I quitted my professional dj carreer in 2007, mostly due to a lack of challenge and i was getting bored of the music i was hired for. Now with the technolgiy, such as controllerism, it's a brand new challenge and i'm so excited! I'm glad i found out DTT

Hi there. Just really arrived at the community s! Im no dj but have just got a Herclules RMX unit(for home use) It comes with virtual dj (which seems good enough to get me started)

Im still very much finding my way and have just been learning about the unit! Hoping to pick up some tips and friendly advice on the community s here. I probably will at some point want to ask about setting up traktor as my friend currently uses it and asks if the RMX would be a good controller for it.

Dont have any questions at the moment but they will come. Just wanted to say hello and check out the site!

Regards

Best way to get a dj name is to get someone else to choose one for you. There is a psy producer called dick trevor who goes by the dj name "Dickster", i guess thats sorta how i got mine. People just started calling me jester, as my name is jesse

better late, than never!

i'm joe from marburg/germany, doing a student exchange for the last 9 month in spain. bought myself here a bcd3k to see what it's like and it kicks ass.. though will sell it in the near future and get myself a vci100se and a firebox, which is already waiting for me at home, when i'm going back in about a month..

since i've been 99% bedroom dj, i still don't got a real dj name.. thought of "dj joesk", but i'm not sure yet.. any suggestions

my style is tech/progressive-house, electro, techno, sometimes a lil' minimal and i'm trying to get more into dubstep, since i adore this type of music..

Hey, been lurking here for the last couple of weeks. Currently living in the netherlands, but that may or may not change to the UK soon...or Belgium (originally from Australia)

Been djing for the last couple of years but just getting into the digital game. Spent 2 months researching moldover's ableton setup before discovering djranking s and realising the potential of traktor...

Speak to you all soon

Hi

I am AD aka DJ Sarasin from Cape Town, South Africa.

I have been DJing for 12 years and I have been spinning Psytrance at the outdoor parties and festivals for about the last 5 years, however I can pretty much mix anything with a beat and some things without.
I have been producing Psytrance for a few years too using Cubase.

I am a resident for Beartrap Productions but I am not a professional DJ. I have a day job.

I have just upgraded my studio and jumped on the Digital bandwagon.
I got the VCI-100 and Traktor Pro running on a MacBook.

I am now moving into the Electro scene playing Fidget, Disco, DubStep , Minimal Tech and anything that really has balls and a phat bottom.
(That sounds odd.....)

Cheers!

1. Whats your Dj Name/Real Name (optional) - The Amazing Mr. Pants

2. Where you are from (City/Country) - Toronto/Canada

3. Style of music you enjoy playing - see below

Aside from a couple of random posts here (a programming one for upgrading your firmware, and one about headphones) I've been mostly lurking. Mainly because I've "semi-retired" from DJ'ing.

All in all, I spent a good 11 years DJ'ing in clubs, with a weekend residency for 5 of them (always a packed house I should add). I moved to a new, much larger city to focus on my day job career and essentially stopped DJ'ing out aside from the very occasional party (very liberating I might add, although I've been getting the itch to get back out there lately).

I've become a bit schizophrenic when it comes to the sound I want to play... one minute it's tech-house, the next it's dubstep, the next is really chilled hip-hop... heck even an industrial set isn't a stretch. Sometimes I'll just mix all that stuff together (not that I could ever get away with that at any club that I've ever seen - although I did manage to get a goth club dancing to Soulja Boy - Crank That).

My next project is going to be a very artistic evening consisting of a deep house set (or two... it's going to be hard to not play for 4 or 6 hours like I'm used to) from me, a nice melodic guitar/vocal set from a friend, combined with either an art show or a photography show. It's the first step, I'm hoping to make this a more regularly occurring event with the style kind of free-flowing... one month there may be a band, the next might be some kind of dance troupe or a film showing etc. but always with at least 3 forms of art happening. Just something to allow different types of artists to mingle and explore each others art.

3. Style of music you enjoy playing. .... anything with a decent 4/4 beat.

I'm 36 years young now and I've been DJing since 1992 when i bought my first set of crappy belt drive decks. I'm now looking to progress(!?) in to digital work as I have to clear my play room for my daughter. I'm even considering selling all my vinyl, decks, mixer and flight cases (etc.) to finance this.

I'll post a pic of my set up when I'm sober.
