no rocket science, just made a big tank out of two small tanks. they're connected internally (4 small screws, 2 fat ones) and externally (bottom steel plate), seamless and sturdy as hell. at the moment each unit runs off a separate power supply and they're connected via a passive usb hub (no better solution for that I guess), but it works - and I'm currently digging through the awesome possibilities within maxforlive and looks like I'll be getting a one-off faceplate from djs face

if i hard map a fader for instance on the 20, the respective fader on the 40 transmits the same message...and does the same thing..

it looks more badass this way, almost symmetrical - there's never too much distance between the clip matrix and the encoders (which is important when you work fast). also, I believe having a set of scene launch buttons in the middle would probably get hella confusing in mid-performance. but the choice is yours - it's a mod. there are no rules!

Damn, I just re-read this thread.
Now I want to built one myself, too. I just have like, five controllers I want to build first
I need more money, and more time, and another job.

One question though, wouldn't putting the 20 on the left side of the 40 make more sense? Give you a bigger clip-view.

Took my APC40 apart the other day to clean my faders.

Was kinda surprised that they are attached to the mobo.

Fuck load of screws!!

BUT.....I now know what I need to do in order to do this mod.

Eyeing our local gumtree site for the APC20....

No stress, it's just a piece (great) of gear, users will survive. Wish him speedy recovery!

update: just talked to Carlos (the guy who runs delamar) - apparently he's been sick in bed for the last couple of days. can't really blame him with all the content he had to work on during NAMM. I'm told the APC80 video is next, so this time I'm pretty confident we can expect it next week - which would go really well with the relaunch of my website

again, apologies for the delay!

sounds good

10.01.2011
relax, they're almost done. I'm not in the position to push delamar - and my video won't make much sense without its delamar counterpart.

we've talked about that. possible, but expensive (I'm talking about as much as an APC40 itself and that's just stupid) unless many people want one. also, the faceplate won't fit perfectly unless you made absolutely no mistake assembling the unit. but even that's hard to predict - remember that "dj's face" don't have an APC80 themselves so they can't make absolutely sure it's gonna fit. one millimiter can make a difference.

suggestion: it's already expensive and a faceplate is not gonna make it work better. drop it, at least for now.

Almost done with mine! An xacto knife worked for me, took some time but I was able to be really precise. Now i'm looking to skin it, although if dj face could make a custom plate that would be optimal.

Just took my APC40 apart, took a little while, but yea I see what you mean about the excess plastic...that certainly caught me off guard. Any immediate solutions?

a reference is no problem of course, didn,t even believe about that. i'll add some reference to the community and the de-website!

31.12.2010
@timmio: nice work. a little reference on youtube would be nice though...

the APC80 build vid is still being worked on by the folks at delamar (it's that annoying time of year, you know). for now I can tell you that there will be two videos - the one I did with delamar will cover the hardware part, the one I'm working on myself will give an introduction to the software part. we're expecting to launch both videos simultaneously in the first week of january.

I don't know what happened, but I didn't use strange codes, just added youtube (added it to the bottom now, looks ok now )

Can't wait to see that movie. I unscrewed my APC20 to check out how it could fit to the APC40, seems doable. But I noticed that I have to cut off some plastic to make it fit neatly (like you already said 'it cannot be done without losing guarantee and making modifications').

I'm now changing my APC40 TSI (as stated in my sig) into a more APC80 version. Meaning that I'll still mainly use 2 decks, but add 2 'sample' decks to have an ultimate freedom on sampling within songs! It will be like having the Native Instruments S4 Traktor Controller , while still using Traktor Pro . I tested a first test-tsi and damn I can't wait to see those lights blinking in the new TSI's..

(meanwhile also waiting for your vid to get convinced of continue the modification of my APC's )

For now I just 'use' my APC's as they are one

It worked for me. Added it to cart, proceeded to check out and 150 was deducted from the total.

For whatever reason the screen shot didn't work... so here's the link that shows the discount
