tbh I believe the actual details of the original event that 'sparked' this are irrelevant now. The rioting has become a stand alone problem with a weak excuse...

A somewhat related article

Quite a long read but interesting nonetheless.

I just believe the rioters are idiotic and have no thoughts for the future! Probably people with more time on their hands than sense because they are unemployed and 'don't get enough benefits'

Sometimes this country irriates the living shit out of me! Nothing GREAT about Britain!

The country is going down the shitpan!

large scale riots don't just conflagrate from thin air. What is the profile of the typical rioter and what existing discontent (percieved or real) served as the springboard?

No the taxi driver was just a bystander that was shot by mistake. It wasn't until the saturday when a crowd formed outside tottenham police station, but it wasn't until the evening time when the rioting started.

the guns laws are MUCH stricter than they are here. There was a series of shootings in a sleepy village called Hungerford back in the day. It was a "gun enthusiast" who just happened to have a small arms cache in his garden shed. He went out around the village shooting people. They locked that shit down real quick after that (not that it was ever as lax is the US is).

arnt gun laws really tight over there in the first place?

i dont mind a taxi driver with a gun. their job is one of the most dangerous simply because of all the people they come in contact with

The UK has guns like Saudi Arabia has McDonalds - you can find em but they aint on every street corner like the US. Hmmm. maybe that's just where I live....the guns that is, not McDonalds, actually, hold on... oh someone shoot me.

You guys have guns in the UK?! I thought it was just us redneck yankees.

But seriously, that's really sad that they shot someone that didn't do anything. Hope his family gets some kind of settlement.

It's rioting for violence's sake with no real reason behind it. Disgraceful if you ask me. I'm all for people's right to protest, and I've been on a few demos in my time, but nothing warrants this.

indeed, getting worse and spreading, i kind of agree in an uprising as we are controlled to much by the nanny goverment and coverups but the looting and whole chav tasticness off it all is 2 much.

Thing is it happens in europe alot look at greece turkey and even france, they stick up for themselves and yet it happens in UK and its like the worst thing in the work, its half media hype.

etherway its bloody chavs and no respect for another persons property!

It's going metal in Birmingham as well. They don't give two shits about the protests - it's just scumbags spotting an opportunity to be violent and steal!! Disgraceful!!

It's ridiculous here. I live in in East Dulwich not too far from Peckham and it's going crazy.
