S4 - Traktor Pro 2 - Scamo's Effect Jogs Extreme [Version 4.4 Beta] Posted on: 16.01.2012 by Rey Holubar Hi everyone,As promised, here is the next release of my (well our) mapping. I say "our", because I was so brash and have taken modes 5-7 from Alinements "rework" of the mapping and have used them to some degree to fill in the empty modes 5-7. Thanks goes to Alinement for coming up with the additional modes. Because this mapping has so many changes and I've not tested it as much as I'd like to, I am calling it a beta. So use at your own risk in a performance. If you are new to this mapping, there is a manual in the download zip file explaining how to use it. Also please read up in these threads, if you want to know how the mapping evolved. http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=39910 http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=40818 http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=43115 http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=43743 What's new in this mapping? 1. The filter is taken out of mode 4. 2. The T-3 delay has been replaced with just the delay effect in modes 1 and 2. (I am still not sure just the delay is right for mode 1.) 3. Added Alinement's modes 5-7. Here is how he explains them.
Mode 5 - I have added the Flangerflux/FilterPulse/Reverb from Ean's map (Chained FX mode 3). but I have replaced the reverb in the chained effects with a delay T3 that is activated only by FX Button 3 (as its best added in after the original effect takes shape). The Reverb from the original has been placed into the Advanced effect slot in Unit 3 (or 4) and is controlled by the Jog Wheel (along with the Flangerflux and Filterpulse)
Mode 6 - I have added the Beatmasher/LoFi/Filter92LFO (also from DJTT S4 mapping chained FX mode 1) Mode 7 - I have made this control just to control the Advanced effect slot in Unit 3 (or 4) for the BeatSlicer as to the exact specifications of Eans Mapping in DJTT Advanced FX Mode 1. So, that is it. Enjoy and have fun. Any feedback on issues or suggestions is very welcome! scamo Copyright and Usage Anyone can use this mapping free of charge for their own personal or professional use. It MAY NOT be uploaded to any other web site for download or passed on to third parties in its original or modified form without my authorization. | |
Rey Holubar 25.02.2012 | Unfortunately guys and gals, it's been put on the back burner for the moment. Much other excitement I am working on for you all (and no, it isn't another mapping). scamo |
Marget Vasilko 25.02.2012 | How's 4.5 coming along? |
Rey Holubar 21.02.2012 | Midi signals wouldn't really help, since the mode is dictated by the modifier, which is in the software. scamo |
Lachelle Mcmanamon 21.02.2012 | This might be a long shot but is there a little program that reads midi signals and could be placed over the traktor screen to show which mode you are in? I would imagine it wouldn't be too system intensive if all it did was read the signal from the S4...for the iPad too maybe? |
Terrence Karasick 19.02.2012 | Upgraded to TP 2.1.2 and did some more testing. Mapping started to work like expected, so the older version was the problem indeed... Too bad i can't run 2.1.2 I have OLD asus x59gl with t3400 dual gore. And tweaked XP sp3 system (only 17 processes and 120M memory usage at startup). With 2.0.3 im running with 30-40% ish CPU usage and can have all sorts of stuff running without any issues but with 2.1.2 CPU usage is near 100% all the time and S4 alert indicator led becomes beat phase light! Even before i start any effects... You can imagine what that sound like... :/ So for me to get this map working its new laptop or more stable software version it seems... Thank you for nice mapping and fast reply anyway! |
Rey Holubar 19.02.2012 | Small update. I am continuing to work on Version 4.5 today and have come up to the issue I was afraid of. There is no way to dial through the FX modes in both directions with the Gain encoder and change the FX types to have a visual in Traktor about what mode you are in. That is a slight disadvantage to the old method. There is a good advantage though. The advantage will be in the ease of mapping your own effect groups/ modes, as you will only have to use the actual modifier number and also map all the setting commands to the jog wheel touch. I was playing with this type of setup and it isn't that bad either. If you are uncertain what mode you are in, you can check it by simply tapping the jog quickly. This will set up the mode without starting it. With this quick tap, you also don't hear any effect start either. (at least not on my system) I believe, once you gain confidence with the indicator lights and knowing the mode you are in is actually "behind" those lights, the mapping will become intuitive. So I've decided to go this route. Oh, and I believe I am going to get rid of the jump to mode 1 when you go out and back into FX Jogs Mode from Scratch Mode. Since we are simply using the modifier number as a condition for the FX modes, I believe we can now just go in and out of FX Jogs mode and when you get back in to FX Jogs Mode, you are exactly back to the mode you were in when you left. This should also make the mapping even more stable. We'll see. I was also looking into getting Deck C and D to work properly and the changes above might help, however, there is just one slight issue and it won't be with the mapping. I believe NI made a mistake with the switch between decks A and C and B and D. If you switch to Deck C for instance and go back to Deck A, the FX Jogs Mode is automatically switched off. So theoretically, the work flow to switch between Decks is to also always press the Load button again to get back into FX Jogs mode. I believe it should be, if you set it on before you switch decks, then Traktor should remember this setting and when you return to the deck, you're back into the setting you had to begin with. That would be more logical. Once I finish this Version, I'll hit up NI and ask for a change. I have a funny feeling TP 2.5 will make all this useless though. scamo |
Rey Holubar 19.02.2012 | I'm not completely sure, but I'm afraid you will probably have to upgrade to 2.1.2 for the mapping to work properly. What do you base your "extreme" CPU usage on? The display at the top of Traktor? If yes, I also saw a much higher CPU usage, once I upgraded, but it runs well anyway. I have a bit older Core i3 with Windows 7. scamo |
Terrence Karasick 19.02.2012 | Hi Scamo and everyone. Been reading these community s and these s4 mapping threads for ages but never really got into posting. Have to say im thrilled about this mapping and all the work you have done for it! I've been playing with standard mapping all the way but this was way too cool to miss. So, downloaded the mapping, imported it twice with big import button and gave it a test drive. Everything seemed to work the way it should be, only the jogs doesn't change fx amounts at all... Pressing and releasing jogs works as they should and changing modes works as well but turning jogs while pressed does absolutely nothing. Actually in mode 6 Filter92LFO is only parameter moving with jog wheel...strange. Other modes, no movement at all. Have tried restarting, reseting and re-importing but everytime same outcome. Im using traktor pro 2.0.3 because newer versions have way too extreme cpu usage for my comp. Should this work with 2.0.3? Any ideas? Thanks in advance! And keep up the good work! |
Rey Holubar 18.02.2012 | The attachment is working again! scamo |
Rey Holubar 17.02.2012 | @Mert - A restriction in this mapping is it doesn't work with Decks C/D as normal decks. @Mr530 - It looks like DJTT moved the community to a subdomain and this has caused a general issue with all attachments. I've reported it to the right people. scamo |
Malika Gise 16.02.2012 | I'm having trouble downloading the attachment? |
Monty Strauder 16.02.2012 | Hey Scamo, i played a lot with your mapping. One problem i got is if i am in the "Scamo Effect Mode" via the load button... and i switch to deck C/D or load another track. The modifier won't reset. I Mappad a Modifier direkt switch to 0 at the deck change buttons, the only believe what i have to do is to map a reset on Browsemode + Cue. My problem is sometimes in Scratch mode and the Effects switched on. Sorry for my fucking english (google translater is not the best ) |
Rey Holubar 16.02.2012 | Thanks thejib. Glad you like the mapping. I unfortunately also noticed the other day, if you switch through the effects really fast (and I mean really fast) you get a very quick "hesitation" in the sound output. I wouldn't call it clicking, but yes, there is the artifact. You can use the gain encoder well without the clicking happening though. So I don't believe it will be a big issue, especially if your computer has some power. I have an i3 with Windows 7 and like I said, it only happens, when I really switch through the effects fast. scamo |
Joshua Hertzog 15.02.2012 | scamo.. I haven't logged into djtt in a few months.. But I took the time this morning to find my password to login and say THANK YOU! This mapping is absolutely amazing. I was extremely disappointed with the DJTT mapping. I liked the idea of it, however it felt like they started it and then got distracted with other projects like the VCI-400 or something. The S4 community needs reliability, as a lot of us play out with our custom mappings. I've run into a few problems on deck 2, where I go to do an effect and nothing happens (still trying to pinpoint this). However it's nothing I can't fix with a quick reload. The reload option is the best feature hands down, because I know that no matter how bad I mess things up that I should be able to at least get back to normal. One of my major complaints with the DJTT mapping was the audible clicking noise when scrolling through fxs. I haven't noticed that with yours, and I really hope switching to the gain knobs doesn't cause that. I believe it's a known issue with traktor effects, and the easier it is to switch banks the more noticeable the artifact is. Once again, thank you for making and updating this mapping! edit: Had the problem on deck 2 again. The second effect didn't swoosh as hard, and I was unable to do the echo delay by hitting the dry/wet button. Nothing a reset didn't fix, but I just thought I'd pass it along for possible trouble shooting. |
Rey Holubar 15.02.2012 | That is a good point and something I'll do for the manual for 4.5. I also need to get a clean slate on my "mapping plan" too and this would be a good start. I also still need ideas for FX groupings 8-14. scamo |
Mozella Vay 15.02.2012 | Do you believe it would be possible to get a list of the effect groups mapped? (Like what the effects selected are for each group with the default amount & wet/dry settings as well as the encoder % rates?) Also what (if any) advanced effect is used with each? I'm making mappings for a totally different controller and don't have either an s2 or s4 to try on. Thought it would be great having a master list. For example: Group 1 Default Amount Wet/Dry: Relative Amount Wet/Dry: (%/%) Effect 1 Select: Default Amount: Relative Amount: (%/%) Effect 2 Select: Default Amount: Relative Amount: (%/%) Effect 3 Select: Default Amount: Relative Amount: (%/%) |
Rey Holubar 15.02.2012 | Just a quick update. I've now gotten the jump to modifier 3 and 4 to work in the mapping along with the indicator lights working. BUT, I also have found out (and is logical) that the effects modes are screwed up when you scroll back down through the modifiers. It worked great with the FX mode button, because the modifier always scrolled up with a press of the button and went back to 1 after 7. But now with the encoder, we can come from both directions. This in turn means, either the swap of the effects goupings has to happen with the touch of the jog, or you'll have to double up the commands for both directions and I am not sure that will work either. I'll have to try it out. In other words, before you had this possibility with scrolling through the modifiers. 123456712345671234567 so on and so forth. with the encoder, you can do this with the modifier. 123456765432101234543210123456765676543 so before, to set up the switch to mode 2 for example, you'd give the command the condition modifier1=1. Now you also need to map mode 2 with modifier1=3 to cover coming back down from where modifier1 was 3. I believe for usability purposes, it is good to be able to scroll through the modifier up and down with the gain encoder. However, it will be less intuitive, if you don't see the effects change on the screen. You do have the indicator lights though. Decisions, decisions...... Hope that makes sense too. scamo |
Shanti Zou 13.02.2012 | Damn, sorry guys. I read and read last evening hoping to find the answer myself. Appreciate the prompt responses. Great job on the map, thanks much for all the hard work! |
Rey Holubar 13.02.2012 | The echo freeze only works on some effects modes like in mode 2. Try pressing the Effects On/Off button (the one next to the dry/wet knob). That will turn the echo freeze on. Just remember to also turn it back off, before you switch to another mode, otherwise the freeze will be stuck on for other modes that use effect banks 2 or 4. scamo |
Rey Holubar 13.02.2012 | Hey Monty, Mert is right. The third effect is "static" or not even used in some effect modes. If the jog is working everywhere else, then you should be good to go. To everyone. Just a small update too. I was able to take a little time to work on 4.5 yesterday and I've gotten the C Deck Gain Controller + Shift to control the current effects on Deck A and I've figured out, well I believe it will be ok at this point, that going to "0" on modifier 1 or 2 won't be an issue like I thought it would. Either I'll just leave it blank or maybe we might even be able to use it for a 15th effect grouping. One thing that does happen on my computer though is if you use the gain encoder and switch through the effects too fast, I hear it effect the sound output slightly. It sort of makes it chopped up. I'll have to play with it some more, but it looks like I can't just turn the knob too fast. Next steps are getting the jump to modifier 3 working to add more groupings and to get deck B also on the D gain encoder. I'll also be releasing two versions for 4.5. One with the effect groupings we've come up with till now and one empty for experimentation and also personal customization. scamo |
Monty Strauder 12.02.2012 | Hey Monty0124! I believe scamo disabled the third effect sometimes. Its in the mapping, if u turn the Jogwheel, traktor has to set the Parameter of the Effect to value "XYZ". This cannot be disabled because the default mapping control the 3rd Effect in the Jogwheel Effect Mode. If u dont turn the Jogwheel and use the Knob, it works! Mert |
Shanti Zou 12.02.2012 | Hey guys, couldn't get this mapping to work correctly. I was running the default map until yesterday when I loaded the DJTT S4 map. I played with that a bit but it just wasn't doing it for me. I ran into a ton of issues getting back to default on the S4. Namely, I lost my Play buttons and the filter knobs didn't turn the filters on (this was in the re-loaded default map). I finally got back to what appeared to be an operational default mapping and then installed Scamo's mapping. Everything, with the exception of the effects, is working. Namely I have no control over the third effect slot in any of the modes. For example, in Ean's Beatmasher the job wheel does not activate or control the Reverb. As I said, I have no control of the third slot in any grouping. I've tried installing and uninstalling and using the in-map reset with no effect. Any ideas? |
Akilah Washnock 12.02.2012 | Thanks for that ,thats why i love these community s litte problem big headache ...solved. |
Rey Holubar 11.02.2012 | Try importing the Korg mapping over the Controller Manager and not over the big Import button. scamo |
Akilah Washnock 11.02.2012 | I am using scamos mapping which is ace i also wanted more control over the samples so created a very basic mapping for the samples using a korg nanokontrol the mapping works perfectly but when i install scamos mapping it must over ride my korg mapping. Is there any way i can use my s4 with the scamo mapping and ad the sample mapping allowing me to use the korg. At the moment its either the scamo mapping or the sample mapping but i want it all !! Any help wouuld be greatly appreciated as i started with hair and am down to a few folicles. |
Rey Holubar 10.02.2012 | Hi dmendoza626, A set loop won't hold in mode one, because that mode sets a "cue in", when you press the jog. I explain the reasoning here. http://www.djranking s.com/community /sho...9&postcount=33 scamo |
Richard Penkala 09.02.2012 | just wanted to tell scamo good job! love the mapping, just got to get use to playing it. only one small issue... when playing with the jog effects with something that in a loop, the loop gets deactivated... ? |
Monty Strauder 09.02.2012 | Oh no ... i want to do nothing with the crossfader :P ! But it sounds funny^^ I mean ... in the default Mapping if u press SHIFT + Deck unit Button, u can activate/deactivate the Crossfader for this deck... So u can for example do that the Crossfader have no effect on deck A or if u have the crossfader left there is no effect on deck A ... mh ... in the past i wanted (to use 4FX Mode) to map activate/deactivate the FX units for this decks, -> deck A - FX unit button 1 -> FX unit 1 on/off -> deck A - FX unit Button 2 -> FX unit 2 on/off -> deck A - FX unit button 1 + Shift -> FX unit3 on//off -> deck A - FX unit button 2 + Shift -> FX unit4 on//off i dont like the Default mapping in 4FX mode. because in my Workflow i want to use FX unit 1 &2 for Deck A and B, so maybe i can create a Mapping for this things... mh ... if i read my post, i believe this has nothing to do with your mapping... this would be only an add-on Mapping for me to have the best workflow sorry ^^ (mh i also believe about to make a shift option for the FX knobs so i can control FX units 3 & 4 with shift + FX knob YEAAAHHHH) A lot of work for me Mert p.s. i changed reflextion to consideration ... i hope now its a better english ^^ (omg how bad it is) |
Rey Holubar 09.02.2012 | Hey Mert. Sorry, but you lost me there with your reflexion. So you want to add some effects to the cross fader in scratch mode or do you just want to use the unused effect banks for some effects with the cross fader, but while in FX Jogs mode? Something like a cross-fading filter set up could be pretty neat though. scamo |
Monty Strauder 08.02.2012 | Hey guys... I've been believeing, whats about the FX Unit Buttons. Some of them have no functions in 4 FX mode. Example: Deck A Activiation FX unit 2 -> No effect, Shift + Deck A Activation FX unit 2 is default mapped to the Crossfader. Maybe we can map this to activate/deactivate FX unit 3. So if we dont use the Jogs mapping, we can use some FX there. It is only a consideration, but we can use this buttons, too and make some useful things for the workflow. Mert |
Jared Foye 08.02.2012 | Shit bro, and I had things to catch up on. There goes my weekend |
Marget Vasilko 07.02.2012 | Can't wait to see what comes of this. You guys are awesome! |
Rey Holubar 07.02.2012 | Naw, I'll bring out the mapping simply with the effect modes empty, so great people like Alinement can come up with their own groupings. I don't forsee it taking 3 weeks either. scamo |

Rey Holubar 08.02.2012 | Yeah, with the LEDs. I want to have the FX On/Off button show the second "layer" of effect modes. So FX Off = Modes 1-7 (as it has been) FX On = Modes 8-14 (the new modes) scamo |
Monty Strauder 08.02.2012 | no problem its me a honor to help you. I have another question, what about the LED feedback to show how effect is activated? nur you have just 3 LEDs, so u got only 8 options. Or u want to use the FX Panel Mode LED // Wet Dry LED?... hm and we have to search for great fx combos Everything is fine Good luck Scamo |
Rey Holubar 07.02.2012 | Hi Mert. Thanks. Looks like it is possible to get the gain encoder to work properly with your suggestion. I am going to leave the Deck C gain on the encoder and just have shift to change the effect modes. Looks like we are getting closer to getting this working and 14 effect grouping modes. Yes! scamo |
Monty Strauder 07.02.2012 | I created very fast a test TSI to show u what i mean... u can try it... it disable the gain encoder C... and i have the gain deck C on the knob Deck A (pressing shift)... if u try it please save ur old TSI before u load this... TEST TSI |
Rey Holubar 07.02.2012 | Thanks Mert. I'll have a look at that. But did you try to remap the Deck C gain to the Deck A gain encoder? I bet it won't work, because you'll have the same issue I have with using the encoder for the mode switching. As soon as you turn the knob, even with a shift selected, the original command for the knob is there and messes it all up. So, AFAIK, there is no way to remap the Deck C gain encoder to Deck A and have them both work properly. scamo |
