RGAS - Rapid Gear Aquisition Syndrome
Posted on: 12.04.2011 by Gloria Lemmel
Please light one for my bank account.

I've spent more since I got into controllerism (the last couple of months) than I have in 3 years. Can someone say Black Card Candidate? I can't. Too broke. I've gone through phases before where I spend large sums at once, but never in this quantity.

I got a Kontrol S4, Odyssey Flight Case for the S4, Midi Fighter, Scratch Upgrade for the S4, Fluorescent Orange Control Vinyl, M-Audio Axiom Pro 49, Pro Tools 9, Ableton Suite 8, Novation Launchpad (kind of free from the parents [A Nice Gift I might Add.]), 8GB RAM, 1TB WD Scorpio Blue Hard Drive, Denon HP-1000 Headphones, A Shit Ton of Jasmine Tea (Not Sure Why, but it tastes and smells like...well...amazing.) and Shure SE215 IEMs.

Like...What the Hell. What happened to my generally behaved spending habits... I'd assume that I'm also not the only one in this boat either, so along with lighting one for me, pour one for the foreclosed homies.

Oh dear... I may just have bought an odyssey coffin case, a stand and a pair of Westone UM3X IEMs... not cos I need them, but cos I've always had problems with earbuds not fitting properly and falling out so I wanted some over the ear beasts. I believe triple driver might have been slight overkill, but I sure as hell won't hear anyone bitching about it. Or the bus that's about to run me over.

Yet another thing I'd never have thought of if I weren't a regular on this site... Damn you DJTT!!!

P.S. Anyone want to buy my kidney?

Did a little DJing about 10 years ago, about 8 years ago put the CD players in a box in the attic and sold the TTs. In the last few months I've gotten back in. RGAS hits really hard when you don't do your homework, haha

Cortex HDC-1000, used once and put it back in the box.
Numark Mixtrack Pro
keystudio 49 (had this for a few months but never really used it)
MPK Mini
APC20
13" MBP
T. Pro 2
Kontrol X1
Audio 8

now I just need some turntables and a new set of monitors

Packed up my decks 3 years ago due to my "boys room" being occupied by the mother in law. At that time i sold my Serato Scratch Live (best thing i'd ever owned at the time). Got the bug again in Jan 2010 and since then bought (and sold some of):

Launchpad (sold)
LPD8 (sold)
Ableton Live 8
APC40
Reloop Digital Jockey (for Sale)
Trackor Pro
Kontrol X1 (sold)
Midi-Fighter
Traktor 2 upgrade
Just made one more purchase 5 days ago...... S4!

I put my RGAS down to trying to find a controller and software that suits my style. Hopefully that will settle down now!!

At the top are a laptop stand & bag, but from there, the pricetags start getting bigger...

As an aside, can anybody recommend a good bag capable of taking a Mixtrack/S4 + 17" laptop + headphones/random crap that is backpack style. I love the capacity of the DJTT bag, need a backpack! None of this manbag crap for me

Let the RGAS begin....
The novation 25 bag. It's a backpack made to fit a 25 key MIDI Keyboard, so it should fit your stuff perfectly. If you want more stability, Odyssey has some great backpacks and Chrome, which is a bicycle messenger bag company has a few backpacks that are extremely protective.

..Well... I still bought more... I got a set of Pioneer HDJ-2000s coming in the mail. My Denons aren't working too great, and instead of doing what a regular person would by contacting the dealer, I just bought some HDJs for the relatively low price of $250. At least I didn't buy them from Pioneer directly, would have been at least $200 more.

I'm also going to be broker than ever. I started an Ibiza fund in my bank account where 10% of each deposit goes into a set fund for a ridiculous trip to Ibiza when I turn 21. I'm really excited for it, but I know I'm gonna have to lay of quite a few late evening dominos orders.

You JEST of the GIST of the thread.

I find it educating....as it gives the newer guys an idea of why the bit of advice is given about believeing it through in the beginning?

Else you buy a shit ton of stuff you don't want....and the selling and rebuying fuels the bargain hunting gene....and yeah....nasty circle....

I've been relatively conservative, slowly building up from am x-session pro to a full timecoded setup with two X1s but no "real " decks.
Over the last year I have had very strong feelings towards Xone mixers and only didn't get a 42 cause I'd just sprung for tsp and decks.
The price went up from around 670

Hmm brief summary of my DJing purchases...

Skullcandy SK Pro (not using anymore though they're a good backup pair... I bought them for listening really) (150)
VCI 100 (plain silver... bought black knobs later) (400+ 40)
Traktor Pro Upgrade (80)
Midi Fighter (MK-1 yeahhhhh) (200)
Presonus Firebox (Firewire soundcard) (225)
Ultrasone DJ 1 Pro Headphones (totally amazing) (215)
Custom Midi Fighter (Super awesome!) (450)

All told it's almost $1800 of spending... and I'm a student so I really have no money unless I save like mad... pretty happy with myself
