NI Kontrol S4 MK2

So... With the Kontrol X1 mk2 going on sale today, anyone else believeing that it may be time for the introduction of an s4 mk2?

S4's have dropped in price recently (a common sign of NI bringing out a new product)

The s4 has been around for a good few years, time for a new one?

With the introduction of new features such as the touch strip, now found on the new NI controllers, is the s4 missing out?

What are your thoughts?

isnt this pretty much what they did with maschine mk1>2 ?

Nah, not really worth the upgrade mebelieves. If it had included some Maschine pads that controlled the remix decks and maybe some more booth/XLR/Audio outputs etc and possibly some sort of touchstrip above the pads then it would be a different beast.

I'd like to see what the overall build quality of the unit is despite aluminium Jogwheels, though i doubt it's much different.

im not to hot on controllers.. tbh this just looks like a minor facelift... (discounting the IOS stuff)
i doubt its worth the upgrade if you have the old s2/s4 - rgb light are nice but...

what do y'all believe?

you don't have to be innovative when you can just lock everyone else out of your software...

Shishdisma, I would say that is because the S4 is absolutely amazing. Here's a short video about creativity:

Also I'm with rdej47, I'm holding off buying a Maschine till they can integrate it with Traktor's workflow. Just do it already!

That was expected, now where the hell is the Maschine 2.0 software update?

This can't be a big announcement. Look at this vs and S4, it is exactly the same mechanical design. I don't believe that this is all they will do. I believe there will be a bigger and/or better product. Something more advanced with more features such as touch strips or bigger machine style pads.

I was about to get all butthurt cause I bought my S4 in April but... There's no major difference. Cool if you don't want to go all out on an S4+F1 combo but you want to dabble with remix decks I guess, and mapping the flux mode button to those useless tempo buttons has me kicking myself for not believeing it out before. Apart from that, the only improvement I can imagine is component quality (which given the identical price tag can't be that much better) and maybe jog-wheels that actually back spin.

The S4 is more than capable of doing anything you want. You got a good price.

I agree and would recommend the same.

Maybe they will pull an apple and come out with a cheaper version and more expensive version at the same time.

The cheaper version will pretty much be like the old s4 and the more expensive version will have more features.

At least one could hope, since this is a little disappointing.

Maybe they added innofaders + touch sensitive jog wheels without magnets so they can back spin (like CDJs).

I just compared the faders on my S4 to the ones in the picture. They DEFINITELY look like full length faders now.

I thought the same thing. If that's the case, and they made the buttons more durable, I'd probably upgrade.

I've got a better res copy but idk if its cool to post them yet. So far they've been getting yanked off.

And I don't believe the jogs are chrome. Maybe silver but might just be the reflection.

I don't believe NI would beef the jog wheels up only slightly and deal with redesigning the whole case and fitting the new internals all together and all of those headaches. My guess is it's the same case as was the Maschine MK2 and X1 MK2. And sent you a little bigger/better resolution of the images as well.
