DJTT Mix competition - Whos got the balls?
DJTT Mix competition - Whos got the balls? Posted on: 10.08.2012 by Lawana Spratlen Who wants to go in a head to head mix off?We can do a knockout competition and run a vote. Kinda like a mix train but a bit different. The rules (Any input welcome): 30 - 45 min Any Genre Any format ie vinyl, traktor, ableton, serato or whatever! Whos in? Put your names down and I will randomly sort out who plays against who | |
23.08.2012 | 7 months ago isn't that old. The mix is a bit meh though (especially for a studio mix), I see why you didn't post it. The levels are all over the place and some of the transitions are a bit staid, not much layering or long mixes, just intro into outro. |
Lawana Spratlen 23.08.2012 | Got an old mixcloud and soundcloud, no recent mixs though, havnt uploaded for a few months |

Leeanna Ayla 23.08.2012 | I'm not going to get into ableton vs traktor vs all vinyl. Someone could say the did their mix with 14 gold played turntables and without a video there's no way to prove it. I'm open to changing the genre list as I won't start voting polls on those till the end. So speak up if you believe we should combine some categories. |

Rey Holubar 23.08.2012 | How about starting a poll with a list of genres, as the first step, to even see who would put up a mix in that genre? If say less than 7 people put in their vote for a genre, then that genre wouldn't make it into that contest (believeing we may do more than one here). Or only take the top 3 or 4 voted genres for the contest? scamo |

There are many different sub genres to choose from; you could enter a house mix that could be deep house, tech house, electro house etc. and they would sound markedly different. So grouping 2 or 3 genres together, i.e. house, techno, trance would just make it much more complicated |
Leeanna Ayla 22.08.2012 | I'm working on rules right now and getting some mod opinions. When I get some answers I'll post the rules. |
Rey Holubar 22.08.2012 | Yes, I know. But what you are looking for is also harder to judge, because it gets into a very specific realm of subjectivity. scamo |

Rey Holubar 22.08.2012 | This is an example of a contest already held by DJTT. I'd like to see something similar, despite the wishes for longer playtime. Maybe the playtime could be extended to 15 minutes? http://www.djranking s.com/2008/09/2...x-competition/ scamo |

Group 1 can be any type of house/techno or trance Group 2 can be either drum and bass or dubstep Group 3 can be hip hop/ chart music then the winner of each group can then be voted on and the winner of that becomes king of england for a day? |

Coldcut's Journeys by DJ
|
22.08.2012 | I don't know how you're meant to judge different genres against each other, I mean what's the better mix - Coldcut's Journeys by DJ, Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposure or Derrick Carter's Back 2 Basic's mix? I've listened to all of those a lot, but I couldn't tell you which is the best mix of the 3. |
Alona Durfee 22.08.2012 | Id throw down a mix for sure... |

Lawana Spratlen 21.08.2012 | Can one of the mods sort this out? - Decide on the final rules - Set up a place for uploading tunes |
Kasi Marget 20.08.2012 | Pre defined set of tracks ? Ahahaha. We are supposed to have fun while DJing and participating in the competition. I don't really like the idea to spin a genre I hate. On the other hand, whoever said that the genre of the mix will influence the voting of the community is right. That's the reason why I believe we should have a panel of judges that are experienced, and the panel should cover the whole "EDM spectrum" of genres. I see some problems about that though : - Judges have to be picked wisely because they have to be capable of having an opinion on the mixing skills without being influenced whether they like the music or not. - Judges will not be able to participate - There won't be a big amont of judges that are capable and willing - They will have at least 30mins/1h of careful listening to do everyday if we don't want the competition to take 2 years to be over. Not everyone can be that dedicated to an online competition.. We also have to decide, if we adopt this judging system, how do we decide who won ? 1) Every judge gives each DJ a note (internally, the audience does not know who gave what), and we remove the lowest and the highest note of every DJ, and do the average. The DJ with the highest average wins, and his note is "published". 2) Every judge says who wins in his opinion. The DJ with the most "likes" wins. To do so, we need an odd number of judges. PS : If we want to do a "versus style" competition, we need a number of competitors that suits, like 16,32... PS 2 : I'd put a 1 weed deadline, it's way enough to build a set and record it. |
