Less than a week (VMS4). What to do?
Posted on: 23.04.2010 by Shay Wyche
D'oh!

I've mis-read the delivery due date, it's a month to go.

I'm seriously considering selling my EKS Otus to fund buying an American Audio VMS4. It's around a week until they hit the stores in the UK - link - I believe I really want one of these, as it has a great layout, it will do everything I need it to do and it's relatively cheap.

My days of gigging are more or less over (I'm 37 years old now and haven't played out for 6 years), this seems too good to be true for me. Has anyone actually got there hands on one yet?

I was going to just order one of these blind, but I guess I'll wait for a review. Rubber buttons don't really bother me, I'll just get a midi fighter to solve that. Still concerned with the jog quality though, ah what to do

Great...brilliant....nothing like soft rubber buttons to create the MOST amount of latency ever.

God are we living in 1993....soft rubber buttons....really?

Would a piano ever be made with rubber keys....ummm no because ITS BUILT IN LATENCY !!!

Does anyone even like rubber buttons?

If so, why exactly?

American Audio always comes so close, then they choose some wacked out short cut that deems the product a joke.

This Rubber Button situation is the end of me taking this unit seriously....followed by the poor soundcard and the questionable Jogs.

Bye Bye AA

There better be a reason for pushing this back again....I'm getting really antsy

Anyone got any cool mapping plans for the touch areas? I like flukes idea of filters for the linear strips, maybe do a mod to make the mouse area control effect parameters?

Yeah, it was the vids from NativeGirl(Fresh Fluke) that made me like this controller more and more! She showed that she had done some extensive mapping with the VMS, and was going to share them. Haven't seen it though.

first i was excited about the vms but when i layed my hands on it at the messe my view got more down-to-earth. yes it has a ton of controls but it's reeeeaallly heavy, the jog make it indeed look like a toy. overall i seriously was believeing of buying one before the messe, but with the size and toyish look, along with two mic ins, which i dont need, i wont buy one. the analog mixer with this many midi controls is sweet though..

at the messe it was set up with trakor (funnily engough in the light section) and only cans, so i cannot say anything about its soundcard..

Those jogs are the only thing that makes it look like a toy....I wish they would have come up with a cooler concept. Seems like a nice unit otherwise...not sure of the brand though. Anyone any products from them...I always thought of them as a similar brand to Gemini?

Yeah....i am big on the FEEL of a product.

If its feel cheap....plastic....or unrobust....i will skip purely for that alone.

As Zak says....its all midi.

Midi is Midi, as far as I'm concerned. The true test is going to be the feel. Then again, I would keep using my current soundcard, so having one in the unit is like wasted $$ for me...

LOLZ!

You sure? I mean, the VCM-600 did not get my approval in the past.
(Though the MIDIfighter, MPD24 and ofcourse BCR got my approval.)

I want to test the analog part, 'cause nowadays the soundcards are good enough nowadays.
(And I also have my Audio4DJ lying around)

But for what the hype is worth, I believe it might be a nice alternative.

i'm not sure if I would really use 4 decks for psytrance...
I will try with 2 korg nano kontrol and my oxygen 8 v2...
If I realise that 2 decks is enough for me I will stick with the complete Stanton SCS.3 System

+1 on that!

We could have more touch strips to use like scs.3m
If we have more 2 strips i would replace de volume control to them

Fingers crossed however, 'cause it's a third the price of a DX!

When can we expect a full DJ TT review as I'm sure this will help in peoples decisions?
