That is pretty sick. I do like the layout of Itch though, looks pretty straight forward if you are just doing basic stuff and don't need the bells and whistles of traktor.

The VCI-300 is out in Japan, and perhaps somewhere else. Anyone found any reviews of it so far? I've only seen previews.

Some problems with it already, or maybe this guy is just unlucky.

Hi there everyone,
I just bought my vci-300/ITCH set and the problem is I can't get it run. It seems to be a vci-300 / ITCH communication thing:
After switching the vci-300 to ON, I keep getting the "hardware disconnected" message. The PC (Win XP service pack 3) apparently recognizes the vci-300, I get two "usb audio device" icons at the sound devices control panel (I tried to update the drivers but there's no new stuff to update to); I can listen to mp3s through the vci-300 (via headphones) Is the vci-300
supposed to show up in the "removable hardware" folder just like an external HD or DVD? Mine is not.
Anyway, thanks to anyone who can help me.

another thing i noticed is when recording mixes using traktor the sound quality is not as good as if i use wavelab to record it. i use the external mixer instead of traktors internal and it sounds way better, so im glad i went the way i did plus i can add other devices to the mixer so im not limited to what the vci300 has to offer.

guess it depends on what u wanna do, i would of liked a smaller set up, easy to move around with but thats the only down fall of my set up.

yup got the zero 4 and denon hs5500, loving it but hope to have the platter spinning with traktor. that would make it much more sweeter!!!

have to say once u use traktor u get spoiled with the wave visuals and easy of finding a song, so im loving the denon in midi mode with traktor

the denon on its own is nice but gonna use it as back up incase the computer crashes. takes about 15 seconds to loas from midi to usb device but better then 1 minute boot up time for the lappy

Hey Groovemixer,

Did you ever get your Korg/Denon setup going for traktor control. If so, how do you like it

Then I saw the VCI-300 and loved it but again I'd like to have an audio mixer so the 300 would not be the best for me.

Now I'm looking at the Korg Zero 4, I've ordered one and hope it's good, been reading both good and bad about it but all gear has it's good and bad. I can use this mixer for audio, TT, midi, soundcard and it has lots of effects. But if I stick with the Korg I'll need a deck controler for Traktor. That's where the 5500 comes in. I can fit one 5500 and mixer in a fairly small coffin side by side (prob have to get on made or make one myself.) I believe this would be a very nice setup. The Denon controling traktor decks and the korg controling the traktor mixer or just use the korg for external mixer. The Denon will also act as a back up if my lappy crashes or the laptop as a back up if the denon crashes!! LOL!!

I was gonna go for the denon 2500 but its a 19" rack mount size so it wont go well with the korg and also the 2500 has a split screen and is a pain to search for music due to this. The 5500 has a split screen also but it can switch to one between decks a and b, which gives you double the viewing size.

I've been waiting for an all in one midi controller/mixer for years and looks like more new stuff is coming but I've gotta get some toys to practice with or I'll always be waiting for the next newest thing and never actually dj!!!

Hey DaTomBomb, I've just read too many mixed user reviews about the sound quality of the VCM-100 to make a purchase; clicks, pops, etc, and mostly on mac OS 10.5 platform, which is what I use. So, to me, that's kind of a red flag not to invest in that product, at least until I hear that the software/hardware/OS platform issues are resolved.

Not for nothing but, how great can the maya 44 card really be at ~$100? even if you read the marketing language of ad's for that card, it's aimed at the budget/beginner crowd that can't afford pro audio gear ...now that say's something, and its not that it can't get the basic job done, i'm sure it can, but it's going to have short comings, which is something I don't want to deal with in a live DJ setting or even when trying to record stuff at home.

some sources:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec0...otrackmaya.htm

http://www.djranking s.com/community /community display.php?f=7.

so being that Vestax used the Maya 44 in the VCM-100, I was wondering if they are going to use it in the VCI-300 as well... if they do, i believe I'd rather just get a VCI-100 with a less problematic sound card.

VCI-300 looks like a good deal, except for the lack of effects of course, but does anyone have any insight into the quality of the integrated sound card? I'm hoping it's not the same card they put in the VCM-100 which I heard was not that good...

alright, so a Kaoss Pad Mini can be interesting to use with a VCI 300

but I've got another question: deck effects
correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe a Kaoss Pad Mini can put an effect on different decks (but only on the two together, the master)

how is it possible, or which effectbox is capable to produce effects on different decks? (for instance, a flanger only on the left deck)
Steeve Lauritano

For sure you could use a Kaoss Pad with a 300 - matter of fact, you can use a Kaoss Pad with ANY music source, even an iPod. Basically, it has a set of RCAs for input, and one output as well. So the most basic case would be to take your master out of your 300, and route it through your Kaoss Pad to your speakers.

If you want to use the Kaoss Pad on individual decks with a 300, it depends on whether or not the 300 will have independent outputs for each deck (I wouldn't know off the top of my head).

EDIT: And if the 300 doesn't have outs for each deck, you could still make it work with a new soundcard or something hahaha.

it's a good thing that the VCI 300 is easy to use for mixing, but some effects would be very welcome

maybe something like the Korg Kaoss Pad Mini would be nice, but will it work on the VCI 300 with Itch?

after reading the update on the 300, im very glad to have not waited and bought my denon 5500 and zero 4 mixer. If I didn't get those my second choice would of been the vci-100.

its taking 4ever for vestax to release new products, we dont even have the vcm-100 out yet (i ordered one in jan). I hate it when a company pre-releases a prototype and we gotta wait a year b4 we can buy it!!!!

what sucks with the 300 is its only for itch and if u wana use it for other software you gotta WAIT some more!!! frig im getting too old for this!!! ive been waiting and using a keyboard for mixing for years!!!

im happy with what i have and at least im mixing instead of waiting!!!!

I'd go with the VCI-100 *easily* based on price alone. I'm also sorta shocked that hardly anyone has been talking about the 300's real advantage (IMO) - the 14-bit MIDI. Seriously, one of the biggest things holding me back is how poor the resolution is on any fader in regular MIDI. I mean usually it's all good, but when you're trying to beatmatch a track at 124.2 BPM, and your fader steps from 124.1 to 124.3 (yes, at 8%), you start to question your $400 investment.

Hopefully the 300 spurs a MIDI revolution, in the sense that we upgrade to something a little less archaic MIDI works, but it certainly has its limitations. Get to work, hackers!

I believe the better choice would be the VCI-100, since the VCI-300 is pretty much tailored for use with Serato ITCH.

The reason they made ITCH was to remove everything that could be handled on the hardware unit from ITCH and just keep the basic most vital stuff. Like why have loop buttons in a software (traktor) when they're already on the hardware. Serato's idea was to make djs look more at the hardware and less at the software. ITCH carries everything vital that you need, the rest is gone

But then again Traktor has a lot of effects so of course there are more buttons, ITCH carries no such features.

Thats the real purpose of ITCH, so I've been told atleast.

Obviously I know absolutely nothing about the functionality of Serato's ITCH software...but to me the G.U.I. looks terrible.

It looks like the graphical lead on the project may have liked his glowing black Windows 98 theme a bit to much.
