NI kontrol M1 (member mockup)

Idea I had:
2 channel mixer controller module.
same size as the X1, same knobs and colours.
I did a little photoshop and came up with this.
comments, ideas and bumps are welcome.
I will update the picture when a good idea comes in and I find some time.
in the picture there are some labels on the buttons, in the real version I'd rather not have that. just to show you guys what is what.

personally I'd like it to have the same face plate and LED colours and buttons as the kontrol X1. but maybe thats just me.
This is pretty much exactly what I wished I could find.

I like the look of that.

Just realized that the mockup of the M2 a few pages back is near as damn it identical to the Z1.

No worries, nice contribution.

I see my z-4 sketchup has died from this topic... :s

Just came with an idea of extending the s4esque deck controls with a Touch-Stripe.

Hah, just realized, that this thread died long time ago

Originally I wanted to build an s4 mod (see picture in above post) but decided this would demand an intensive brain (probably a Livid as my programming skills aren't upto more open-source brains such as Arduino).

Not feeling confident if I would be able to get it all together I thought that a good substitute might be 2 Kontrol x1s with a DIY 4 channel midi mixer in the middle. This essentially would give me the same control as my original design. For the time being I'll probably only have 1 x1 (cost) but that will give me enough control over decks A+B and C+D I can use more sparingly.

The design of the mixer is similar to the mixer section of what I what I was believeing originally:

fourchannelmixer.jpg

I'm planning High, Mid, Low EQ and then I would like a Key knob on each channel. I'd be happy to have this as an effect but as far as I know, none of the effects in Traktor can substitute for the key knob.

I'm believeing a UMC32 which would cover all these controls (plus an additional four knobs..perhaps filters).

I'm trying to keep size down for portability..believeing the same dimensions as the X1 (so similar in concept to the earlier posts in this thread). I'd have to have a usb hub to connect the x1 and the DIY mixer (laptop only has 2 usb ports and need one for audio2dj), I should be able to get away without a powered hub while maintaining low latency?

Would be interested in your thoughts/feedback/opinions on the controller/the UMC and anything I might have missed. I'm still very much in the planning (and acquiring funds) stage but hopefully will get this off the ground soon.

Also reaslied I'll have to wait till the new UMC chips come out, hopefully in April. http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9108

there's a rumour that the new UMC32 will support encoders...

I've been enjoying this thread and below is something I believe that would be perfect for my needs. What I came up with is kind of a remodelled s4. You'll have to excuse my below-par photoshop skills but I believe you can get the idea.

There's a few controls missing but I left out things I usually don't change that often to keep size down for portability. Before i resized it for the thread it was 30x24cm.

I'd like to add a key knob for each deck somewhere and maybe a scroll/scrub knob. The new version of Traktor may require different controls.

Suggestions/feedback?

And if anyone has come across a controller that's close/comparable to this I'd love to know

Mm would have been good if NI had made something like this already, perhaps they don't believe the no-jogwheel market is big enough? I'm not sure.

Yeah was believeing encoders would possibly be the next thing on the UMC (don't know that I'd have a use for it - at least, not on this design)

thanks wish it was more than a concept haha. I've been flicking through the diy threads/websites. There are 132 controls in that picture so don't even know which chip would support that. And I imagine it would cost a fair bit to make

Because I've added maschine buttons to the top, there is no need for the bottom hotcue buttons. Any ideas on filling that gap? Sample faders??

Also, there is space above the mixer gains as I've just doubled them up.

I've added 4 track position waveforms to the top as well which probably couldn't look like that.. Definitely would be amazing to have a track indicator stacked like that though to avoid being run out.

What you guys believe?? I'd buy one.
Yeah thats the kind of thing i would love to own. I'd pay top doller for it too.

NI missed a trick when they released the S4 for me, this covers all angles.

maybe add some extra function buttons at the top of every unit. to add some possibilities for global controls. that's what I like about the midi4loop.
the possibility to control every feature in the software.

will add those tomorrow
Florida Fjeld

Maybe so. All essential items though.

With the FX2, you can make use of the top row of buttons/faders with the new S4 software and control the sample decks, as that needs to be addressed. If you keep your X1's, that means you don't have to mess about with those annoying shift buttons..

Id pay 1k for the set. I feel thats a reasonable amount.

I'd like that collection too. maybe without the "old" X1's
problems is, if you take the same price for the units as the X1, the price for that is alot higher then the midi4loop.

without the 2 X1's its cheaper tho

This thread is the most interesting read i have seen for a while. When news first broke about NI's S4 coming out, i thought that was the answer to all our challenges. As we have all learnt, it wasn't.

I was waiting for an all singing all dancing 4 deck/4 fx/ 4 transport mixer (Similar to 4midiloop less the price tag) to emerge.

Now i have seen this concept, i am swaying towards having various individual units that can be plugged together (Pure genius) and added to as much or as little as one requires. Subsequently meaning none of these controllers will become outdated, and allowing future adaptations to be incorporated.

I am in full support of this "project".

2 X M2, 2 X X2, 2 X X1, 2 X FX1.
