Mapping devices with the APC40
Mapping devices with the APC40 Posted on: 12.03.2011 by Greta Goosman Hi thereI use my APC40 with ableton. Out of the box the device controller region/knobbly bits control the device assigned to whichever audio track is highlighted. However, when I try to change the mapping manually it loses this ability. So for example the EQ3 will control whichever audio is prioritised but the selection of knobs is not quite how I like. So I map it as I wish but then it will only control the audio track device which was prioritised when I mapped, so when I adjust the eqs it doesn't change anything on the track I'm interested in. Only work around is to set them on later banks, but I try to minimise how many clicks I need to make so isnt ideal. Is there a way to re-map to the device that is prioritised. Hope that makes sense. Thanks G | |

Greta Goosman 13.03.2011 | Had a quick scan on audio racks. They seem, like devices, to be attached to a specific track. If I had the same rack on three tracks and wanted to map, say the first encoder to a filter. Would turning that encoder control the track that was selected at the time, or the track that was selected when I mapped? Out of interest does anyone find this a bit of a pain? Or is it just me? G |
Nedra Fresneda 12.03.2011 | Put it inside an audio rack. That way you can map the whatever value you want in any position |
Greta Goosman 12.03.2011 | Found out what encoders refers to, and it is those I want to remap for the reasons above. But it sounds like if I want remap I can't choose whether its absolute or variable with regard to the track it controls. Its always absolute. |
Greta Goosman 12.03.2011 | Mapping of encoders? I'm not sure what that refers to. For me it's just which aspects of the device are controlled by which knob. So for EQ 3 (the one with low, mid and high) the knobs control the faders and the frequency sets. I want them to control the faders and the kills. It doesnt seem like a major change to me, just tweaking to a personal preference. G |
Ling Zambada 12.03.2011 | It depends how you want the encoders mapped. What don't you like with the way it's currently controlling them? How do you want that changed? By MIDI mapping, you lose the ability to control whatever track is in focus. |
