptop was able to see the adapter via Parallels (running Windows XP), and by following the video step-by-step we had no trouble at all doing the update. Now I have a shiny VCI-100 with 1.3 and an overlay! |
robin loo 18.08.2009 | finally.. i tried for about 3 hours with a serial-to-usb cable and it didn't work, i tried every preference there was, witout any chance.. half a week after, i purchased a normal 9-pin serial cable (labled extension cable) and it was done in about 3 minutes.. did it on an older asus laptop and XP pro thanks DJTT! |
Johnny Achziger 10.08.2009 | Proud papa of a newly upgraded vci-100 got the kit in the mail today, No issues upgrading the firmware: Dell Latitude D600 XP Pro Straight serial cable actual com port (not an usb adapter) Now my overlay actually works like it suppose to... fixed all the midi bugs Video instructions are very simple to follow.... For me its basic stuff I have pic and atmel programmers so electronics is nothing but second nature to me. But for the diy'er its straight forward... |
Laraine Arceo 09.08.2009 | Just successfully upgraded my brand new black unit thanks to flaekiface who sent me his kit the only problem was (apart from me having to fix drivers for the USB to Serial cable, my bad) that the paper sheet that "may require some tugging" I had to actually cut loose with a knife since it was a thick piece of almost cardboard superglued to the circuit board with massive blobs of glue... was like cutting plastic, impossible to just tug away. At one point I heard a distinct -POP!- which scared me to death but it seems it was just the paper... whew! |
Tierra Stanzel 08.08.2009 | instruction with comment nokia DKU 5 firmware kit mod http://odsiebie.com/pokaz/4641547---573f.html |
Adolf Hit 08.08.2009 | Just to clarify for people, the nokia kit will require significant modification to its connector to allow it to connect to the vci, and inherently it is exactly the same inside as a VCI upgrade adapter connected to a USB to serial converter. Anybody with one of these lying about at home could give this a try but it will not be any more reliable. |
Tierra Stanzel 07.08.2009 | orginal cable DKU-5 (made in nokia) work great ! I upgrade 3 machine VCI 100 ,all work perfect ! ..instruction link is clean, no malicious software ! ...more info google.com and NI community ! |
