Super Knob TSI using Loop Recorder Posted on: 28.03.2011 by Julissa Serrone Attached is a TSI to use the Loop Recorder and buttons as a super knob for effects and 4 effect presets. Props to BigBeatzz who has been working on this idea for some time now and to Yul for breaking down how to map all of this.I tried to keep this pretty simple and could use some ideas on different effects presets. I'm not a effects happy person so the purpose of this was to have 4 buttons I can go to, turn a knob and be good to go. This TSI is set for use with two effects banks. FX 1 in chained and FX 2 in Advanced. Once loaded by default the LR works as normal. Once you load a track press the button under D/W for FX 1 and it should start to flash (the flashing is mapped to beatphase monitor so you need a track playing). Once this button is flashing the Loop Recorder is no longer a LR but a super knob. As of now Size = a Super Delay Undo = Army of Me's Whoosh mapping REC = Beatmasher Play = Blank You will notice all buttons are lit solid, once pressed the button will flash so you know what button is "on". I could use some ideas on some other effects presets or ways to improve the mapping. Looking fwd to some new effects coming out on TP2!!! Again props to BigBeatzz. | |

| Korey Quines 10.04.2011 | Ok, so I made a little edit on this mapping. FX 1 + 2 - Nomal, just as you want them to work. FX 3 - Army of Me Drama effect FX 4 - Good ol' Echo Freeze DRY/WET - AoM-drama parameters. SIZE - Deck A FX 3 > On/Off (toggle), and sets the DRAMA-Parameters UNDO - Same as SIZE, but assigns the effect to deck B REC - Deck A FX 4 > On/Off (toggle), Freeze on PLAY - Same as REC, but assigns the effect to deck B Now, if only someone could help me fix the LED-feedback my S4 would be complete! EDIT: Just noticed that FX 1 + 2 is reverted back to the old prefixed crap. Could someone help me fix this too? |
| Karolis Petrauskas 09.04.2011 | Hey Guys, I updated a few things for toevening ...I'll try and do some more tomorrow. For toevening : - All Superbutton area effects are dedicated to units 3 & 4. Ive reassigned the t3 delay to the new delay using unit 4...It sounds almost the same but when you work the knobs I believe the t3 delay sounds better. Thoughts? - The dry wet knob now effects the play button and the record button when they are pressed. This gives extra fun for the reverb and delay buttons. I had a thought about only using 2 effect units...this would solve the issue of assigning the effects although we'd loose the ability to unit 3 & 4. Import the TSI using the import button on the bottom if you are having issues with the way the effects are loading. Remember to backup any personal mappings just in case. |

| Julissa Serrone 09.04.2011 | ^ you can use superknobs on FX 3 and 4 and standard FX control on 1 and 2? if you want to use the fx controls currently set up, perhaps set up a toggle modifier and then cancel the FX controls for banks 1 and 2 when that modifier is toggled and then have it control 3 and 4. You would have to most likely map the revers of each control to that modifier so that they are negated. Maybe there's an easier way? |

| Karolis Petrauskas 09.04.2011 | Why not use the extra button available right under the gain knob? Seems like a cool place for a deck specific freeze. It could also engage the effect unit assignment. Whatcha believe? Btw, it's great to have more minds on this, very cool stuff! |

| Karolis Petrauskas 09.04.2011 | Did you disable the encoders for gain use? There is a mapping on traktor freaks that's disables the gain functions so you can reuse the knob. Check that out it may help. I'm planning on getting my hands dirty tomorrow so lets see what we can come up with. About it not showing in the controller editor I'm not sure. I know it sounds dumb but did you try a simple reboot? It should show in the controller editor. The blinking exclamation mark is telling you there is a connection issue somewhere. Is it possible you wrote a supercommand that freaked it out LOL? Try all the basics and if that doesn't work maybe reinstalling the software would help. You're on an imac right? I'll search some posts to see what turns up. |
| Joannie Brague 08.04.2011 | Hey guys having trouble setting up my S4 with some tweaks maybe you can help.. I want the push buttons for the gain encoders to function as an echo out. However when I go to map it, it sends the message as a hold. So the echo stays on and doesn't toggle off. Any ideas? I'm doing this in the native HID mode, as I always want quick access to my echo out and don't want to switch between modes. Also, I keep getting the blinking exclamation mark. I searched the community s and it doesn't give a clear answer. Another thing is that the s4 isn't showing up in the controller editor. So when I go into midi mode it's not working properly. Downloaded all the latest drivers. Nothing. Help a girl out fellas.. |
| Karolis Petrauskas 08.04.2011 | @ medic --- I found an issue when using the extra button on the channel. When you disable or change crossfader assignments it throws everything out of whack. @ army --- keep at it, I'm sure you'll come up with something amazing. Right now I am loving having the whoosh is the middle of the s4, it's so dope for creating drama. @ rukks --- I noticed yesterday that if you hit the deck button while in 4 effect unit mode it acts as a shift in TP2. it would be a cool idea to make the dry wet button a way to switch, but it won't work well if in advanced mode. I also believe I am going to make an update that uses the loop recorder dry/wet to also allow parameter changes for the t3 delay and reverb. I believe it would be really useful. Also does anyone know a combo for the new delay that sounds like the preset I am using? I figure if I can figure it out I can remap that button to unit 4 and remap the reverb to unit 3. This would free up units one and 2 for whatever. |
| Lang Abriel 07.04.2011 | Ive been messing with the bouncers alot...adds groove to tracks, also if I enable it starting at a high rate it has a good sound on the right track....usually over a stagnant 8 bar section ill throw it in the middle, hard to do on the fly without being able to hear cued efx. I have a question that I have been pondering, Im sure traktor bible answers it but ive looked around a bit and not found an answer....Here it is: Is there anyway to have 4 efx banks for the s4 in traktor 2? I don't mean have 4 effects running on a line at the same time. I am hoping to set up my s4 so I can have it toggle from fx 1 to 3 with a double tap of the dry/wet button. So tap once to enable effect bank 1 then tap again to enable effect 3 and then tab once more to deactivate the effect. This would apply for the other side as well with banks 2 and 4. I don't know if this is possible and I dont have the mapping knowledge to do it myself yet. I just want to through the idea out there and didn't know where else to do it but here. The main purpose of this would be to have more effects to turn to quickly instead of having to load them in really quickly if you want to utilize multiple effects in a row. /idea If its been done already please link me. |

I just learned that when in 4 deck mode, pressing the deck button changes the effects area to unit 3 and 4. Not sure how I missed this...is it new to T2? @ Armyofme...got any new supercombos? You're a badass...fo' realz! @Haze...you rule dude. Am I the only one that feels cool because armyofme is checking out our tsi? LOL |

The thing with the S4 vs. the VCI is that the VCI is a "fun" small controller you get into. The S4 is a little more refined, and little more rigid and I too found it hard to really enjoy it. It's like it's missing personality. I also have an NS7 and that to me is just a blast to play on. The S4 though has TONS of tools it offers, I believe once you get a workflow going and see it for the tools you'll find it's value. But for me, it's still not as "fun" until this superknob that I was able to personalize it a bit. Check out some of Yul's posts. He's remapped a few things, but in native mode there's only so many things that can be re-mapped. |

| Karolis Petrauskas 07.04.2011 | You totally nailed it! You're a guru around here =). The S4 is a ton of fun but you have to trick it to get your mappings to work. We have tried a ton of combos to get things to work. It's a fun challenge but I really wish the mapping was easier. If you have any questions let us know, Haze and I have put in a ton of hours trying to trick the S4 into working the way we want. Thanks for your original mapping , it sparked the entire idea of our S4 super section. |

| Karolis Petrauskas 07.04.2011 | @Medic Try and load the TSI I put up on page 2 of this thread, I tested it and it should work. When you import it use the import button on the bottom of the preferences window. Make sure to backup your settings if you have anything special made. |

| Mariano Godina 31.03.2011 | Ye me too, i might have to re map that section again myself, as there's 1 knob and 4 buttons sitting there that never get used that i could re map to something. |Maybe i just haven't given the loop recorder enough of a chance yet, although without keylock on sample decks, it's a bit wack IMO. Last thing i want is to capture a nice mix of tracks only to then here them change in pitch when i drop it into the sample deck. |
| Lang Abriel 31.03.2011 | Yeah im not knocking the idea at all. I believe its great and I don't really use the LR but Im just so used to using multiple knobs for parameters. I believe the solution for me is to just buy another controller for effects and cues 5-8. I really like the super 'swoosh' If anything I would just map that to the LR itself...Might have to sit down and watch her mapping. |

| Karolis Petrauskas 30.03.2011 | OK...Haze and I have been working on this idea for about 2 months. Here goes, import the full .tsi because it has effects settings. I believe this should work out. Read above for the mapping information. Another little feature is the deck playing will blink on the cross fader assignment of it's channel fader. Also note, I haven't figured out a good solution to turn on the effect units on each channel. I'd love some recommendations. I had it on the assign effects buttons up top but everytime I'd turn off the crossfader it would unsync the buttons. Feedback on how to make it better is appreciated. |

In mine it goes like this: Size + drywet knob = army of me whoosh - Hold to use undo = echo freeze - Toggle to use record = t3 midifighter delay - Hold to use Play = midifighter reverb - Hold to use Haze on the issue you where having when you imported mine I believe I may have figured it out. I loaded the midifighter Tsi to take a look at it. I bet if you load it, it will adjust your effects to the right way. Then when you load my tsi it should work. For those that are having an issue that the default S4 mapping disappears, turn off the S4 and turn it back on. This will restore the goodness. |
| Julissa Serrone 30.03.2011 | Thanks for the feedback. Yeah effects have to be set chained and advanced. Like I said. I'm not an effects happy guy and don't use too many of them. You can still use the effects how you would regularly use them and you can still use effects 3 and 4. This mapping is not completed and was posted with the intent of getting feedback on how to use it best or develop other FX super combos for a single knob. Bigbeatzz has a cool mapping he made where the Super Knob controls FX 3 and 4 and then you can still use 1 and 2 natively. The "flashing" is set to beatphase monitor. It will only flash while a song is playing. I have to double check the record button. I may have posted the tsi before I mapped the flashing on that button. |
| Lang Abriel 30.03.2011 | Its not a bad mapping just you have to know to set your efx correctly. I kinda of like having all the efx traktor provides and by limiting myself to these its not ideal. And efx1 always has to be in chained while efx2 always has to be in advanced for this mapping to work correct? Also, the flashing of the loop record buttons is random for me so far. The record doesn't flash at all when it is activated. Not sure if this is how it is supposed to be? |
