NI Kontrol S4 MK2

So... With the Kontrol X1 mk2 going on sale today, anyone else believeing that it may be time for the introduction of an s4 mk2?

S4's have dropped in price recently (a common sign of NI bringing out a new product)

The s4 has been around for a good few years, time for a new one?

With the introduction of new features such as the touch strip, now found on the new NI controllers, is the s4 missing out?

What are your thoughts?

Isn't that an S4? Looks pretty disappointing if all they've done is add some LEDs to the transport buttons.

It's one of those that were posted on this certain thread some days ago, it was even you who deleted the links. One image which is located on the NI-server has leaked and can still be accessed by the public, although I guess there's more and we just don't have the image links yet. If you still don't want this semi-official confirmation of the Kontrol S2 on the DJTT community s, just delete the link below.

I'm also wondering why none of the big blogs I follow hasn't jumped on the train yet, seems pretty official to me.

//thanks makar1, it really is the S4 and not the S2. However, the S2 has also been on the NI-site and both look pretty much the same (except for the extra eqs and faders for decks C and D on the S4)

There is nothing we know about S4 Mk2 and the Z4, so please stop defaming products that you haven't seen yet.

Would love to see a controller with the F1's pads though, most people don't scratch anyway.

//edit: my fault, the image on the NI-site shows the S4 Mk2 and not the S2 Mk2. However, for several hours, there has also been an image of the Kontrol S2 Mk2, but it had quickly been removed.

It's clear that NI care for native control more than MIDI stuff... Been waiting for 10 years to see NI add more modifiers, slots, iso mode, timers, automation, sequencer, hot commands...

Maybe we are supposed to invent them all before they incorporate them

Still waiting for my other post to be approved... I missed the lack of encoders on that mockup. Remove two rows of pads and add a touchstrip and row of encoders. Hell, just do away with the jogs and put 4 touchstrips on there with full Remix Decks using encoders for the volume faders!

Well, Stewe, you could probably map it to work pretty well! But, it wouldn't be very intuitive out of the box, and NI isn't going to ditch those knobs (see X1 mk2).

Yeah, that would be unreal controllerist tool.

And I actually find the pitch bend touch strip more user friendly than the S4 jog wheels.

I love how you can use all 4 effects easily on all four channels when you've got 2 of them. And you've got ready access to all the FX when using 2 x MK2's without having to switch back and forth
I agree with this. I feel like the jogwheels are somewhat a waste of space. I would like to see the ability to route all 4 fx units and have 4 sets of hotcues etc a la 4midiloop as well.

PM sent. I'm extremely disappointed in the mk2 versions. I've been holding off on buying a DDJ-SX for months even though I'm a Traktor user and have owned the original S4. I ordered the DDJ-SX last evening and will be using it with Traktor while also dipping my toes in Serato DJ. I was expecting the Kontrol S4 to offer the touch strips from the X1 mk2 and have some functionality of the Remix Decks built in to the controller. Improved jogs and a less toyish build quality were also on my list of desired improvements. It looks like NI dropped the ball this time.

Removing the four sample buttons out of S4 would give some room for the nice long touch strip.

Really disappointing then. At least they added something new to the X1 MK2. I can't imagine anyone will be selling their original S2 for that thing. Hopefully the S4 has at least a touch strip or something. I've been saving cash up for this thing too...

i saw the leaked pics. God awful to say the least, why would NI invest in a product release for such SMALL CHANGES!!!

-Rgb buttons
-Chrome jogwheels

How cool would this be? I just googled MK2, and this render thing came up.
Kind of wacky, but Maschine-like "read out" would be super tight

EDIT: I also believe alot of stuff could be condensed, like looping, effects, etc... Especially if they put in a touch screen!
I believe it needs more buttons in a tighter space.

Really?? I cant see any significant differences to the MK1. Seeing those pice has left me completely uninspired!

Although..... the S4 (and i suppose the S2) have been and still are extremely popular (i LOVED my S4) so i suppose they dont need too much of an overhaul.

I guess Im really expecting a single deck, jogwheel controller and until that materialises I'll always be uninspired by new NI gear.
