Sosik's VCI-300 2D TSI [BETA]
Posted on: 28.02.2009 by Velvet Schinke
2 Sleepless evening s and here we go - my vci-300 mapping is almoust done.
I'm not a professional dj or a producer, started recently and it seems to work out slowly.
What you will get here is my Traktor Pro 1.1.1 mapping for vci-300 which I tried to make Itch-like as much as possible. So basicly you will have such functions as CUE/PLAY, PFL A/B, SCROLL, Playlist/Browser Navigation, AUTO TEMPO / SYNC, SHIFT, EQ's, AUTO LOOP and all other basic stuff beside CUE's, working like they should(I hope :P). Also I set up a realy nice FX1(chained) interface on the controller, hope you will like it.

All kind of feedback is appreciated, its beta and still requires alot of work.

HOW TO USE?
All basic functions are same as Itch.

Navigation:
- UP/DOWN to select up and down in the list/tree
- TAB to switch between tree and list
- BACK/FWD to Collapse/Expand the tree
- SCROLL to scroll with left or right Jog's through list
- [SCROLL] + PFL A/PFL B to load a track into deck A/B
- PFL A/PFL B to turn monitor for deck A/B on

- [SHIFT] + KEY LOCK(left/right) to turn snap/quant mode on

- [SHIFT] + BACK/FWD to copy deck A<B/A>B

Misc:
- [SHIFT] + CENSOR to activate filter
- [SHIFT] + TRIM = Filter amount

- [SHIFT] + X-Fader to seek through decks

FX Chained(Left side):
- [SHIFT] + CRATES activates the FX1 interface + LED "interface" on controller
- TRIM = Dry/Wet, HIGHT/MID/LOW = Effect 1/2/3 Amount
- CUE1/IN, CUE2/IN, CUE3/IN = Effect 1, 2, 3 Select Next

UPDATES(04.05.09)

New in 0.2:
- Smart Scratching*
Scratch on fly while playing(Itch-like)
- FX2 Advanced
Easy to use control with nice LED interface
- Fully functional middle controller part
Browsing, track loading, cue monitoring, everyting Itch-like with some smart controls
- Added many new controls to cover more TPro functions
- Fixed some bugs for better VCI-300 - TPro interaction
- Few small tweaks

New in 0.2.1 - 0.2.2:
- X-Fader seek
- Small fix to reset Tempo Bend to 0.0% (accurate for 1/10% only)
Even TP build in function to reset tempo does not fully reset it

- Added description for filter control
- Added EQ mode "while in FX mode"

* Since TPro is mixing up signals of both jog-wheels I would not recommend you to scratch with both at the same time.

Have fun!

try installing ASIO4ALL drivers (in case you haven't already). this should solve the issue.

Tell me some more about your problem and I`ll try harder

I also need help with this TSI and a friends PC. My mac works fine but on the PC I only get 2 in and 2 out from the VCI in the output routing. Why is this? I get 4 in and 4 out on my mac. Everything else is perfect but I need 4 in and 4 out. Does anybody know how to fix this?

I can help.

First of all go into preferences-Midi Mapping and locate the master/cue knob. You have a choice to invert the knob. Do it and the index on the VCI under the knob will be correct (moves exactly in the oposite direction of the knob that is called mix in the global view of Traktor).
Your output settings needs to be adjusted. Choose internal mixer and set master output to VCI-300 channel 0 and channel 1. Always remember that right/left needs to correspond in respect to odd- or pair number. When you have done this, headphone cueing will work perfectly with this TSI.
To activate FX advanced you also need to check your preferences under FX. Make sure that the same options are selected for both FX1 and FX2 except for the fact that FX1 is set to chained and FX2 is set to Advanced.
To activate FX2 on the VCI you need to press Shift and the Pitch Bend down button (small black buttons next to the pitch fader.). Activating both FX1 (up) and FX2(down) is done on both sides of the VCI depending on which deck you want the FX to apply to. Either both A and B (small red leds on both left and right) or A or B (leds on left or right) or none (no leds) . NB use Soulst explaination of this TSI to better understand this, his definetly more eloquent then I am.

Hope this helps a little bit. Could have posted my settings if I only knew how to do it

PS: Techtools has promised a mindaltering TSI for the VCI-300 to be released soon!

I can't cue in headphones either, the cue button is on, volume up and fader knob set to cue, no sound at all. How did you fix it?
Dallas Casa
29.04.2009
I got both FX2 and Cueing to work perfectly. Just needed som adjusting in audio preferences. NB The master/cue button should be inversed so as to work logically for a DJ. When rotated towards master, you only hear master in the headphones, when rotated towards cue, you get both master and the selcted PFL (A or B) in a mix until eventually you only hear the cue when the knob is turned completely to the right. You mapped it the other way around Sosik. Extremely clever mapping of FX and now my VCI 300 works just like my TT`s and Pioneer DJM600 mixer if I dont turn on FX. Perfect!

did you activate pfl-a / pfl-b? did you set the cueing channels in the traktor pro settings? did you turn the monitor level knob? did you set monitor select to cue?

Definitely the best VCI-300 map for traktor pro (for me anyways ). Scratching works good enough, effects section is very intuitive. Now only the LED-strips have to work is the problem already resolved where the performance would drastically lower when you use the LED-strips?

Is there a way to just make a TSI for just FX routed to a Nano Krontrol Pad. Where I can add this to TSI?

06.04.2009
I opened up the mapping preferences, but it looks like a foreign language to me! I hope to eventually get into it, for now I just need to get one TSI that works well at a live gig, and yours so far is the most likely!

I'll post a video of what the scratching does for me...I can't get it to work very well.

Thanks!

I got what you mean. I tried to make browsing more Itch-like but you can easily remap browsing to your needs, I added description to some of the functions.
The scratching works always for me, you just have to make sure you have the SCRATCH button ON at the left or right deck.
Ill try to improve the mapping this week when I get more time. Thanks for your feedback!

I'm using 1.1.2 and it still gets stuck at the non-resettable pitch so SYNC won't work. Probably a NI problem?

As far as the browser, it's OK the way you have it, but in my opinion (which may not be a common consensus) the common-sense way to have the center dial work would be to click left to move left in the browser, click right to move right (ie. from the tree on the left to the individual songs on the right), and when you click the center, it would open the tree (or folder).

As far as your note on the scratching, that hasn't worked for me, when you scratch, it only seems to "catch" in the software 10% of the time, the rest of the time, the song just keeps playing while I scratch.

"I only know how to use the Traktor browser the way I'm used to"
As I said, I'm a total newby. Elaborate on the browser and Ill try to enhance browsing control as much as I can(or as much as TPro allows).

The 0.1% problem came with 1.1.1. I'll try to fix it when I get to my controller. Also today while a "small" gig I noticed scratches are a bit of annoying. So I will post fix for that as well. Too bad TPro is fcking up the jog signals...

Thanks for an awesome mapping! I believe this is the best one I've found so far, but the navigation is a bit less than intuitive...I guess because I've never used itch with my VCI-300, I only know how to use the Traktor browser the way I'm used to...but anyway, here's my question:

I use SYNC, and with this TSI, everything works great until a while into a mix when al of a sudden cant get one deck to return to 0.0% pitch. It gets stuck at .1% (or some other amount) and then when you try to SYNC, the other deck WILL NOT set itself to the same BPM, because the MASTER deck won't go to 0%.

The ONLY way to get it back to 0% so I can match with SYNC is to close Traktor and reopen it, which CLEARLY isn't going to fly during a live gig.

Help?

For the left side, FX1 Chained, after you press [SHIFT] + FILES the LED interface should light up. Then you can use HIGH/MID/LOW Knobs to change the amount of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd effects. By pressing OUT1(2,3)/LOOP you will activate the effect(on hold) and by pressing it with [SHIFT] you will toggle it. Pretty similar for the right side, just check on the first page what each button does and you will be good to go.
Its much easier than its seems. :)

Don't know if I'm doing somethig wrong but I can't get the FX to work on the right (A) deck. Using the VCI-300 I can see on the screen the FX on deck A moving as I turn knob but nothing is happening. On deck B I can't even control the FX with the VCI but I can activate them through the laptop. Deck A I can't even activate at all but I can only see the FX move as I turn and push knobs and button on the VCI. How hard can it be to assign the FX to a nanokontrol pad and level as much as possible itch like contol. I wanna help as much as possible so let me know if there is something I can do to help this along.

Updated first post with more info about new tsi and the file itself. No smart cueing this time though. Don't have time to finish it right now.

Also be aware of TPro screwing jog signals. I would recommend you not to scratch with both jogs at the same time because the signals will get mixed and it break your mix.

Feedback appreciated. Have fun! ;)

Hehe I still find it weird that ITCH is so good with scratching, why can't T Pro ressemble this... Good luck with the development of the mapping!

It is accurate in its own way, better said its accurate as much as TPro allows.

Was playing around with my controller again and now a new hot mapping is on its way.

Including:

- Smart Scratch
Now your deck will keep playing and you will be able to scratch on fly(Itch-like)
- Fully functional middle controller part
Browsing, track loading, cue monitoring, everyting Itch-like with some smart controls
- Many small fixes for better TPro - VCI-300 interacting

Will also add FX2(advanced) to the release and will see how I can implement some enhanced cueing control.

If you are running version 1.1.1 or higher you don't need the translator any more.

28.03.2009
Do i have to use the midi translator? i run traktor pro demo.
Velvet Schinke
27.03.2009
Turn your vci-300 on and go to MIDI Setup in TPro. There you choose midi input and output, its either USB Audio Device or the actual name. Turn it on by double clicking on it. Thats it.

Edit: And ofcourse go to MIDI Mapping and import the tsi.

Hi soulst,
very good work.

I am also in search, try it myself, to create a mapping for the vci 300 like in itch.
My aim is only to create the functions as they appear on the vci and working like in itch (especially for the jogwheels and leds).

I hope that we will as soon as possible get a "original/official itch-traktor pro midi mapping".

Thanks (also to claudek and Morbido for their great work)
