Jump Up Dubstep
Posted on: 11.11.2008 by kieran frearson
I have been asked to make a mix for a friend with dubstep, and frankly, I do not know where to begin, since its not really my style of music. I LIKE it, and I have some stuff, but not that much.

Its not my world so to say. I would like to get some more though, and I would like to make this mix for my dear friend (Its for his housewarming party in 2 months). I told him he can download some of the internet (there are plenty of mixes available online) but he just wants ME to make a mix haha Stubborn fuck! (Well, I do feel flattered!)

So, could you people that are into the Dubstep recommend me some Dubstep? I dont mind if its dark or light, as long as it grooves!

Thank you very much in advance!

(In return, I will post the mix here, if its worth anything lol)

Kind regards,

Nemo

Yeah that La Roux remix is requested more than the original which i do not understand beacause there is no beat in it for 1:49 mins ...
People will just stand there looking around until it gets going.

You gotta play it over the beat of the previous track and loop it .

No matter how much you get nagged to play that track i does not work in the club played on its own.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen a mention of Radio One's Breezeblock Dubstep Wars special (hosted by Mary Ann Hobbs) in this thread. This is the show that is widely considered to be the first 'introduction' of the dubstep genre to a major audience. It was first aired in 2006 and re-broadcast in 2008. I still have this broadcast in my Favorites playlist on the 'pod.

Here is a link to the show and the playlist -->

You can't get your dubstep badge without listening to this show.

Kinda on the soully side of dubstep. Sometimes sounds out of place with other dubstep tunes, but great for dropping into eclectic mixes.

Its not by Benga its Babysham (Both sides), Skream played Black Widow Spiders. Deep track, tho theres something weird about the bass, I find I need to EQ it to fuck to get it to play nice with other tracks... not sure.

Heres some dubstep I've been listening to recently. I need more plates!

Zomby - Strange Fruit / Liquid Dancehall
Tes La Rok - Ignition
Excision - Wasted
Marlow - Jigsaw / Ominous
Stenchman - Powerful Magical / Puking Over / Signs / All his shit tbh
Crissy Criss - Soap Dodger
Joker - Play Doe
Reso - If Ya Cant Beat Em
Synkro - Get Down
Chase & Status - Saxon
Artwork - Red <- Oldschool dubstep.
KMA - Cape Fear <- Oldschool dark Garage (getting this on Vinyl Woot!)
Tech Itch - One of Us
Magnetic Man (AKA Skream + Benga + Artwork!!!1one) - Cyberman

If you fancy mixing it up, have a listen to Skream's remix of La Roux 'In for the Kill'. The voice suits the dub, it's quite dark and minimal and then switches at the end into some breaks. Nice

16 bit brings the heat, cept for that tune M dot Mosley.

Think that tune needs an insane system to drop it on, whenever I have played it out ive always mixed out real quick.

+ the vocal sample is really hard to bring out over anything else

Check out Fabriclive.37 - Caspa and Rusko, good variety of classics..very wobbly. If you don't like the wobble so much, try the Bay Area Dubstep albums.

edit: Rusko - Pro Nails (Remix) is one of the songs that got me into dubstep.
