I did a gig with an 2iPads(Lemur) and Audio 2 the other day and went internal just to see how fun it would be. It was all great except for volume control.

When I tested at home, being able to tap the screen to make the fader position jump seemed pretty practical and DJ friendly but once in the booth, I had to choose whether to enjoy the music and have fun or calm down and be precise. That was a real bummer...

Since I am satisfied with the 2iPads for all non-mixer controls, I am going to use the club mixer unless it's really crappy and I got myself a super portable set-up I always wanted. I'm going to miss the K2....

Well, I haven't mapped it yet but my draft looks a lot like the Twitch haha. I love the possibility of being able to map cycling panels or popup ones so you can switch elements of the layout on the fly without needing to change the page or even zoom in part of the interface for more comfortable use, this frees up modifiers in Traktor and gives a lot better feedback since you can have the elements be of a different color and/or just have everything labeled accordingly.

At first sight it looks like the animation/resizing part of the Mu layout is handled partially with returning OSC messages from M4L , I might be wrong tho. Anyways, I need to get more comfortable with scripting before adding some of this eye candy, it's not on my priority list atm.

The range element controlling a Filter92 with a hold (bandpass mode) button is a big win btw.

I have that on my iPhone with TouchOSC, super easy to do but would be way better on an iPad.

I've bought the Lemur and I will do a basic mapping for using it together with my NI Kontrol X1 with internal Mixing.

Let's see what I will be able to do

If the editor's interface it's better then TouchOSC, I will def. do a lot of mappings for traktor for free

Yeah I have that on a touchosc template it's easy to do but could probably be done better on the lemur

Well, I'm not prepared yet to abandon completely physical faders and knobs. Basically I'm downsizing my rig for when i move to aus. Might build an iPad only template tho, just for the sake of it .

Been believeing the exact same thing.
Although the mapping im gonna do for the K2 would be to use it on its own as a Super-Ultra portable setup i still quite like the idea of the Lemur app on iPad with a K2. But, then i believe why not just use the iPad and an Audio 2 underneath it. Now that would be super-duper portable.

I agree whole heartedly. Much more advanced, with features most people won't use. Im sure the layouts will come, and the abketon template Mu is probably my reason for wanting the app. Personally I have no plans to put learning script on my criteria of tutorials I'm taking just to use a name and be 50$ poorer for Another controller app. To each his own.

I bought it like a week ago and still haven't gotten up to figuring out how to get it to work on a PC. I tried using midiyoke and the lemur daemon and just couldn't get mu running...

Makes sense that there are way more TouchOSC templates for T2. Lemur had a very tiny use base for years and it has only been "open" for the masses recently. Second reason would be price. I'm sure once a few folks start doing interesting stuff with it (not just TOSC ports) the wheels will start turning.

Lemur's editor is miles ahead and at least I find it a lot more user friendly than it's counterpart if you are running basic stuff (specially being able to edit it while it's running on your device). For the advanced, you can't really compare because TOSC is missing that side.

Should everybody wanting a controller app buy Lemur? No, I believe the vast majority don't really need the extra features it provides and/or they are simply not interested in learning to script. Let's face it, most people just want it free/cheap and ready to go.

Personally, I find the Mu template brilliant and I'd like to develop something similar for Traktor to use with a K2 as an ultra portable setup.

PS: Not hating on TOSC, I used it for quite a while and I believe it still has blood in it's veins, it's just that I feel that this is the first app that matches it's level and takes it way beyond.

I completely agree. Way too expensive. What honestly can you do besides a bouncing ball or the like that touchOSC isn't already doing? Especially for the newb, the lemur template scene has died down. Like there's no traktor pro 2 layouts anywhere I can find, but I've found 6-7 touchOSC templates. All free w/exemption of the 5$ it cost. I want it just because it emulates a lemur bc I've wanted the kit for so long. TouchOSC was tweaked and that's the pinnacle of what we thought we'd get when I believe around 2 years ago they said it wouldn't be on iOS devices. now it is, but honestly at 50$ I can't name one reason to get it. There's nothing I couldn't do minus some shading effects and such that would warrant it, IMHO, obviously. It's extremely pro gear and is deff a step up, bu I'll wait till they have a sale.

Where do you get stuck?

I could never get midiyoke working properly on Windows 7.. I use loopbe30 and have it setup to go into Midi01 and out Midi02 on loopbe30.

loopbe1 (the 1 virtual midi port free app) I could never get working either as it kept giving me midi feedback issues if I had the in + out ports setup right.

Im going off memory here but the setup is something like this:
0. Install LoopBe30 (or something else that gives you 2 virtual midi ports on PC).
1. Install Lemur Daemon on your Win PC (I believe this is where you basically link the Lemur Daemon app to your virtual midi ports in/out so that they can be selected on your ipad in step3 below).
2. Install Lemur Editor on your Win PC.
3. Open IPad app and go to Options. Setup MIDI Targets so that Lemurs MIDI 0 goes to 01. Internal MIDI + 02. Internal MIDI (this is how LoopBe30 is named anyways).
4. You should now be connected. In the Lemur Editor, each object has a Channel (which defaults to 1 but I change it to 9 so it doesnt interfere with other things) and a Controller # (this is going to affect the note or the cc message coming out).

Which part are you getting stuck on?

I'm in the same spot as you Xone. There is one thread in the liine user community s where a guy got it working through midi yoke. I've followed his instructions to a tee but no dough. I can get it working for lemur editor but anything else is bust. God I'm so frustrated with Windows and its draconian midi implementation.
Nonetheless I'll keep working at it and post if I get it going.

Yeah there is definite potential when you get into the advanced physics stuff. Ean should get on it and come up with some crazy shit. I'd pay $5-$10 if there was a mapping that was absolutely nuts and in depth.

I totally agree that if it were ONLY for cues there are several less expensive apps that would fit the bill. I also have TouchOSC, and have tested several layouts from here and other spots around the interweb... I decided to pull the trigger and buy Lemur because I hope to use it for much more than just cue point juggling... I just thought I would do a very simply layout first to "get the lay of the land" when it comes to the Lemur software rather than biting off more than I could chew. In the end I may stick with TouchOSC when I'm using Traktor, and switch to Lemur when I work in Ableton, only time and testing will tell.

So far I've gotten far less disconnects using Lemur than I did with TouchOSC -> CoreMidi ( NOT Osculator )

Theres already an incredible TouchOSC traktor map that has full control over every sample deck and I believe it has a control for every single possible function in traktor including full control over all gridding functions, full control over the master clock, like 6 mixer layouts, lots of global functions, and even selecting what type of deck you want it's nuts. There's like 13 pages on it and I would love to see something like that for the lemur.

lemur is starting to really piss me off on windows but I'm sure it's worth it when I get it running

wow getting this to work on windows is a gigantic pain and is just not working for me. I can run touchable fine on windows now and now trying to get lemur to connect isn't happening.

I launch the lemur daemon, open lemur, and nothing shows up in the lemur daemon recognizing the ipad and no lemur daemon ports show up on the ipad. I know it is connected since I can connect to midiyoke ports and anything else on my network but not lemur daemon.

Edit, I guess I just need to connect to midiyoke since now it is showing up. There's no guides on the lemur site on how to do it on pc. I have no idea but I can't get it to work.

Just as I was making progress on my TouchOSC template / map for Traktor ( to prevent too much mode switching on my Stanton SCS3 ) now I'm going to change channels and have a go at making it in / for Lemur.

I sorted several of the issues with the legacy templates / tsi files already, but I still want to have a go at a proper ipad template.

4-decks, cues, midi fighter, would you like fries with that? :-P

I'll let you know how it goes and if you have questions, please PM me as I don't check the boards as often as I should. :-) TT

Yes installed tsi's only had 20 minute play tried 3 different templates but none were fully working , should I use the small import button to add them on top of my other maps or the large button

Plenty of apps transmit MIDI just not over the standard USB cable. If you jailbreak you can USB network tether.
