Deep House/Bass Music
Posted on: 01.02.2012 by Kelley Mendrick
Just wanted to get a rough idea on what people's thoughts on deep house and bass music are? SBTRKT, Pearson Sound, Disclosure, Boddika, Blawan, Maya Jane Coles, Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore, Mosca, Catz n Dogz...

Are these all artists popular with DJTT community members? I just wandered what the general feel for music here was!

P.S if you are into this kind of music leave some feedback on my quick 15minute mix! Thanks

Justin Martin is such a great DJ- last Friday was the best set I've heard in months. He was also wearing a hello kitty shirt.

dont know if you's would count the UK techno scene as part of the UK Bass scene but I just got the Frozen Border:Minutes in Ice compilation on wax, really good compilation if anyone wants dark atmospheric techno that could fit into a UK bass set very easily! kind of like the Joy O & Boddika collab style!

Definitely some good music in this thread regardless of what genre you label it as. Personally I get tired of all the genre labels, sub genres, Beatport classifications etc.

Regardless of what you label my sound I believe the followers of this thread may enjoy it. The full track listings are available on SoundCloud.

You can see how he could have missed it, you can't expect people to read all the way down to the second post in the thread.

Us americans don't call any electronic music black house music. I don't believe at this point of time color has any need to be in a genre description.

Once again you haven't read the thread. This has already been said.

OK I had to post this - what you guys are talking about is complete rubbish...

Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex etc is NOT deep house and never has been... Do you know where Jamie started? Seven years ago he was making minimal of the highest order and playing at places like Below (which is nothing like it is now), he then met up with the now-visionquest guys and went disco...

Deep house is generally an american term for black house music (their term not mine), several examples:

MAW
Carlton
Lil Louis
Bah Samba
Arnold Jarvis
Kerri Chandler
Ben Watt (the UK king of deep house)
Blaze
Dennis Ferrer
DJ Gregory
Franck Roger
Glenn Underground
Julien Jabre
Kenny Bobien
Louie Vega (on his own, Kenny D is more on a house vibe)
Manoo
Francois A
Moodymanc
Peven Everett (Look up "Stuck" from a few years ago, shit was insane at Soul Heaven in MoS, heard it played 6 times in one evening )
Quentin Harris
Rasmus Faber
Reel People (live band, great stuff!)
Rodamaal

Labels:

King Street Sounds
Shelter
Defected (look back to 2002-2010)
Buzzin Fly (ESSENTIAL listening - this is the definition of deep house)
OM (less so the modern stuff)

Bass music is COMPLETELY different, sparked out of dubstep it encompasses a variety of music from 140bpm dubstep, house, UK funky etc...

Deep House is extremely popular in Tenerife, Spain. But in London there is a lot more with the 'phat' Bass music, I live in both locations thats why I can tell.

IHi people. Just checking if anyone is around Norwich on Friday... Carnival are playing host to Hackman, Gerry Read, Medlar, Tom@RAMP and me for a bit in room 2. If you're into music mentioned on this thread you should love this!

Its good for warm up or to be in your place smoking weed I dont believe i can handle a complete deep house party
Birgit Gondal
19.05.2012
yeah its weird because theres almost two genres being called bass music, one which is that very in your face almost electro-y techno sound, and then theres the smooth deep house sound that's around now, and quite a lot of the time there are tracks which will work for both etc, a real acid revival amongst both scenes also!
Salvatore Husley
20.05.2012
It is techno. But blawan gets put onto the same bill as a lot of other artists that can be considered bass music producers. Tricky isn't it?
Brande Baiocco
19.05.2012
I listened to that blawan boiler room set and some parts of it were pretty good. Is this the elusive Bass Music as I've always thought of stuff like foamo, lee mortimer to be Bass Music. This to me sounds more techno than anything.
Salvatore Husley
18.05.2012
Yeah that 92 track has the old school house feel to it. I believe can easily fit into a mix with most of the music in this thread.
Aurelio Cavazos
18.05.2012
:O oh shit I thought every1 here only listened to electrohouse or w/e they call it and dubstep!!

if u like this type of music u should also try listening to the swedish label studio barnhus, allthough they're not uk funky/bass/future garage w/e they have a similar feeling: http://soundcloud.com/kornel/downsince92 http://soundcloud.com/pamparecords/axel-boman-purple-drank (the last one isn't from studio barnhus but axel is nowadays on studio barnhus)
