CDJ-2000 looks like it has been discontinued- time for the CDJ-2000 Nexus speculation

So it looks like the CDJ-2000 is officially discontinued according to a few sources and the CDJ-2000 Nexus will be released in April.

Have any photos or details been leaked? I'm hoping for better screens and scrolling waveforms. What else could they add?

The best thing about DJing at the moment in my opinion is all the different ways you can express your self through technology. You can spin a record on a pair of 1200's or you can do a live set on a midi fighter in Ableton or use CDJ's. Why would you want to take a step backwards when there is so much fun and innovation coming from these technologies.
Beatmatching is one of approximately seven different characteristics of a transition, but the only one that is "technically" required to mix "smoothly." People who take the time to listen and learn about tempo and phase often actually listen, something that is mostly far beyond the average sync DJ. Being forced to listen to at least phase requires to you monitor and pay attention to your mix, syncing requires neither. I've seen more than one sync DJ mix without headphones, fader slamming synced tracks and finding that quite acceptable. Without sync, they would be forced to actually use their ears, a talent seems to be long lost on the average teenage twat with a controller.

A beat counter or meter is more of a tool, since it isn't automated, you still can't check phase without listening. And any competent CDJ user knows how to work a pitch fader blind, even if they've only ever used a BPM counter (hint: do some quick math before your set.)

I would argue using EQ ing properly and knowing where to drop a track into another requires technique and skill and knowledge of the music your playing, which the later is the most important part of a smooth mix. Beat matching is just the hardest skill to pick up initially but pretty simple once you know how to do it. Sync just free's up time to do more with a track and to help with the beat matching just like the beat counters did.

Anyway pioneer will have sync on their flag ship gear at some stage so the end is near for all the 'real' DJ's .

Agreed. No one's forcing you to use the sync button. It's there if you want it, really. I believe that between sync and slip you can do a lot of good tricks with these.

Yeah really if you don't want to use it don't touch it. I own Traktor and only use sync if I'm layering more than two tracks on top of each other. When I'm beat matching manually the sync button is right there but I don't even believe about using it. It's an awesome tool for freeing up time to do new things beyond blending two tracks together. If Pioneer don't implement it they will be left in the dust soon

I am an old school DJ too, 25 years and counting and I could care less if there's a sync button, just cause it's there doesnt mean you have to use it, put some tape over it, problem solved or maybe Pioneer should put a setting in the menu to disable it if it really bothers people that much, lol
