Super Knob TSI using Loop Recorder
Super Knob TSI using Loop Recorder Posted on: 28.03.2011 by Julissa Serrone Attached is a TSI to use the Loop Recorder and buttons as a super knob for effects and 4 effect presets. Props to BigBeatzz who has been working on this idea for some time now and to Yul for breaking down how to map all of this.I tried to keep this pretty simple and could use some ideas on different effects presets. I'm not a effects happy person so the purpose of this was to have 4 buttons I can go to, turn a knob and be good to go. This TSI is set for use with two effects banks. FX 1 in chained and FX 2 in Advanced. Once loaded by default the LR works as normal. Once you load a track press the button under D/W for FX 1 and it should start to flash (the flashing is mapped to beatphase monitor so you need a track playing). Once this button is flashing the Loop Recorder is no longer a LR but a super knob. As of now Size = a Super Delay Undo = Army of Me's Whoosh mapping REC = Beatmasher Play = Blank You will notice all buttons are lit solid, once pressed the button will flash so you know what button is "on". I could use some ideas on some other effects presets or ways to improve the mapping. Looking fwd to some new effects coming out on TP2!!! Again props to BigBeatzz. | |
Karolis Petrauskas 21.04.2011 | Perfecto. |
Janella Schlappich 21.04.2011 | checked twice.... guess tomorrow i'll give traktor a second chance... XD I'm trying out the combo proposed by Ean Golden in one of his tutorials, beatmasher/FLO/reverb (he used iceverb, but i prefer the classic reverb). I'd say is pretty good to soften up some "violent" breaks, but is much more situational than the "army superknob". I will look for some combos right this week-end. |
Karolis Petrauskas 21.04.2011 | Double check your settings in your mapping. Sometimes when adding too many commands traktor will change the value after you put it in. Generally after you correct the value it will take and you will not have the problem. Also, I don't believe traktor can tell the difference between the order. All the commands go out at once. Also, pardon my English I am from Brooklyn. =) |
Janella Schlappich 21.04.2011 | i've just finished adding a second superknob combo, but i'm experimenting a minor issue. My effect parameters start at 100 instead of 0 (just the single effects parameter, not the global dry/wet). Turning the dry/wey just resets to 0, so is not a real issue, cause as soon you move the knob, the effect starts to grow up normally. I can't find the bug, as i set to 0 the FXparameter before the FXturnon.... any help 'bout that? thx! and sorry for my crappy english... i'm from italy ^_^ |

If you guys can come up with some great super combos please post them and I will test and see if they work. I don't mind doing the mapping as long as it sounds great. Right now ArmyOfMe set the bar, I hope to see some more sparks fly! =) -- Maybe a bouncer super effect for the T2 users. -- Also, I'll try and work on some sort of effect assign situation this weekend or early next. My kid is turning 2 and I've been on Daddy mode planning a YO Gabba Gabba Party this weekend (YIKES...parents, uncles and aunts you know all about it!!!!) Anyway guys, I'm glad interest is growing. I find it a heck of a lot of fun to play the whoosh sound for the fun of it. Sometimes I'll play a minute or two of a music just to use the "SUPER" area and get a lol. |
Julissa Serrone 22.04.2011 | yeah that's kinda where we got stuck. We had 2-3 "super combos" and figured posting this here would spark creativity and others could add some combos or more user friendly ways to use it. Bottom line, it's possible and it works pretty damn well. I believe as some tutorials or vids of the 4 new effects start getting posted we'll come up with some new ones. Enjoy |
Janella Schlappich 22.04.2011 | hell, heay XD great job, really! now i'd like to implement 1 or 2 more superknob using the rec and the play button. I gave a look at the tutorial, and seems not impossible ^_^ if i build up something that works i will post it of course :P |
Julissa Serrone 22.04.2011 | Super Knobs rule the world |
Janella Schlappich 21.04.2011 | the tsi works, but both the freeze and the delay seems to be wrongly mapped, as when i trigger one of those the gater effect is triggered instead of the delay. As default FX units 3 and 4 are those used by the superknob/LRbuttons combo. Have i done something wrong? is the first time i try to import a custom mapping for the S4 'nuff said.... i just re-imported and now works as intended |

Karolis Petrauskas 20.04.2011 | To be honest I haven't really solved that. I generally use it in breakdowns or as a little drama over the entire mix. I had an idea with the existing effects sections on the s4. If we leave one or two slots empty they can be assigned to trigger the super effect on unit 3 and 4. This would allow each of the three knobs to be something useful. Also the way the effect assign works is hold...maybe we can make the lighted one a direct on and the unlighted one a direct off. I'll have to test this later, I believe it would work. So pressing the lighted button would turn on effect units 1,2,3,4. |
Joannie Brague 19.04.2011 | How do u tell it what deck to apply the super combo effect to? |
Karolis Petrauskas 20.04.2011 | Here is the link to my last 2 files: http://www.djranking s.com/community /sho...6&postcount=66 Use the import button on the bottom and you should be good to go. Size = whoosh -- Hold down button and turn knob to use Undo = freeze - Toggle Rec = delay -Hold and turn the knob if you want to change the value. Play = reverb - Hold and turn the knob if you want more. Also note, to find them all you need to do is read the thread. We have kept everything here...I started posting on page 1. |

I'm loving the mapping! |
Karolis Petrauskas 19.04.2011 | The file has a user mapping and the default one. Import by using the "import button on the bottom and you should be ok. Check my last TSI's, I have one for the S4 software and one for T2. If you have an issue when first importing that makes you S4 not work, just turn it off and turn it back on; it should solve the issue and you shouldn't have the issue again. |
Derick Aves 19.04.2011 | is the file all inclusive with the other s4 mappings included, or is it just a modifier? I just got an S4 and am new to traktor. I've tried tinkering for a while but no luck. I got a frozen s4 needing restart, a pair of ON's nonresponsive, and nothing ness on my attempts. barrett |
Julissa Serrone 17.04.2011 | progress. Sweet!!!!! Glad this is working for some folks. I was talkin to beats about making another combo with transpose stretch kicking in after the delay hit's half way to get that skreetch sound at the top of the delay, maybe a tad bit of filter too. Gotta find sometime to work on it. Maybe AoM has some ideas **hint**hint** |

While attempting to use the AoM Whoosh (build-up) effect, I could never get it to work at times when there was a simple/silent build-up to the main chorus(? I know that's not right, but I'm at a loss of words). I can, however, get it to work during the chorus part. So, my theory is that using the AoM Whoosh should be a build-up substitute when there is none produced in the actual song. Am I correct in this, and if so, why can't I catch anything to Whoosh-on-to in a simple build up? |
Karolis Petrauskas 12.04.2011 | Kobbe...I've had that issue where the effects buttons revert to 1&2 also. What I have found is when I turn off the unit it snaps back to the way it should be. I actually prefer to have the 1&2 buttons to be working and got excited about it and then it disappeared. |

Judi Sissel 11.04.2011 | Sure no prob... Heres the step by step (loaded on top of stock settings): -Open/Load Traktor -Import beatz.tsi via import button on the bottom left hand corner in the preference pane -Import Controller and effect settings, press OK -Play a track -check to make sure that the desired effects and buttons are working -check to make sure channel A/B have the capabilities of selecting(on/off) Effects banks 1 and 2 (at this point it does) ... This will continue till I either switch layouts or shutdown traktor.... I actually noticed the state of the effect will still be the same as from when I close traktor and re-load it... ie; if a bank is on when closing traktor, then traktor will show its "on" on the next boot, but the S4 WONT! The functionality of the button(s) will be lost as I will not be able to turn on or off the effect bank via the S4 (effects still work if turned on in traktor) . Through the S4 channel A/C only have the ability to assign (on/off) Effect bank 1 and B/D Effect bank 2. As far as X1 mapping for effects and beat riding.... im on board for that |
Karolis Petrauskas 11.04.2011 | When I open traktor every works the same as the time before...can you please give a step by step of the issue? Thisncan help us break it down. Tx, hopefully we can get this rocking for everyone, otherwise I an going to strongly consider making a Kontrol X1 mapping as an effects only and beat ridding addition. |
Judi Sissel 11.04.2011 | No, just me being a n00b. Once I unchecked and checked it, it worked. I did notice that once I import the TSI the effects are controllable per channel. I can play through songs and had have all four banks be used... but when I close out Traktor and re-open the problem reoccurs. A simple re load of the TSI will give me back the functionality, but im guessing that its not supposed to do that right? EDIT: I will also lose control of the opposite bank if I change the layout either by the drop down or adding/subing different layout preferences... Maybe its just time for me to buy the Traktor 2 Bible.... lol |
Karolis Petrauskas 11.04.2011 | @ Dario. The way the S4 is set up restricts a lot. Those buttons up top can't be reworked to much which I hate. In 4 effect unit mode it's setup as 1 effect button per deck based on deck #... a= 1, b= 2 ect.... |

Here are my results as of loading the last TSI by Beatzz The TSI was loaded into TP2 with the stock 2 effect bank settings: -First load did not take as there were different effects loaded into AoM swoosh effects (effect bank 3) -Second load did take as the effects in AoM swoosh effect were correct (ice, pkfltr, reverb). I can confirm that the following four buttons are as follows.. Size = whoosh Undo = freeze Rec = delay Play = reverb Maybe I am reading over something, but is there a reason why I cant select effect bank 2 for deck a and effect bank 1 for deck b, via the effect buttons for each channel? |
Roselee Delbalso 11.04.2011 | Thank you |
Karolis Petrauskas 11.04.2011 | Ok lets try again. I've uploaded 2 files, one for T2 and one for S4. Import using the bottom import button. |
Karolis Petrauskas 11.04.2011 | Hey guys....just load my tsi using the import button on the bottom. If S4 users are having issues with my last upload I believe it's due to the 4 extra effects in T2. I'll remove them from the tsi and reupload shortly. You do not need to load the ig mapping, the issue should be solved as of my last 2 tsi files. |
Julissa Serrone 11.04.2011 | mmm.....not sure? I know he had to go into the IG thread and put his effects in the order they are in that thread for the X1 IG mapping to work. So his superknob mapping has the effects in that order. I had the same issue because my effects were in a different order. In fact after I changed them, then re-loaded my tsi....I had to change the effects back to how I had them because my tsi was loading them incorrectly. Traktor is tricky? The other option I can believe of is if you are crafty with the mapping go into the each of the commands that assign effects and change them in the actual midi commands to the proper effects you need loaded. |
Roselee Delbalso 11.04.2011 | Just to get this straight, load the midifighter IG .tsi, then bigbeatzz .tsi from page two? Just want to clear this up for everyone. |
Julissa Serrone 11.04.2011 | It should work with TS4, our initial TSI were created using the S4 software. double check that the effects are in the order they need to be from the Midi Fighter IG mapping. There's a thread in the mapping section that has them. Also, upgrade to T2...the waves are super! |

Julissa Serrone 12.04.2011 | ^ I tried messing around with the beatmasher and after seeing some of the shiftee, craze, etc. vids I noticed on some vids they have the D/W and the effect Parameter mapped to one button. It works pretty good. I have it assigned to REC and it works pretty good. You can move the knob to the rate you want to start with and then press the REC button the word or beat you want to mash and then turn, turn some more, turn less, turn more, etc. and then either hit the button to turn off. I believe Beatzz has been using these as hold vs. toggle so there's some room to play with and get it to do what the jogs could do. |
Wallace Ferraro 12.04.2011 | As sayd many times about, very good work done here... Would be even greater having the beatmasher assigned to the jogwheel, just throwing it out there^^ Can't wait til I acculy have the s4 and x1, they are currently in the customs.. shipped from DJTT. |
Karolis Petrauskas 11.04.2011 | Victory, it sounds like you are having some wacky issue with my tsi. Did you use the import button on the bottom? Also are you using Traktor 2? Traktor has a strange way of handling the way the effects order works. Try and import 2 times and see if that corrects it. Also after import shut down traktor and reopen to make sure everything syncs up properly. Also the re button should trigger a delay not the whoosh. The whoosh is triggered by the size button and turning the knob. Size = whoosh Undo = freeze Rec = delay Play = reverb Hope it works out for you....I'll check my mapping when I get home. Is anyone else having the same issue? |
Tina Sereal 11.04.2011 | Guys, I'm really excited about the mappings you guys are creating, I believe they are totally sick and will help in adding some creativity to the S4. Bigbeatzz, I tried both of your mappings (which I loaded with "Import"): The first mapping worked well expect for the play button, which didn't create the effect on the track at all (the Army Swoosh), although the knob registered with all three effects (Reverb, t3, and delay?). The second mapping had a very strange glitch for some reason. Instead of playing the appropriate effect when a button was pressed, it would just clear that effect completely. So, if I pressed the undo button, it would delete the effects in the second (I believe? Maybe the first?) deck. Anyways, you all are awesome and I'm really looking forward to the completion of this mapping. Thanks for all you're hard work. P.S. Bigbeatzz, you have the strangest Traktor setup I've ever seen, haha |
Karolis Petrauskas 11.04.2011 | @ army...I believe the knob will only act as a button in midi mode. @ Haze -- YEA BOI!!! lolz |
