Kontrol X1 instant gratification 2 deck

Hi peeps,

Attached you'll find the templates to use in the controller editor to make the bottom 4x4 rows on a Kontrol to act as a midifighter.
This way, you can use the Instant Gratification mapping for Deck A and B on your X1.

You'll find 2 templates, since for some reason I had to lower all midi notes by 1 to make sure they come through correctly. If anybody knows the reason, could you please tell me, I have no idea why this happens.

Anyway, attached you'll find the 1-2, which according to the editor has the right notes assignments.
I have to use the 1-3 version, with all the midinotes lowered 1 value, to make sure the right notes are given to Traktor.

the basic knob page controls deck A, the shift knob page controls deck B.

Now I just need to figure out the magic of the instant gratification , it's right in front of me

I hope it saves some people some time to remap all the notes!

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: import the template
  • download the attached zip file which contains the following files:
    - Kontrol 1-2
    - Kontrol 1-3
Kontrol 1-2 should be the right mapping, but for some reason my X1's needed all notes to be lowered by one to give the right output.
  • Open your controller editor (the program parralel installed with the kontrol x1 drivers.
  • Remove the current template on the right and choose to import the Kontrol 1-2 template.
  • In Traktor pro, check if the midi notes are the right ones by adding a random (test)function in the controller mapping, press 'Learn' and press the midi buttons. You can check if the values correspond with the values as listed in the scheme which you'll find attached.
  • If the notes differ by 1, redo steps 2 and 3 and import the Kontrol 1-3 template.

Step 2: import the Instant Gratification mapping
  • Download the Instant Gratification mapping from the DJTT site.
  • Import the IG Mapping and remove the [c] and [d] sets.
  • Make sure the in and output on te [a] and [b] mappings are either set to "all ports" or your kontrol x1 port (probably named Kontrol 1-1 in your scheme).

Step 3: Set the effects right
If for some reason the results (selected effects) are not the same as the Instant Gratification mapping, check your order of effects. Set them exactly as screencapped in this post: http://www.djranking s.com/community /sho...cts#post250009

That's it! Happy mashing buttons!

I can appreciate that tbh.

That's how I do mine too (well at least the side by side part)

This mapping is so much fun it's not even funny.

Oh and one other thing I added the top right fx hold will also lower the decks volume by 30% or so meant for when you are dropping a new track.

Hey let me know how it goes. Import the midi fighter mapping and then set your input and output device for all 4 to Maschine (even if your using 2). Or if you are using 2 set the input and output port to None for decks C and D.

I feel kinda dirty for using this mapping on Maschine. Bought the video to show my appreciation of the hard work done on it. Might be getting a MF just for the heck of it

Here is the template I am using.

TinyURL Version:

This was based on the X1. Please note that I am using a S4 and there might be a difference in the midi notes (off by 1). This was mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread.

Yep, that's how I did mine. Dedicated 2 groups for Deck A and B.

Let me know if you need any info on mappings, I can get you screen shots, etc.

just hit "mappings" on top of the community and look at the vid of it. it's a nice effects mapping from Ean with some pretty special super-combos which add new effects on top if you press cerntain buttons at once or in order.

Sure thing!

Ill post the Controller Manager settings that you will need to import so that your basic and shift layer for the effects section work properly, and the .tsi file that I use for the MIDI layer.

As a side note on the mapping I am about to upload:

The effects section is exactly as I described, and ONLY the "chained" controls are mapps, because the FX Units you have control over (FX 1 and FX 2) are set as "chained" in the IG MidiFighter mapping.

The 4 "FX Bank Activate" buttons on the Kontrol are mapped like this:

On the basic layer they are FX bank active buttons for Deck A, banks 1,2,3,4 from left to right.

On the Shift layer they are FX bank activate buttons for Deck B, banks 1,2,3,4 from left to right.

This helps when you go crazy on spamming buttons and certain effects decide not to turn off, you can easily see (because they have LED feedback) and instantly disable them with a quick button press on the X1.

The "loop" encoders do EXACTLY what they do in the stock mapping.

The "browser" encoder do mostly what they do in the stack mapping:

In basic layer, they move up and down through the tracks in the current directory you are working, and pressing it loads the track into the respective deck.

In the shift layer they move up and down through the folder tree, the press expands/collapses the folders.

^win

And the top effects section acts as I already described.

So with ought further adue:

Internal Kombo Breaker is the controller manager template you need to import, it is based on the the "midifighter 1-3" template from the original download in this thread, so if you are using the "1-2" controller manager template then you might need to alter the template.

MIDI Effects is the .tsi that contains the mappings for the rest of the MIDI section on the X1.

ENJOY!

In the stock mapping for the X1, on the shift layer the buttons are for effect selection, but the knobs arnt bound to anything, that is what I was referring too

So I just have both MIDI layer (basic and shift) sending the EXACT same MIDI notes, so I only have to map out one layer of effect controls for the top 8 buttons and knobs, and they work exactly the same for both "midifighter" decks.

Thanks! I watched the video again. The first button is hold and it looks like other 3 are free to be assigned

Awesome stuff this!
Yes! I'm having a lot of fun mapping shit out.
I am not going to be using the buttons for changing the effects that are loaded into the banks anyway, and the knobs don't do anything in the shift layer anyway.

I find this to be rather cool, as it allows you to modulate the combo's with the faders on the top of the controller, unlocking EVEN MORE effects awesomeness.

I'm seriously loving this.
I'm still working my way up towards that but like the sound of it.

The tops 4 buttons work as a "hold" function, I suggest you watch the Ean Golden vid on the IG mapping.

Basically, while you are holding down ANY effect combo, press the top button that corresponds to the deck you are currently in, and it will hold the effects as you currently have them, i.e. you can let go of the controller. The "hold" buttons LED will illuminate to signal it is holding. Press the button again to release the hold.

Awesome stuff this!

I mapped the top of the X1's MIDI layer back to almost exactly as it is mapped on the Native Instruments layer. I went back into the controller editor, and changed ALL the effects controller o have exactly the same notes for basic, and shift, so when I hit shift to toggle the deck focus, all of the effect modulation controls are exactly the same as deck A. I am not going to be using the buttons for changing the effects that are loaded into the banks anyway, and the knobs don't do anything in the shift layer anyway.

**EDIT**

I'm pretty sure I had to add some output commands to get LED feedback to the top 2 hold buttons.... but I forget now, lol.

Thanks for this! I managed to pick up a used X1 over the weekend and just got this working. It's lots of fun playing with all of the effects.

So I have a few questions. Since I deleted the C & D banks what do the top 4 buttons do? Should they be doing something?

And I'm going to try and build off this too since none of the other knobs and buttons are doing anything!

That last thing is what worries me. The new fx usually get added at the bottom of the list so it shouldn't interfere.

I hope that helps.

Seems that it requires a bit more 'Manual' then I thought. I'll update the starter post with a step by step walkthrough tomorrow.

@Ashigari: that could work i suppose, but remember to remove all the buttons in the IG mapping that turns them on too. And it might collide with the whole brains behind the IG mapping.

Since I'm only using 2 decks, I've taken the liberty of use the two topright buttons and use them to turn off all the possibly active effect units turned on to deck A and/or B. for some reason the IG mapping leaves them on in certain combinations which is cool, but not very wanted when you want to use the effects units for other purposes too.

@exokinetic, thank you for the kind words, but to be fair, there's hardly any brains behind it. It merely enables someone to use the X1 for the splendid IG mapping, which really is the brains behind this. I just noticed there were some templates for the launchpad and such, but nobody took the short time to post it for the X1.

amazing, thanks a lot! it didnt work at first but changing the order of effects did the trick

edit: for the 4 deck mode, couldn't you just map the top row to assign all 4 effects banks to one deck and remove the assign efx to deck from the buttons? so you press the first button in the top row and all 4 efx banks are active on A, then play with the buttons. press 2nd button for deck B etc

Okay I just realized that the link you posted earlier was to photojojo's pic of the proper order.

Lol...

And, I FUCKING LOVE YOU OMG!

Just when I though my ridiculously custom mapped X1 was maxed out, you go and spring something like THIS on me...

And COMPLETELY change the way I use effects.

I realize it would be kind of a pain....

But can someone please list the "proper" order that the effects need to be in my list in traktor so that the correct effects are selected by the IG mapping?
