Jump Up Dubstep
Posted on: 11.11.2008 by kieran frearson
I have been asked to make a mix for a friend with dubstep, and frankly, I do not know where to begin, since its not really my style of music. I LIKE it, and I have some stuff, but not that much.

Its not my world so to say. I would like to get some more though, and I would like to make this mix for my dear friend (Its for his housewarming party in 2 months). I told him he can download some of the internet (there are plenty of mixes available online) but he just wants ME to make a mix haha Stubborn fuck! (Well, I do feel flattered!)

So, could you people that are into the Dubstep recommend me some Dubstep? I dont mind if its dark or light, as long as it grooves!

Thank you very much in advance!

(In return, I will post the mix here, if its worth anything lol)

Kind regards,

Nemo

Sssst. Keep your opinions to yourself. It never ends good when you use words like skrillex and brostep.

Sick tune though. The bass really pushes it.

Can we revive this ?

All the other genre threads are pretty good. I really like the dnb and deep house threads.

Oh yeah, and I believe it's best we just post tunes and avert discussion

Rusko played Jahova during his 2011 NYC Electric Zoo set, it was during the mid afternoon and only 20% of the crowd was in the park at that point so it was a spread out and laid-back environment (believe sitting and chilling and throwing frisbees rather than packed in like sardines and jumping and sweating) and he threw on Jahova and a few of his older songs, everyone absolutely LOVED it. I really enjoy Rusko live, seen him 3 or 4 times at 2 or 3 different venues.

Some more Rusko that I believe you might like:

It's not quite where's my money or something, but sort of the same vibe in a way imo (wobbles and all that). The old stuff is great, a lot of humour in it really and not to be taken seriously at all - can't say I care much for newer popular stuff.

You'd call that 'jump up'? For me that term entails high energy D&B, not laid back dubby dubstep. Not that those 2 aren't both really good tracks, btw. It's been ages since I've heard jahova.

Anyone mix more of the classic jump up sound? I'm talking the early Caspa/Rusko stuff - specifically things with a lot of Dub influence.

A good example would be

Radikal Guru - Strong Dub

or of course Rusko - Jahova

Didn't go through all 27 pages.... but some that MAY not have been mentioned...

Rogue
Tristam
Savant
Ajapai
The Chillers
Cutline
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Kode9
Loefah
Meta (find Phoenix Down, holy crap!)
Rustie (more glitch than dubstep, but still cool)

Most of the other one's I've got in my list should've been covered!

Digging, Rusko the most at the moment, his minimal mixed with large sounds on his new-ish record are just doing it for me.

when you can make a song about willie wonka candy sound aggressive, you've got a talent for it.

^^^good list^^^

I'd add to that:

Mitis
Eptic
Diesel
Ry Legit
Zomboy
Koan Sound
Kill the Noise
Knife Party

those last two aren't exclusively dubstep, but check out "Bonfire" by Knife Party(Drumstep actually) and the Kill the Noise remix of "Spitfire" by porter robinson. actually, that one is drumstep too, but oh well, drumstep rules.

and here's another free track at 110 bpm
Flux Pavillion "Bass Cannon" (Lost Boys WDAGF 110 remix)
Bass Cannon is a kind of overplayed, but people still go nuts for it and this is a damn good remix.

For Hard Dubstep, you really can't go wrong with Mark Instinct. Check out some his stuff on soundcloud he's got some free downloads, including a track called "Apollo" that is a real banger.

For softer stuff, I really dig Adventure Club. They also have a bunch of free stuff on soundcloud. Especially check out "Crave You", "rise and fall" and "Do I see Color".
