Deep House/Bass Music
Posted on: 01.02.2012 by Kelley Mendrick
Just wanted to get a rough idea on what people's thoughts on deep house and bass music are? SBTRKT, Pearson Sound, Disclosure, Boddika, Blawan, Maya Jane Coles, Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore, Mosca, Catz n Dogz...

Are these all artists popular with DJTT community members? I just wandered what the general feel for music here was!

P.S if you are into this kind of music leave some feedback on my quick 15minute mix! Thanks

Saw that Blawan set on the live stream. It was phenomenal! He actually made me want to change my collection. Definitely in my top 5 Boiler Room Sets. Download the set here http://www.mediafire.com/?a9a6jorkdp9v7bd

Yes and No.

Yes it can be considered bass music but this is not the style we are talking about. That is Brostep with a UK Garage beat pattern.

I really like the Dirtybird stuff that was posted earlier, Waiting by Christian Martin is simultaneously banging and groovy. It's funny that I got into DJing because of Electro House but more and more I'm creeping the Tech House and Techno sections of Beatport.

No problem You gave me a few ideas on how to mix it up with this new style of music. I'll be uploading a new mix within this week too.

Yeah I heard it a few weeks ago, pretty cool mix, a lot of hip-hop which I don't normally listen to. Exactly, Hudson Mohawke and Rustie goes pretty well together though (not that it's that surprising).

Cheers man! Yeah I fucked up on that blend, there was another one that was a bit messy but I was pleased with how it came out overall. I was believeing of making it 3 separate mixes for the different genres covered but I like a bit of a musical journey in a mix.
I totally agree on Rustie being difficult to mix, same with Hudson Mohawke and that whole 'Post-Dubstep' sound. Did you catch his essential mix though?

Cool mix dude, found a few tracks I'll be checking out. Really liked the mix, nice use of fxs and blending tracks together. The only thing that I remember being a off was the blend of After Light - Rustie with
Ignition - Swidle ft. Footsie & Nadia Sulimanm. I love Rustie but I find it really hard to do any proper blends with his tracks. I can only make it work with a fast cut

Hey guys, did this mix which is heavily influenced by this thread.

Thanks for all the input and opening my eyes to the future instead of being stuck in the past playing Old School Garage.

BIG UP!!! I've been gone for a while from DJTT but now I see there's some bass tings goin on here, that's sick

having flicked through this thread, everyone's got the right idea - Swamp 81, Night Slugs, Hessle Audio, Hotflush, Hemlock, Dirtybird, Numbers, LuckyMe, Fade To Mind, R&S Records etc etc etc lots of good stuff here..

Xlr8r.com is bang on it's bass music if you want a good blog.

I'm with a music collective here between Glasgow and Edinburgh, currently with a blog and radio show, DJing at other people's evening s at the moment, but running some big parties of our own starting in the summer (fingers crossed) - if you're into Bass music, that's mainly what we're about (along with a deep house crossover..)

the blog's here and you can link to all our past radio shows here

..all with full tracklistings blah blah blah. but check this out for starters (and let me know if you like it!) we base our shows on the rinse.fm format - if you like this music as shane says, check that out (i rarely don't listen to it)

Most of the producers and DJs that are on the forefront of this sound play on Rinse.fm. Redlight (Lobster Boy), Oneman (502 Records), Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990 (Night Slugs), Pearson Sound & BenUFO (Hessle Audio), Leofah (Swamp81), Jackmaster (Numbers) and some others have regular shows on Rinse. Either weekly or bi-weekly. These guys will be playing the latest tracks from their labels as well as each others. You can hear tracks months before they get released. Let me tell you THIS IS THE STATION you should be listening to if you like any of the tracks I have been posting. All shows are recorded and can be downloaded off their website rinse.fm

Heres the old Bass music thread:

http://community .djranking s.com/showthread.php?t=32614

Also, I recently saw Egyptrixx and Martyn for the Red Bull Music Academy Mutek tour. All I can say is WOW! It was an amazing show, I honestly did not know much about Egyptrixx so was there primarily to see Martyn but he ended up blowing me away. His use of reverb and delay during his mixes was perfect, made his set feel more like an hour long track seamlessly morphing into new sounds than just track into track mixing. If any of you get the opportunity to see either of them, GO!

Here is a great video from their Vancouver show (I saw them in Calgary the next evening ):
