I made that disc so I could get on with the internal mechanism

The final disc will be printed on clear acetate sheet. I will be testing different resolutions once it arrives.

I'm planning on running the router around the platter one more time with a chamfer or round over bit to expose the outer edge which will be used for pitch bending

Wait until you see what I'm going to use for the spinning mechanism. You will either laugh your head off or say mmmm Classic that's a good idea.

But trust me it will work

Here's a pic of the encoder disc I've just made using the printer, plain paper and a Touch of permanent marker to boost.

niccee thats the same thing in the ION Discover DJ- which has some pretty fricken amazing wheels bro

Diameter is 6 inches, thickness is 1/2 aluminum. radius for the dip on the edge was 1/8th inch also the edgest are beveled champhered at 36 degrees. It cost me like 25 dollars for matierals. then i did the machine work myself in shop class.

I had to custom cut these on a lathe

Quick update.

Here are a few images of my test jog wheels. I made a jig that can cut circles at various sizes. This one is 7 1/2 ".

The small hole on the underside of the platter is so I can make them touch sensitive

I stuck 1mm thick aluminium sheet to some 4mm MDF. Here is a shot of the top side.

To make the jog wheel look thicker I cut another ring of MDF.

Next up was to join the two together

More to come soon.

When I first started to wire things up on this project I used cat 5 cable that a friend had given me for free ( 300m ) The cable was the single core type.

I soon realised that when bunched together these wires were too stiff and decided to stop and order something more suitable

Also the knobs that I ordered for the filters are a bit bigger than I expected

I might sink them into the faceplate?

Last image for today.

Determining the overall slot size to eliminate dead space on either side of the crossfader.

No I'm right handed so that's a good point you just made but like I said before it was a practice session so it doesn

can you show us some pictures of the tools you use to cut the plastic and wood? particularly the router/drill you use and the router bits. Maybe a video of you cutting some of the holes? Don't believe anyone's done a build log like that yet...
any luck with some photos? :P

don't be shy with the videos... doesn't need any talking over the top... just something showing how you cut the holes and what tools you use

Wow . . . You're a boss! One day I will attempt something this ambitious (by my standards) and hope to have all my fingers remaining after completion.

In all seriousness, your midi controller would turn heads at an auto show. All the best with the final build.

I've got the exact opposite problem with work that you have at the moment - and I know I shouldn't complain - but I can't get a minute to scratch my arse just now. It means my projects are on hold until I can find a bit of time.

I hope you find the right kind of balance between work and play, cos I certainly can't. The only joy I'm having just now is catching up on the Forums at evening and seeing my daughter for a few minutes when I get home.

it was a very very sad day when i had to sell my 1200's a few years back, had no choice... sold off all my studio/recording gear but selling the decks was the worst bit.
