RGAS - Rapid Gear Aquisition Syndrome

Please light one for my bank account.

I've spent more since I got into controllerism (the last couple of months) than I have in 3 years. Can someone say Black Card Candidate? I can't. Too broke. I've gone through phases before where I spend large sums at once, but never in this quantity.

I got a Kontrol S4, Odyssey Flight Case for the S4, Midi Fighter, Scratch Upgrade for the S4, Fluorescent Orange Control Vinyl, M-Audio Axiom Pro 49, Pro Tools 9, Ableton Suite 8, Novation Launchpad (kind of free from the parents [A Nice Gift I might Add.]), 8GB RAM, 1TB WD Scorpio Blue Hard Drive, Denon HP-1000 Headphones, A Shit Ton of Jasmine Tea (Not Sure Why, but it tastes and smells like...well...amazing.) and Shure SE215 IEMs.

Like...What the Hell. What happened to my generally behaved spending habits... I'd assume that I'm also not the only one in this boat either, so along with lighting one for me, pour one for the foreclosed homies.

Yeah dude...I am feeling ya!

I have decided to split my rig up in order to utilize it more fully and properly.

Getting a mixer so I can DVS and hook up my KP3.

Then I got my APC80 and whatnot for internal style mixing.

Not that I am sick of it...but I need to get more out of it.

I just sold everything besides the MF and one X1 and bought the DNX1600 and another X1. Reason? Most of it was close to a year old. I'll probably do the same next year as well.

That's pretty much exactly the setup that's been on my mind lately... Its funny, before going digital I would try to implement every little trick I could believe of to make things more complex, and when I made the switch last year I just thought "I can do so many more things with so much less effort!" Now that I have pretty much limitless possibilities, I find myself just wanting to line up two tracks and leave all the editing to the studio.

I anticipate I'll probably want something different no matter what I've got, but I believe I'll pick up a pair of techs regardless since they never really go out of style.

also
SL cards hold their value fantastically
Seems to be very true. Been looking and used SL boxes go for near retail, while there are massively discounted NI boxes all over the place.

btw SSL users, does anyone know how to turn on the beatgrid display and bar numbers permanently? Sometimes tracks have them and sometimes they don't, it's pretty confusing

Pretty much that. Like I said I got a bonus from work so I had the money, and SL cards hold their value fantastically because they come with software and no fucking around with licences (you can still pay like

I went recently when I got back into things from an S4 then sold it to get CDJ 400s, DJM 400. Sold the DJM and upgraded to a 700. THen just got a coffin case, rokit 8s, and hd25s. Although now i pretty much mix without software at all, I still have my traktor software, midifighter and audio 4 just chillin.

I'll always want whatever I don't have... the only reasonable solution to this is to buy everything.

Contemplating just getting another 2-channel mixer that would fit a simple system better than the DB4. Dunno... I guess I'm looking for a "natural" DVS solution that still feels like vinyl without the record crates. I can't actually point out anything that would make TSP less viable, but I'm somehow more intrigued by SSL anyways. Could you compare your experience having used both TSP and SSL?
BECAUSE RGAS. duh.

If you want a more pure DVS check out xwax. Serato is almost as complex as traktor these days.

This thread is making me jealous i feel like raiding my bank account.

I have since 2009:

In random order.
Sony Vaio (2008 model)
Vci 100se
Technics Rph1200
Audio 8
Tsp
TraktorPRO2
lpd8
Numark Mixdeck (For mobile gigs)
+ Various other pieces of gear inc various Microphones, Pa systems and lights.

My virtual penis feels extremely small at the moment.

At least i have a MacBook Pro 13inch on order.

Got the SL-2, loving serato so far. In different ways than how I love Traktor. I can definitely make a better sound with Traktor (at the moment anyway), and I know the software like the back of my hand, but in terms of absorption into the process I do feel more involved with serato.

I'm not switching completely any time soon, but it's certainly a great thing to have! Now if I could just make the X1 work properly...

Indeed!

My residency got the Xone:92 a couple years back...and I HATED it at first.

Did not know how to mix with the 4 band EQ.

But read up....got the hang of it real quickly and ended up loving it!

So yeah....big fan!

those are hdx's... much better the the cdx's cuz after the cd drive goes out i can still rely on the hdd... lol, got a cdx aswell though

honestly they are alot better in my opinion then both traditional cdjs and vinyl. no need to buy timecode (its on the hdd) no need to buy needlez, and higher torque the a 1200. way better then the denons aswell be cause lag is not really noticeable at all.

my single wish is that numark would remake the hdx or cdx with midi and a usb drive (save on cost so no hdd, and once the cd drive goes bad just rely on a jump drive)

Im using a audio 10 for timecode, but gettin an audio 6 because then i wont need a power supply for my gigs. also as a backup or for when i gig with friends... realistically probly going to get both an audio 6 and an audio 8 (biggest regret)

My lovely audio 10

my girlfriend went away last wednesday, since having free reign on my wallet i have bought a livid block, a mac book air and a cme uf60 keyboard. Next weeks paycheck is going on fostex monitors. I need her to come back and remind me i need to at least pay the rent so all my shinys have a roof over them.

haha... my business definately boomed in the past year...

i went from this in early 2010

to this being ONE of my setups...

not to mention that i went half in with a buddy on a production stuido...

all in all... this year, i believe ive spent shy of 10k... not including new computers. just dj n production gear and software... mostly all at cost

been a fun ride this year, got my first gig in vegas planned for nov. gonna probly be getting a kontrol s4 later this month, then looking into an audio 6, and possibly a djm-X00 (could be 800 or 900) possibly a denon 1600..

edit:
forgot to mention TTX's are in my near future...

Lost an ebay auction on a pair of CDJ2000s last evening . Five minutes after the auction closed I got an e-mail stating that the high bidder backed out and I had the chance to take them at my price... I didn't see the e-mail til this morning.

Two more pairs up to end next monday, might end up sniping four.

If I wasn't basically confined to the couch due to foot injury, I would probably already be out buying some cables (MIDI, patch cables, ...) for directly connecting the ESX to the EMX I already own. Then again I don't even have desk real estate for it - fitting in the Dn-SC2000 a month ago was tedious but possible, but now the ESX? That's a harder task...
Tatum Ansaldo
14.06.2011
Lol, I was exactly the same with my DJM-800. I knew every feature of it back to front from the manual weeks before I actually got it (I spent ages lurking on ebay for a good price).

And don't get me started on the Novation Twitch.

Damn, how I hate the impatience which is connected with RGAS. Bought an Electribe ESX on ebay this weekend and now all that impatience kicks in (among other things I'm already reading the manual as PDF cause im so eagerly awaiting the box - even though I know it might not arrive here before the weekend or even the beginning of next week)

In the last month solely for the purpose of DJing/production...
Xone DB4 (was supposed to ship May 23, still waiting on a backorder...)
MPK49
iPad

and somewhat related, though not solely for making/mixing tunes:
KRK Rokit 6's with proper monitor stands
Ultrasone Pro 900

and before that...
Denon DN-S1200s (gone)
Denon DN-X120 (gone)
Pioneer DJM909 (gone)
Akai APC40
Ableton Suite
2011 Macbook Pro 13" w/ SSD optibay mod
Technics RP-DJ1200
Sony MDR-V700
an bunch of cables, batteries, and other strange things for playing out in unconventional environments (such as the beach)

Thinking about adding a 27" iMac in, but I'm not so sure its worth bothering to swap files back and forth with my laptop, as nothing I do is terribly hardware intensive.

At least I seem to be doing better than many of you in terms of buying stuff and then deciding to go another direction, my only big sell-off came from the shift from CDJ+mixer to digital DJing.
Tatum Ansaldo

sigh. ok, where's my scalpel. I'll have to get some ice from down the road, just hoping it doesn't go off on the plane to argentina.

EDIT: BLOOD, SO MUCH BLOOD....... HOW THE FUCK DO YOU TURN THIS THING OFF?!?!
